The Night Is Ours

A/N: Hi, I'm back after a short break.

Disclaimer: I do not own Pokemon, the cover image and the lyrics of the song used in the story.

It was already nighttime, as the sky gradually darkened. A few stars still twinkled in the clear night sky, while a full moon hung above the city's skyline.

Placing her keys on the small shelf by the door, Serena lets out a sigh of relief as she steps into her mansion, prepared by her manager. She kicks off her shoes and sets down her purse. It's been a long day.

Now that she's home in a more comfortable environment, she feels even more tired. The exhaustion from taking too many photos for a magazine shoot, going for many interviews, and dealing with a lot of paparazzi is really starting to get to her. She didn't feel like switching out of her dress or removing her makeup.

Slumping onto the couch, she lays down, letting her head hit the soft pillow behind her. Closing her eyes, she just rests there for several minutes. Her mind begins to wander about. Thoughts of how today was supposed to be her and Ash's 5th-anniversary date, only for her work and his responsibility of being Alola's champion to interfere with it once again. Her longing for the raven-haired lover to be by her side. She wishes he were here right now so he could hold her while she drifted off to sleep.

A sudden noise jolts her back to reality. She sits up quickly as her senses are instantly on high alert, trying to figure out where the sound came from. After a few seconds, she recognizes the source; it was from her patio.

Serena stood up cautiously and grabbed a nearby lamp on her way over to the sliding doors.

Her patio was illuminated by candles placed along with the pathway and string lights that had been hung on the trees, providing light and bathing the entire area in warm yellow.

Serena was taken aback at the sight before her.

In the middle sat beautiful roses and carnations surrounding a candlelit table with white cloth laid upon it. It was set with food and silverware – along with champagne glasses filled with sparkling red liquid that smelled intoxicatingly sweet.

Serena's eyes widened with wonder when she noticed a note taped to the tree beside her.

Her barefoot made contact with the soft grass as she carefully made her way over to it, she read the small print. 'Dearest love, Happy Anniversary to the woman who captured my heart. This will be our fifth anniversary. Time really flies, doesn't it? I loved these five years. With you only I will feel complete. I want to be with you forever, to wake up next to you every morning and spend each day with you. - Love, Ash'

She can't believe this. Was he serious? Did he just come all the way from Alola to Kalos for their anniversary? Serena couldn't wait for him to show up so she could tell him just how much she loved him. She felt her heartbeat quickening and her cheeks begin to heat up.

Serena looked around nervously, wondering if he was hiding somewhere watching her reaction to what he did. She wanted him to be happy too. If only he knew how much she adored him… He truly made her world a better place. She couldn't imagine life without him anymore.

Strings of a guitar were being strummed, music notes filled the air, followed by the soft voice singing entering her ear.

"I'll take your hand. And lead you through the streets. I can't stop smiling. You've got me by your side, I know no matter where we go tonight. And every moment, we're together, we're never alone. Stay with me and don't let go, baby. Tonight, the night is ours,"

Serena's breathing hitched slightly at the melody. She'd definitely recognize that voice anywhere.

She turned around to see Ash standing there with his acoustic guitar. His hair fell perfectly over his forehead as he smiled brightly, giving her the opportunity to admire him in all his glory. Even after 5 years together, his smile still managed to take her breath away. She felt like everything was perfect just then.

Ash was still grinning widely, giving a playful wink before continuing,"

I'm in love with you. So very much."

The blonde walked towards him, stopping a couple of inches away from him, "How do you always know exactly when to surprise me?"

He smiled softly, "My dear, you always know when to surprise me too,"

Ash reached into his coat and pulled a white rose out from it. "This one's for you,"

She took the rose from his hands and began admiring its beauty, "What is it?"

"White roses mean eternal love,"

Serena felt her cheeks grow warmer, "I love it… Thank you. They look beautiful,"

As soon as Serena said those words, she suddenly took a step forward, reaching for Ash's face and kissing him deeply, making sure he knew how grateful she was for his presence. Their kiss lingered between them as they pulled back slowly.

They both grinned goofily at each other. "Happy anniversary, my dear," Ash murmured with a loving smile.

She returned his smile, looking into his caramel orbs," I love you, Ash. You have no idea how much."

I thought we should celebrate our anniversary by having dinner together. Would you like that, darling?"

She nodded enthusiastically, "I would love that,"

He offered his arm to her, which she gladly accepted. As they reached the table, Ash pulled out a chair for her, which she gratefully slid into.

After he seated himself across from Serena, he reached over the table to hold her hand, "What do you think of that proposal?"

Serena playfully scoffed at the thought, "I can think of much better ideas," She then giggled.

A mischievous glint appeared in his eyes, as he leaned in closer to her.

"And maybe later… I can give you something else…" He breathed in her ear, sending chills down her spine, "Something else… special… for you, my love,"

Serena's mouth fell open a little at his flirtatious tone. He continued to smirk at her.

"You're so cute when you're flustered. Come on, let's eat!" He gave her fingers a gentle squeeze before releasing her hand and both of them began to dig into their meal.

Throughout their meal, the two spoke freely and happily about their days, exchanging silly jokes and funny stories.

After their dinner, Ash decided to reveal the final part of tonight.

"Wait for a minute, will you?" Ash stood up and jogged into the house to get something.

Just as Serena was left wondering what he could possibly be doing, bright red lights grabbed her attention.

Turns out more string lights hanging on the trees, but these red ones were arranged so it wrote 'I Love You'

The surprises just keep coming as her favourite song, "Can't Help Falling In Love" starts playing and Ash comes back outside, walking towards where she was.

In the midst of the string lights, Ash held his hand out and asked, "May I have this dance?"

Serena laughed and took his hand, holding onto it with excitement as she allowed him to lead.

"Wise men say

Only fools rush in

But I can't help

Fallin' in love with you"

Once he brought her close enough, he wrapped his arms around her waist and started swaying side to side.

"Oh, shall I stay?

Would it be a sin?

Oh, if I can't help

Fallin' in love with you

Like a river flows

Surely to the sea

Darling, so it goes

Some things

Are meant to be"

The song continued as the two swayed to the music gently, feeling completely content and peaceful inside. Serena rested her head against Ash's chest, enjoying the warmth the embrace provided.

"Take my hand

Take my whole life too

Oh, for I can't help

Fallin' in love with you

Oh, like a river flows

Surely to the sea

Darling, so it goes

Some things are meant to be"

Serena looked up at Ash. He stared down at her lovingly and tenderly. She moved her hand up to stroke his cheek. Under the moonlight, both of their eyes shared a tender and loving gaze. The love they felt for each other shone through those orbs. It was clear that they both felt the same way – completely in love. Serena could not have asked for anything better than to spend the rest of her life with him.

"Oh, take my hand

Take my whole life too

For I can't help

Fallin' in love with you"

Ash lovingly cupped her cheeks, caressing her smooth skin. He pressed his lips against hers sweetly as Serena's arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him closer as he deepened the kiss.

"Oh, oh, for I, I can't help

Fallin' in love with you"
