Chapter 11 The Switch:
Marcy was outside sitting on a hill as she looked at the floating castle in the distance. Five days had passed since the calamity temple and now they only had three days until the invasion.
"Having someone's blood on your hands isn't something a 16 year old should worry about"
She gritted her teeth.
"Then why are you trusting me to deliver the final blow to Andrias?" she mumbled to herself.
She shook her head and stood up. Marcy walked back to the base where everyone was gathered in the meeting room. She stood beside Darcy as she faced the front and Sasha walked onto the stage.
"Okay, everyone! Listen up! As you know, Andrias is planning to invade in 3 days but we're going to try and get the drop on him but only a few of us are able to get in and Beatrix, you two will take on Andrias's robot army but be careful. These aren't the same robots we've been fighting a few years ago, they're more stronger and they're probably programmed to kill on sight so tread carefully. While that's happening, Grime and I will take Marcy, Darcy, Anne and the Plantars to the castle, to get the box and stop Andrias. Marcy, Darcy, since you two have been in the castle longer than any of us, I need you guys to look for entrances we can use to sneak in," Sasha said, turning to the twins.
The twins nodded.
"You can count on us," Darcy said.
Sasha nodded.
"And one last thin-"
"COMMANDER!" a voice shouted, cutting Sasha off.
Everyone turned around as Toadie ran into the room. Sasha jumped off the stage.
"Toadie, what's wrong?" she asked as the small frog stopped in front of her.
"It's a message from Andrias, he only wants you guys to look at it," Toadie said, handing a metal object to Marcy.
Sasha's eyes darkened.
"Meeting dismissed," she said.
Everyone cleared out of the room as Marcy placed the object on the table and pressed the button. A hologram of Andrias popped out of the box.
"Greetings, girls! It's been a while, don't ya think? Anyway, I'm here to negotiate something…a trade. Now listen, I'm only going to say this once. Hand over the core and I might call off the invasion, if you don't…you can say goodbye to both of your worlds. Tick Tock girls, " Andrias said.
The hologram turned off. Everyone stood there in silence before Sprig spoke up.
"W-what are we going to do?" he asked.
Darcy clenched their fists.
"We'll give him what he wants," he said.
Everyone turned to them surprised, especially Marcy.
"Are you crazy?! If you go to Andrias, there's no doubt he'll try and kill you!" she said.
Darcy looked at her.
"I'm aware…but if we want to keep both Amphibia and Earth safe we're going to have to risk it," Darcy said.
"Darcy, you of all people know that when Andrias tries to make a deal with someone, it ends with that person getting back stabbed!" Marcy growled.
Darcy's tail twitched in irritation.
"Do you want to save Earth and Amphibia or not?!" they said.
"Of course I do but that doesn't mean you go on a suicide mission!" Marcy shot back.
Darcy's eyes turned a darker orange color.
"I've already died once, I'm perfectly fine with dying a second time!" they shouted.
Corbin, who was sleeping in Olivia's arms, began to cry at the shouting. Darcy took a breath before calming down albeit still irritated.
"I'm doing this so drop it," he said.
He moved past Marcy, bumping shoulders with her. Anne looked at Marcy with a concerned look.
"Marcy," she began.
The black haired girl walked out of the room, slamming the door behind her. Sprig rubbed her neck.
"Should we..?" he asked.
Yunnan shook her head.
"It's best to let the twins cool down. This is hard on both of them, especially Marcy," she said.
Sasha nodded.
"Right. They can figure this out themselves. For now, let's just get ready," she said.
The others nodded.
With Marcy:
Marcy walked to the Flours' family bakery. She saw Maddie mixing a cauldron.
"Maddie," she called.
The younger girl looked at her.
"Hey, Marcy," she said.
Maddie frowned when she noticed that Marcy had an upset look on her face.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
Marcy shook her head.
"No time to explain. How fast do you think you can make a shapeshifting potion?" she asked.
Maddie blinked.
"Two minutes, give or take," she said.
Marcy nodded as she grabbed the ingredients and started mixing them. Maddie looked at her friend.
"Wait, Marcy, why do you need a shapeshifting potion?" she asked.
Marcy didn't look at her as she kept focused on her task.
"Darcy's planning to put himself in harm's way and I'm not letting him do that so I'm taking their place," she answered.
Maddie's eyes widened.
"What?! Marcy, that's dangerous!" she said.
Marcy turned to her.
"Unless you have a better way of keeping everyone from getting killed, I'd love to hear it!" she said.
Maddie didn't say anything. Marcy scoffed and went back to work. After a while, Marcy had finished the potion.
"Marcy," Maddie said.
The older girl turned to her.
"I don't support this, I really don't but please try and make it back," Maddie said.
Marcy smiled and bent down to her level.
"I'll try," she said.
Maddie threw her arms around her neck, hugging her tightly. Marcy hugged her back. The sound of crashing could be heard and they broke the hug.
"That's my cue," Marcy said.
She drank the potion. Maddie watched as Marcy's eyes changed from pale green to dark orange.
"Okay, so if one person drinks the potion, the person they transformed into transforms into them, right?" she asked.
Maddie nodded.
"Just try not to talk and make sure no one hugs you," she said.
Marcy nodded and ran out to help the others. She saw the others fighting the robots. She ran to join the fight. Marcy loaded her bow and fired multiple arrows at them. Unbeknownst to her, a frobot snuck up behind her.
"Darcy watch out!" Sasha shouted.
"Darcy" turned just in time to get caught in an orb. The frobot flew into the sky, bringing "Darcy" with it. Everyone stood there in shock before Anne ran to the stables.
"Anne!" Sasha shouted.
The others ran after her. Anne was loading some stuff on Joe's saddle.
"You're going after Darcy, aren't you?" a voice asked.
They all turned to see Yunnan and Olivia. Sasha nodded.
"No one gets left behind," she said, the others agreeing.
Olivia nodded as she walked towards "Marcy".
"Bring them back and be careful," she said before hugging her.
A puff of smoke went out through the room, leaving Darcy in Marcy's spot. Everyone gasped.
"Wait what?" Sasha asked.
Anne looked at Darcy.
"What's going on?" she asked.
Darcy looked at her with a sad look.
"I'm sorry…I didn't even know what was going on until..she was gone," they said.
"She wanted to protect you," a voice said.
Everyone turned to see Maddie standing at the door with a guilty look on her face.
"And everyone else," she finished.
"Wait, so if Darcy's here…does that mean?" Polly asked.
Sasha looked at the sky.
"Marcy's getting taken to Andrias," she said.
With Marcy:
Marcy was sitting in the force field as she turned back to normal. She gained a determined look as they approached the castle.
'I'm sorry guys but I'm ending this now,' she thought to herself.
