Sometimes in life, we find that our greatest enemies…are ourselves.
Chapter 1: Revelation
The light bulb faintly flickered over the table inside the warehouse. The mad scientist, known as Doctor Locus, carefully embedded the bright crystals that washed the laboratory in colors and light inside the blue and white teenage robot laying on the table. He used a small drill and wore a pair of magnifying goggles to gently place them over her body. Some trailed down her arms and legs, others on her chest plate. It was one of his finest works. He wiped his forehead and smiled at what he did.
"There, it is done." He said as he placed his tools on the tray sitting across from him and took off his gloves.
As the crystals were finally placed, a surge of electricity filled XJ9 to her core. She winced at the power shot through her systems. She took some artificial breaths to speed up her cooling system. Sitting up, she gazed at her arm which now held the power of the crystals. Sparks of light rose from her limbs and around her torso. She grinned to herself as she felt the power surging inside her.
"Now, you promised me to help me carry out my plan as well as get back at my rejected creation, Melody, once I helped you, well I embedded these stones…now where's my part of the deal?" Doctor Locus sighed exhausted.
XJ9's smile faltered, replace with a grimace and rolling her optics,
"Oh yea…that." She took a deep breath and smirked,
"Not happening."
His eyes shot open and he stared at her incredulously,
"What?! We had a deal!"
XJ9 chuckled to herself darkly,
"Well, here's the thing…" She narrowed her optics, which started to glow a bright white light,
"I lied."
Locus was stunned and angry,
"You're a global response unit designed to help people, you can't do that! You always follow through!"
XJ9 shook her head and laughed,
"That was the old me…to listen to a human and follow their command…"She frowned,
"But not anymore…this time, I'm the one in control."
Locus stared at her in shock, this wasn't like her at all!
"What about your creator?"
XJ9 scoffed and waved her hand,
"My so-called mother, Doctor Wakeman means nothing to me…not after what she has done…and lets just say she is sleeping with the fishes." She laughed at the last part.
"She's dead?!"
XJ9 shrugged,
"Well in my universe anyways…here, in this universe, she is still alive."
She chuckled giving a nasty cheeky grin,
"But not for long, like many others here in this pitiful town."
Doctor Locus blinked in amazement,
"Wait…you're from another universe? That means…"
XJ9 nodded as she got off the table and detached herself from all the equipment,
"I'm not the Jenny you know, that's right."
"But…why are you here?"
XJ9 sighed,
"Simple…I want control." She flashes an evil smile sending a shiver down Locus's spine.
Doctor Locus immediately started to feel anxious and started to look for a way to call for help. He ran to the wall on the other side and picked up the phone from a receiver to call for help.
XJ9 rolled her optics,
"You're wasting your time…Skywake Patrol is useless and how could you be so sure 'the other me' would come save you?"
Locus stared at her in confusion. She strolls up to him with a wicked grin opening and closing her fist, feeling the crystal's power,
"You can't call for help…especially when you're incapable of talking…"
She places her hands on his chest, sending out its power. Locus felt his face tighten, he lost feeling in his lips. He tried to stretch out his jaw, only to find it stuck. XJ9 lets go of him and he collapses onto the floor. She smirked at him as he slowly reached up to his face, feeling for his lips...his eyes widened in horror when he found nothing but smooth skin under his beard,
"mmm…Mmm…MMMMM!" He frantically cried as he felt where his mouth used to be causing XJ9 to laugh.
Luckily he was still able to breathe somewhat, though found it to be harder. She snickered and then tied him to a post with a rope,
"Now be a good mute and stay here."
XJ9 activated her pigtails, her wings emerged from her back ready to take flight. Her body was now glowing, thanks to the crystals. She blasted into the night sky, next stop: Cluster Prime.
She cackled…having powers never felt so good…time for vengeance.
The mad doctor watched as the former hero flew away in lights and colors. He tried to scream, but all that came out was muffled sounds.
Locus is not one to give up so easily…until now. He couldn't break free from the rope and now he couldn't scream. He can't cry for help too long without passing out since no one is around to help him and he would lose oxygen quicker without a mouth.
He gulped as mind came to the conclusion.
I'm…I'm gonna die here.

Melody flew around town for hours, her heart still broken. She didn't know whether to go back or not. She just didn't want to face them right now. But where would she go? Tears continually streamed down her cheeks, so hurt and betrayed…
A muffled cry disrupted her thoughts. She turned to the source, which was an abandoned warehouse. She slowly descended and landed next to the opening.
She peered into it,
"Hello? Is someone in here?" Her voice echoed through the seemingly empty warehouse.
It was silent. She was about to turn away, until she heard it again. She activated her night vision in her optics and made her way into the building.
She froze when she saw a man tied up to a wooden post.
Melody narrowed her optics and slowly approached the man, he looked oddly familiar. She knelt down at his eye level to observe him, he looked terrified and his eyes were red from crying and exhaustion. He looked like he was trying to speak…except he had no mouth. She gasped when she recognized who it was, she whispered to no one in particular in shock,
"Daddy?"
—————————————————————
The image of the man was drilled into Doctor Wakeman's mind. She received the call from Jenny's friends hours before reporting a dead body behind the mall and the wound was not given by another human. She was horrified to hear the news and left her sister and nephew as fast as she could to the scene with the boys.
Seeing the corpse and the gaping wound made her heart stop in fear and shock. She observed the wound, seeing if she could identify what monster could have done this.
No…it can't be… She shivered. The shape looked strikingly similar…no…exactly like something that a plasma cannon would make, a weapon that Jenny herself has.
The cops came to collect the body and told Wakeman they'll perform an autopsy to confirm who and what exactly killed him. Wakeman was silent and felt very uneasy…She didn't want to jump to conclusions, unlike last time at one particular Christmas, but it's hard not to.
She went home, surprised to find her other XJ prototypes in the kitchen and Jenny nowhere in sight.
"Girls, what are you all doing, activated?"
The sisters all stared in shock,
"Mom! You're home early!" Noted XJ4 nervously putting her oil can on the table.
"I got a call from Brad and Sheldon…where's your sister?"
XJ6 rolled her optics,
"Probably still ignoring me in her bedroom…it was just a prank! Ok maybe a little too far, but still!"
XJ7 frowned unimpressed,
"What you did really hurt her."
XJ6 groaned waving her arm in frustration,
"It was just a joke! She's just sensitive!"
She glared at her mother,
"She doesn't know what it's like to be treated like nothing…mother."
XJ5 tired of hearing her sister's lame excuses shouted,
"Will you shut it already? We all get it, we all have been there…" She sighed reluctantly,
"I'm guessing you want us back in the basement now, huh mom?"
Doctor Wakeman didn't respond, she just stared at them, while her mind raced too preoccupied with her thoughts. The memory of the man burned in her mind. It couldn't have possibly been Jenny, right? This was her final robot, this shouldn't have happened! Where did I go wrong?
"Mom?" Asked XJ5 confused by her silence.
Wakeman continued down the rabbit hole, starting to show visible panic. She knew her daughter had a fiery temper, but she wouldn't have done this right? I thought I got it right this time! How could this happen? Although hopefully it could have been another robot, it seems unlikely…Oh dear if it is her…but I don't want to…I don't want to…
"Mother." Boomed XJ8 voicing concern disrupting the doctor's thoughts.
Wakeman blinked, now out of her thoughts looking up at XJ8.
"Is everything ok?"
Wakeman gave a heavy sigh as she looked up at one of her prototypes. She gulped if anyone knows anything it may be her sisters, as what Jenny likes to call them.
"Girls, has XJ9 been acting strange at all lately while you were activated?"
The girls all looked at each other confused at the question and shook their heads.
"No, she was her usual normal self, why?"
Their mom sighed exasperated. Not mind control this time, it seems. She rubbed her forehead tiredly and casually waddled over to the coffee machine.
She poured herself a cup of coffee and swallowed some of the warm liquid. The sisters all glanced at each other now worried.
"Mom, what's going on?" Wondered XJ7 rolling up to her and placing a hand on her shoulder.
The doctor smacked her lips as she finished swallowing the coffee and then sighed. She observed the girls solemnly,
"I came home early because of a distress call from Jenny's friends and…they found a dead body behind the dumpster at the mall."
The girls were stunned, XJ6 raised an optic,
"Why didn't they call the police? Why did they call you?"
"Because the boys wanted me to look at it, especially since the specific wound couldn't be caused by another human…it had to be a robot." She continued,
"And that's why I'm also not letting you go back into the basement…I'm going to have you all keep a close eye on your sister like the boys will be doing."
"Watch Jenny? What does she have to do with this?"
Wakeman gulped her eyes started to water,
"Because the wound seemed to be caused by a plasma cannon, identical to what XJ9 carries…it's a high probability that…that…" she started to choke in tears, unable to finish the sentence.
"That…Jenny was the one who killed him?" XJ7 whispered softly in shock finishing her mother's sentence. The words, once out of her mouth, pierced the other sisters into stunned silence. Jenny, their own sister? Killing someone? That can't be right…could it?
"I don't believe it either, but we did end up calling the police, they'll call us back in the next few days with an autopsy report and we will know more details…but just for now, to be safe, keep an eye on her and don't utter a word about this to her, ok?"
The girls all stood there speechless and shocked at what they just heard, the room filled with uncomfortable silence. Their minds swam through the new data of information. For starters, it's weird hearing their mother saying she needed them to do something…especially if it involves someone murdered and that the supposed killer might be their stronger 'older' sister Jenny. XJ8 was next to speak still in her monotone voice, yet it was quieter,
"Alright mother…we'll do it."
Wakeman nodded,
"Good…now if you'll excuse me…I'll be in my lab working." She waded through the quiet robot sisters and down the staircase. Leaving them once again in silence. Only this time, unlike all the other times in the basement, this silence felt somewhat more horrifying.
