He had been totally serious. Sapphire was now sitting in a booth with Silco after he had tucked Jinx in for that night. The club was quite a bit more tame tonight, music was still playing, but it wasn't too loud. Sapphire sipped the watermelon apple ale that Silco had ordered for her alongside his own scotch. So far neither of them had really spoken, but Sapphire realized his promise to Jinx was true when he spoke next. "Who's turn is it?"
"Um. It's mine. Sorry. I'm not really sure what to ask…" Sapphire admitted, taking another sip of her drink. "Ummm, Jinx said you hate roses. Are there any flowers you do like?" She asked, using Jinx's method of basic questions to her advantage.
"I do dislike roses, she isn't wrong to say that. But their scent is still quite nice. I don't think I could say I like any flower when I have little experience with them." He was honest, but still mysterious in his response. Now as he tried to think of a question, Sapphire could see his brow furrow as he thought. He tapped one of his fingers on the table before speaking again, "How old are you?"
"I'm twenty." Sapphire answered, figuring it was kind of obvious. She looked her age, or at least she thought so. "Same for you then, how old are you?" Honestly, this was kinda fun. She was probably the only person ever to have played 20 questions with Silco.
"How creative." He remarked, rolling his eyes at her question. He pulled a cigar out of his pocket, sliced it, and lit it before even answering. "I'm thirty-seven. What is your favorite animal?" He asked, taking a drag of his cigar before slowly blowing it back out.
Sapphire had to bite her tongue from immediately calling him an old man. She swore, one day she would do it, even if it killed her. "I like any type of feline, but cats are my favorite." She took a sip of her drink again, not noticing that Silco winced slightly as he remembered what had become of Singed's cat. "Is scotch your favorite alcohol drink?" Sapphire propped her elbows on the table and rested her chin on her hands as she looked at him.
"Yes." He answered simply. He never elaborated on his answers like Jinx did. "Would you like to celebrate Jinx's birthday with her?" His question stunned her.
"Uh… N-no, as much as I enjoy spending time with Jinx. I wouldn't want to intrude on her special day to spend with you. She seemed really excited about it." Sapphire was still flustered as she answered him.
"Hmm, well that's disappointing." He took another drag on his cigar. "She really wanted you to join us." He hummed, blowing the smoke out into the air.
"I-I mean… I-if it wouldn't be a bother to you, I could tag along." Sapphire spoke slowly, feeling her embarrassment ebb away finally.
"Stop stuttering. It is very annoying." He frowned at her, "You can come with us. It would make her happy, and that is what I want." Sapphire flinched and swallowed nervously, taking a bigger swig of her ale.
"I'm sorry. Um, what is your favorite type of music?" She asked, hoping to steer the conversation away from the awkward tone it was currently in.
"I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of the music that usually gets played here, but the patrons like it. If I had to choose a favorite, I'd have to say classical." He responded, being more detailed with his answers after he'd snarked at her. Sapphire smiled softly at hearing that. He did seem like the kind of man to listen to that type of music to relax. He raised an eyebrow at her smile, taking another puff of his cigar before clearing his throat to ask another question. "Do you have any other hobbies besides making jewelry?"
She pursed her lips, thinking. "I wouldn't really call it a hobby, but sometimes I sing when I'm working on pieces."
"Oh?" His head tilted ever so slightly. "Are you any good?" He seemed genuinely interested in her answers now.
"Um… I don't think so. I was always told I was bad at it, so I don't sing around people anymore." She answered, seeming dejected before she downed the rest of her drink. Silco raised his hand only slightly and Theiram appeared, taking her empty glass and replacing it with a new one. She giggled softly before looking back at Silco, "Are you trying to get me drunk, Silco?"
He smirked lightly, "Well, they do say that people are more honest when they drink." He simply replied.
"Hmm, so you think I'm being dishonest?" She tilted her head at him now, giving him a questioning look and he chuckled. It felt as though his chuckle had gone straight through her body, making her feel warm all over. She chose to blame it on the alcohol.
"No, of course not. You've been very honest whenever we spoke. However, alcohol will also help you sleep." He smirked at her. "And Jinx snores." Sapphire started giggling again, before realizing.
"Oh great, so it's like you're drugging me to sleep." She said sarcastically and Silco nodded.
"Now you're catching on." He smiled to himself, "It's your turn." He leaned back in the booth, letting his head rest back against it.
"Nope, It's your turn." She retorted. "I asked if you were trying to make me drunk." His head snapped up from its resting position.
"That counts?" He asked in surprise and she giggled again.
"Yes, and you're not very good at 20 questions." She smiled, enjoying that she could throw Jinx's remark back at Jinx's father. He rolled his eyes again as he took another puff of his cigar. "Are you a night owl or an early bird?"
"...I guess I would be both. I don't get to bed until very late because of work, but I also have to wake up early because of work." He sighed and rested his head back against the booth, again. Hoping to relax a tiny bit. She could tell he was thinking of another question so she just sipped her ale while she waited. "Why don't you wear more jewelry? You make so much of it, yet you only wear those earrings, and that ring."
"Oh… Well, I like jewelry and all. But I don't like to just cover myself with them. I would feel like a piltie then." She answered, looking down at the ring. "And the ring isn't something I made, it was my mothers… Honestly, I don't even know why I'm wearing the damn thing." She frowned and pulled the ring off, dropping it onto the table. When she looked back up from the table he was looking at her and frowning. She could tell he was wondering what had caused her to react that way, but she wasn't interested in telling the story again. "Besides, Jinx, do you have any other family?"
"No, it is just myself and Jinx." He stabbed his cigar into the ashtray on the table. He was still thinking about that ring. He already knew she lived alone from his lackey's research, so there was no point in asking about that. "Do you have a lover?" His next question surprised her, causing her to choke on her drink and start coughing. He smirked when he noticed her cheeks had turned a vibrant red. She was far too easy to tease.
She cleared her throat before giving him a dirty look while he smirked as if he was innocent. "No. There's no one." She stated. "I don't think I could trust anyone that much." He nodded as he listened.
"That's understandable, betrayal is such a brutal act and yet it is far too common." Silco finished his scotch. "Alright, I think I've asked enough questions. It's late and we both need some sleep." Silco stood up from the booth. "Jinx will wake up fairly early, so I hope you do sleep well tonight." Sapphire stood up from the booth as well, downing her ale, before heading towards the stairs down to Jinx's room. "Sapphire." She stopped when he said her name. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight." Sapphire replied automatically. Her feet started moving on her own again as she headed downstairs. Her cheeks were burning all over again. She didn't know if she could still blame it on the liquor. …Did she like Silco?
