San Lorenzo
Two hours after waking up
Stella POV
I couldn't help but stare at my baby in admiration.
'No. That's not right...Young man. Look how tall he is. And he reminds me so much of Miles! '
Just thinking of how much time I lost with my son breaks my heart. But the overwhelming pride of his bravery and strength overrides that.
I couldn't help but smile as Arnold animatedly waved his hands in the air while speaking to one of his friends. His friend mimicked his actions, wearing a red shirt with the number 33 on it.
Both boys motioned towards two girls, who were trying to pretend that they weren't also observing them.
'To be young again'
The Green Eyed Elders didn't only have premonitions about El Niño Del Volcán. (The Child of the Volcano)
They also had stories about 'Su corazón'. (His heart)
Which is not to be confused with Corazón.
Corazón was an ancient and very sacred artifact. It's main purpose was to help spread cures like the sleeping sickness some of the Elder Green Eyed members, as well as my husband and I were victim to.
The Elder leader, who is most commonly referred to as 'El Líder Sabio' asked to speak with Miles and I shortly after waking.
Setting the plan we created into motion, I searched for the teacher in charge.
Interrupting his conversation and directing him away from the cluster of preteens, I said. "I hear we are headed to Puerto Clara." Mr. Simmons smiled brightly. "That's right Mrs. Shortman. Eduardo has been helping us make accommodations. We are staying at El Bu-no. El Cas" he said trying to remember the name. Taking a deep breath, he rephrased his statement. "We're staying overnight in Puerto Clara and have flights booked back to Hillwood tomorrow afternoon."
I smiled at the teacher. "My husband and I have tentative plans with the elders. They requested Arnold presence as well, but we will meet up with everyone afterward. I just wanted to inform you of our plans."
One slim brown haired girl squealed about a bug. A blonde haired girl raced after her screaming 'not to hurt it.'
Keeping his eyes on the preteens in front of us, Mr. Simmons mumbled a 'whatever you need' before giving me a contact number and returning to the rowdy group of kids arguing over insects.
Not long after, Miles put his arm around my shoulder. I leaned into him, sighing in contentment. I was not expecting him to say "I think Su corazón is a Pataki."
'Pataki? It sounds familiar but I can't place it.'
The name immediately registered when I heard an aggressive "Move it ya yutz!" My head snapped toward the voice.
A blonde girl weaved through the crowd. Her destination was a taller blonde woman who doted on the shorter in a loving fashion. The shorter girl was waving off the attempts as they had a heated conversation.
Something about the duo and how she phrased her statement sent me back in time.
Flashback
It was a few months after I became Mrs. Stella Shortman. I was driving to the Corner Store for Gertie. Something about running out of raspberries and watermelon. I didn't question it, wanting to be a good daughter-in-law.
Out of nowhere, a 1969 Lincoln Continental with vanity license plates beeped behind me. When that wasn't enough, the driver aggressively pulled into the lane next to my blue 1995 Saturn SW.
A middle aged man yelled out the driver's side window.
"Move it ya yutz! She's going to be late!" He motioned towards the backseat. A beautiful blonde girl smiled and waved at me. When she looked in the driver's direction, the smile faded and she frantically began biting her nails.
When the light turned green, he whizzed past me without a second glance.
After explaining the events prior, my father-in-law replied "pfft. Bob Pataki. His temper's as short as his d-"
Miles interrupted "Dad."
Phil laughed, shaking his head "Pataki."
Present Day
"Do you think Olga remembers the first time you met her?" I looked at my husband in question. He continued with "Bob's oldest. I was talking with her while you were talking to the teacher." I nodded in understanding, asking again "Do you really think the younger is Su corazón?"
Miles had a knowing grin. "Without question." Still staring at the sisters, I asked "Do you think we should invite her to the meeting with El Líder Sabio?"
My husband pulled me back to his side. "Already asked. Olga was hesitant but eventually agreed." Looking up at him, I joked "Using that Shortman charm against helpless women again?"
He winked "It's how I got you, mi amor."
A/N:
- Thought it would be a nice change to see Stella's point of view
- Arnold was actually referenced in the second movie as El Niño Del Volcán (the child of the Volcano) as were the location of Puerto Clara & obviously corazón
- I made up the whole Su corazón (his heart) concept and the head Elder being called 'El Líder Sabio'. The translation in Spanish means 'the wise leader'
