The compound was strangely empty despite it now being the base for both SHIELD training and home for the remaining Avengers. Vision had been helping Tony and Rhodey with the Accords, but in his spare time had also been developing his knowledge of human behaviour, even managing to use the mind stone to camouflage himself with a human colour instead of his natural red body. But he was missing spending time with Wanda. Now in what they were calling a trial relationship, he was thinking of things they could do whilst she was still on the run from Ross along with the rest of Steve's team, but also how he could make her life perfect with him whilst waiting to be caught. He walked through the compound to the offices and knocked on Pepper's door, he heard her call him to enter from inside and he smiled as she stood up.
"Vision, what brings you here?"
"Miss Potts?"
"Vision, you can call me Pepper, I'm not Tony."
Vision smiled. "Pepper. I believe you have a contact who works in housing? Lettings and property."
Pepper typed into the computer, "I do, yes. Miss Kate Widdle. You'll make her day if you're about to ask for her contact details or assistance."
"How so?"
"You're her favourite Avenger apparently," Pepper smirked. "Okay, that's printing now. Are you thinking of living with, her?" She nodded at Vision's expression. "My lips are sealed."
"I am not sure yet. I want to be somewhere tucked away, we, or rather she deserves somewhere away from here," he smiled to himself. "Thank you for helping us."
"I'm not on anyone's side, not even Tony's," she handed over the piece of paper. "Say hi to her for me."
"Who?"
"Oh, both."
Vision stood up. "Thank you again," he folded the paper up neatly and slipped it into his back pocket.
"Good luck."
Vision left the room and made his way to his quarters, he shut the door behind him and took out the paper and turned it overseeing that Pepper had written a note saying that he could take her car, but first, he needed to organise a meeting with Kate.
"Could I be put through to Miss Widdle, please? Thank you."
"This is Kate Widdle, who am I speaking to?"
"This is The Vision, Avenger."
Kate gasped and Vision smiled. "Wow. I mean, sorry. How can I help you, sir?"
"Would it be possible to meet you sometime this week?"
"Of course. I can slot you in on Thursday?"
"Thursday is, that will be fine. Thank you."
"Any specific time?" Kate chuckled softly.
"Oh sorry," Vision stammered. "Any time is good for me."
"Okay, does 3 pm sound good?"
"Yes, thank you."
"See you then. Goodbye, Vision."
Vision sat back in his chair and took a deep breath despite not needing it, he was meeting an estate agent with no idea where he actually wanted to go, all he wanted was somewhere he and Wanda would be safe to wait out the accords. His hand moved to the stone as it did when he was worried, and he glanced at the photo frame which held a photo of him and Wanda. The hands on the clock moved to 4 pm and he clicked on the call button on his phone.
"Morning sleeping beauty."
Wanda smiled with a yawn. "You're the best alarm anyone could wake up to. What time is it there?"
"Four in the afternoon."
"When are you visiting me? I miss you."
"Not until next week. I miss you too."
Wanda sat up. "I'm booking you a plane ticket. Why did you choose Edinburgh?" She added in a quiet voice.
"The Avengers have never been to England, or rather we've never had to deal with anything there. You're not on anyone's radar. I just want you to be safe."
"But I'm freezing."
"My skin hasn't got a temperature. I wouldn't be able to help with that."
Wanda laughed. "That's not the point," she sighed. "I love you."
Vision smiled. "I love you too. Book a ticket for me for next Monday."
"Thank you."
"What for?"
"Just, I couldn't do any of this without you. I don't have anyone else."
"You're welcome, I'd do anything for you."
"I know."
"Have you got everything you need there?"
"Yes, Vis. I only took what I needed from the cabin, and my room at the compound is empty."
"Good, I'll be there soon."
"Wish it were sooner."
"Goodbye sweetheart."
Wanda's heart fluttered, "see you next week, Vis."
Vision turned the phone off and put it down on the desk replacing it with a book on Real Estate.
"Mr Vision, it's so good to meet you," Kate held out her hand and Vision shook it. "Come this way."
"Thank you."
Kate led him over to her booth and then sat down at her desk, "I thought you would have come as you."
"I'm trying out a disguise, it's an attempt to blend in."
Kate smiled. "Fair enough. So, how can I help?"
"I would like to buy a plot instead of a house, and give my life partner a chance to build her life from scratch with me."
"A very romantic gesture."
"Yes, that was the intention."
"Any preference as to where this plot is? It's a big country," she stated as she typed, starting a file for him.
"Somewhere quiet, and not too populated. But not too far from Upstate New York if possible."
"Okay," she typed in the area. "I've not got much for those choices, but there is this place here." She flipped the screen for Vision to see, "Westview, New Jersey."
Vision sat forward, "that's not far from here. 60 miles or so."
"Too close?"
"No that's acceptable. Population 4000."
"Just under. Is that too many?"
Vision smiled. "I was asking for a lot wasn't I?"
"It's a town with not a lot going on, the population has probably gone down actually. You said a plot of land didn't you?"
"Yes."
"Let me see," she flipped the screen back and hummed thoughtfully until she smiled broadly. "Well there is a plot here, there's also a house in need of renovation."
"Can I hear about the plot please?"
"Of course. This is Lot B. Detached, in the middle of two houses both also plots. Offroad parking too, which is labelled here."
Vision nodded. "It's perfect."
Kate double blinked. "That was fast."
"How do I purchase it?"
"We'll have to go to Westview and sort out the deed there. We can go now if you'd like?"
"Thank you."
"My pleasure. After you."
Vision followed Kate's car in the one he had borrowed from Pepper and they turned off the main road following the road signs to Westview, traffic disappeared and the busy road turned into a quiet lane before they reached a junction and a sign welcoming them to the town. It was quiet and people were going about their business. Vision took note of the shops and leaflets pinned to lampposts before braking as Kate's car ahead pulled to a stop outside an estate agent's.
"This is Westview."
Vision nodded. "It's sweet, I think my partner will love it here."
"Wonderful. Let's get this deed sorted out then, I'll be your grantor. Follow me."
The property deed was soon completed and Kate parted ways with Vision who wanted to see the plot of land he had purchased. He drove down a street called Sherwood and found Plot B between two houses, both were in need of renovation like Kate had said, but his focus was on the middle one. Concrete foundations had been left where someone had begun work, and he smiled before getting back into the car, he couldn't wait to start his life with Wanda. Once he arrived back at the compound he found Tony with Pepper and gave her back the car key smiling as she winked, then returned to his quarters to check the deed. He took out a red pen and wrote a small note from him outlining it with a heart before sealing the deed in an envelope for the day he would surprise Wanda. He turned at a knock on the door and smiled at Rhodey.
"This arrived for you, Vision."
"Thank you, James," he took the envelope from him.
"Tony was asking where you were."
"That's not for him to know."
Rhodey held his hands up, "don't shoot the messenger. I'll be going."
Vision waited until he had left the room, then opened the envelope to find the plane ticket to Glasgow, he smiled and slipped it into his wallet that Wanda had bought for him.
It was nearly midnight when Vision's plane landed in Edinburgh, and once he was out of the airport he transformed into his normal form and took off to fly to the hotel that Wanda was staying in. He approached the window and materialised through the glass into the room landing gently beside the bed then drew back the sheets getting in beside her.
"Vis?" She whispered.
"Yes, darling."
"Did you have a good journey?"
"Not really, but being with you makes up for it," he smiled in the darkness and wrapped his arms around her.
"See you in the morning."
"I'm not going anywhere," he kissed the top of her head and she fell asleep again.
Wanda called up for room service the next morning and Vision remained in his second form to avoid any excitement or rumours that an Avenger was staying at the hotel. Wanda sat in bed watching the news and Vision ran his fingers through her hair that trailed over his arm.
"Does Tony know I'm here?"
"I didn't tell him a thing. He and Miss Potts are thinking of leaving the compound, I overheard Rhodes talking to them."
"Why are they leaving?"
"That they didn't say, but I think it's Pepper's idea. The compound isn't home for her."
Wanda nodded. "There isn't a home there anymore, I'm surprised it hasn't been shut down."
Vision pressed his lips to the side of her head, "we'll settle somewhere soon, together. The accords won't be in motion forever. I'm thinking about removing my name from them."
"Vision, no. Your name on those forms keeps you safe. I'd rather you be in Tony's care or mine than anyone else's," her attention was temporarily drawn to the tv currently showing the weather forecast. "It's going to be nice today. Fancy a trip out?"
"That sounds wonderful."
"You're so positive, Vision."
"As long as you're happy, I'll be whatever you want me to be."
Wanda turned the tv off and took Vision in her arms instead, he kissed her back intensely but held her gently never wanting to accidentally hurt her in any way.
They left the hotel hand in hand and walked to the city's observatory in the park. Wanda smiled up at Vision who had camouflaged himself to match everyone else and she squeezed his hand tighter.
"You're fitting in wonderfully."
"You think so?" Vision asked.
"Yes. If I didn't already know you, I wouldn't know who I was looking at."
Vision nodded. "Good. I want to be on the run with you forever. It feels like a home here, unlike the compound."
"You've changed your mind about that place?"
"It feels empty and unwelcoming."
"Well, I'm not going back there," she shrugged as they passed a popup coffee stand. "Can we stop here please? I want a cookie."
They sat down on a bench overlooking the city, and Vision looked up to the sky.
"He's out there somewhere, it won't be long until he comes to find this stone."
"Don't. I won't let him touch you."
"Wanda, how long do you think I can hide from Mr Stark? He's been lenient because I explained my devotion to you."
"And I've kept my promise to Steve, I've kept my head low and powers concealed. But I can't keep this up for much longer, Vis. I feel like I'm trapped in my head, and there's no way out."
Vision wrapped an arm around her and kissed the top of her head, "it won't be forever."
