Also, I saw 'king's tides' and it was a mind blower, there was so much in this episode that I can't even write it down because I'm affraid to spoil someone but it was really good and my others works like 'lord of crows' would need a few revision after the final.

Chapter 1 : I read fast

Bump was not having a good time, he was sitting in front of principal Faust, a demon with buffalo horns so long that he needed to bench his head every time he has to go somewhere while his face could be described as two points for eyes and a maw on a dried steak, it was from from a pleasant sight.

"I'm not happy, Bump. Do you know why I am not happy?" Faust told him in a threatening tone.

"No." Bump answered, Knowing that Faust would rather hear his own voice.

"I'm angry because I asked you to bring me more students and you went to the E.W.W.C and brought a bunch of criminals." The flames from Faust's tail grew higher after his declaration.

"But you asked me to fetch more students but every parent already enrolled their children in other schools. Beside, these children have nothing to do but train their magic in the program so I was thinking that this way we could still have students with a good level… and considering that you expelled half of last year's students and their parents were far from pleased it wasn't like we could afford to be picky." Bump added the last line in a whisper.

Faust frowned at the last part of Bump's answer. "You know why I am severe with them."

"Because 'children are depraved and it is your role as a principal to correct them'." Bump just repeated the same excuse Faust used for his behavior.

"Precisely, But children of wild witches are the worst, it is in their blood and if any of these rotten eggs make themselve know it will be a stain on MY REPUTATION…" Funnily enough, Faust blinked at the end. "I mean Hexide's reputation." He added while he was embarrassed.

Bump winced at the verbal violence toward the children who didn't even enter his office. Frankly, he wanted this conversation to end but he had to do the best for the school and the children.

"But we don't have enough students without them. Our school would look bad in front of the emperor if we were the school with the lowest number of students… Parents are already thinking about transferring their children to Glandus… also, there were two kids who used a form of magic I have never seen before." Although Bump had to admit that it seemed crude and unrefined when these children showed this new method. Bringing the idea he would have something no other school have. could change Faust's mood to

"Really?" Well, he changed the subject at least.

"Yes, they took papers and drew on it just like that." Bump quickly took a sheet of paper and drew on it before it turned into an orb of light.

Faust just blinked a few times as he watched the demonstration. "That's interesting."

Meanwhile, Renatus Hornfel was just sitting in the dining room of the orphanage where everyone was taking breakfast but he wasn't eating

Bump was vice-principal and judging by his appearance, Ren must be decades before the canon… Meaning that there was a strong possibility he could try to prevent Eda from being cursed… or do nothing and let the story continue in order to take advantage of his knowledge, heck he could just let Luz do all the work and stop Belos!

No matter the ideas, suggestions and arguments on it, the subject was too uncomfortable for Ren. What kind of sick bastard would let a poor girl suffer because it was convenient?

He always hated the scenes where Eda was cursed, she was his favorite character and just the whole story was a tearjerker : Her own sister cursed her and it was all for nothing.

"Ren… Ren…" Someone called him.

"What ?" Ren looked up, Solaris was sitting in front of him while they were at the cafeteria, taking their breakfast.

"You have been staring at your porridge for ten minutes." The white haired witch answered him while Ren felt embarrassed.

"Sorry… I just have a lot on my mind."

"Yeah… Tomorrow is going to be a big day." Solaris was thinking about Hexide but not for the same reasons as him.

Truth to be told, Ren thought their friendship was mostly based on what they brought to each other. He approached her to learn the basics of earth magic while she agreed to help him only if he could teach her the use of glyphs. Ren knew it was wrong and that she will probably stop talking to him when she makes friends at Hexide or lose interest now that he told her everything he knew about the four glyphs but he could cope with it.

There were a lot of things more important than that.

The morning after, they were all in front of Hexide while the principal, a big demon named Faust, was on a podium, addressing them.

"Welcome to Hexide, where you will be learning magic before joining a coven. As you may know, a few children from E.W.W.C have been offered the opportunity to join our establishment in order to have a better future."

"More like keeping your job after expelling half of the students." A random student joked

Faust just snapped his fingers before two guards grabbed the student and took him inside the school, probably to send him to the detention pit. "Wait, I was just joking, JUST JOKING!" The student yelled while the children of wild witches looked downright horrified at that.

'Yep, that's Hexide.' .

So now it was Ren's turn to choose his track and thanks kami, or rather thanks Dana, he doesn't have to put on the choosy hat. Apparently it wasn't in the school yet.

He opened the door but to his surprise he saw the vice-principal sitting in front of him

"Wait, I thought the principal was the one charged to present the tracks." Ren clearly remembered that Bump was the one who presented the tracks to Luz.

"Principal Faust is just not good with children." Bump bluntly answered

"So why is he principal?"

"He was appointed by the emperor's coven." Bump quickly answered.

Ren internally winced, considering that Bump participated in the construction of Hexide by going to war with the precedent school and lost an eye during the fight, it must have been a hard blow to have someone appointed by the emperor to manage the school.

"Anyway, As you already know, you have to choose one track among the nine proposed at the school. But be careful, you can only choose one."

Ren found the choice quite difficult as he still didn't make his choice. Given how bad he was at music then Bard was out of option, Abomination may be too complex and he wanted something easy to use so he could master the discipline and apply it to fight which means that Oracle and potions are out since he doesn't want to rely on something when he fights..

"Okay… So, to be honest I'm not sure about the tracks, I'm not really interested in the plant track and I was hesitating between healing, construction and beast keeping. So do you have any suggestions?"

"Do you want to regularly clean droppings or deal with hairs?"

"Nope."

"Can you stand the sight of blood, organs, bones and tell people they are going to die?"

"Nope." He always hated bad news.

"Then construction it is."

Then, Bump snapped his fingers and now Renatus was wearing the brown of the construction coven.

When he was dragged to his class, Ren was surprised that instead of being inside a classroom, the class was taking place in a worksite near the school.

There was in front of him a tall blond man with a full beard, the man was easily two meter tall while he was wearing a shirt that would probably shred with the wrong move from the witch.

"Vice-principal Bump, what are you doing here?" The tall witch politely asked.

"I come to present you Renatus Hornfel, he wishes to join your classes." Then Bunmp turned to Renatus. "He is Gargantos, he teaches construction."

"Nice to meet you." Although Ren had to admit that he felt uncomfortable with this tall witch looking at him as if he was inspecting furniture.

Then, without warning, Gargantos groped Ren's amrs before saying. "Well, you will have to work on them first."

Ren blinked a few times at the strange demand "What?"

"Your arms! They are too thin to belong to a builder. Look." Then the teacher took a pebble, put it between his bicep and forearm and broke it with the pure strength of his muscles. "That's the minimum to belong to the construction coven." The buff man said while contracting his muscles and destroyed the t-shirt in the process.

Ren sweatdropped at that while Bump whispered "Not all construction's members are like him."

" NONSENSE! The vice-principal and Ren jumped at the outburst. Gargantos just kept going. "In the construction you will have to lift wood, a lot of it. Even the best earth speller could either break it or make a poor job and it is why we must build our bodies." The teacher said as he contracted his muscles.

"What about power Glyphs ? Can't they make you stronger?" Renatus really wanted to get his hands on a few of them. It could not only make him stronger but also help him to train.

However, the two adults blinked at the question. "What are power glyphs ?" Bump asked.

Turns out that power glyphs weren't created thirty years ago. He can still improvise, he is in a magic school after all.

"Are you really going to borrow all of that?" The librarian asked Ren while he showed her a pile of at least six books : 'Earth magic for beginners', 'how to increase your magic.', 'creatures of the isles and how to slay them', 'applications of construction magic','communicate with demons through dancing' and finally Otabin.

"I read fast" Ren answered while the librarian looked at him in disbelief.

"Fine but bring them a day or two before their due date or Principal faust will expel you." the rat woman replied in a deadpan tone.

Ren blinked a few times at the harsh punishment. "You're kidding?"

"Nope."

Considering how detention was, it may actually be a light sentence.

GRRRRGGGRHR

The librarian looked at him in disbelief.

"Sorry, could you tell me where I can eat?"

The lunch was actually quite weird, it was a strange green mash… with an eye in it. No wonder Luz had trouble eating the food there. I.

After the last bite of the green mixture, he started to read his books as soon as he finished eating, the first book he read was how to talk with demons through dancing as he knew fairies main means of communication was through dance.

Renatus winced when he remembered that the cafeteria's board said that fairy pie was the dessert for tomorrow. It feels like eating Tinker Bell.

BRRGGGRG

Ren turned toward the sound that surprised and froze when he saw what it was

There were at least ten abominations monsters, they were all grabbing plates and throwing them everywhere but the most important part was a young witch with long red hair among them, now it was official, he was in Eda's generation.

"Yeahh!" The young witch was making the devil horns as if she was in a rock concert while the abominations were wrecking the cafeteria.

Then he saw the kitchen staff going to the scene so Ren just took advantage of the chaos to enter the kitchen, he only had to take three steps before he heard noise.

"Here you are." There were cages with little fairies inside of it, the poor creature seemed afraid and froze when they saw him.

"Don't worry, I'm here to help." But none of them seemed to have understand so he took one of his notes and unfortunately he had to dance which is something he will never tell a soul.

"I. here. help. you." His moves were saying wich seemed to have calmed a few of them

Ren didn't waste time and opened all the cages. "Fly, fly away!" He shouted to the fairies after he freed them, a flock of fairies flew out of the window, enjoying their freedom.

He barely got out of the kitchen before a student ran past him, yelling 'RUN!'. When Renatus turned to where the student came from he knew why.

The abominations were reuniting themselves in a giant pile of goo and Ren saw enough dragon ball episodes to know where this was heading.

The pile of abomination grew bigger and bigger before forming one, it was so tall that it reached the ceiling while others tried to join it.

"ROOOAAAAAAA!"

Yeah, that was bad.

So naturally, Ren took a fire glyph and threw a fireball at the monster, its leg was burned away but it was soon regenerated. In fact, the monster looked at Ren who was mentally scolding himself.

The giant tried to grab Ren so he threw another glyph, unfortunately, he took a plant glyph instead of a fire glyph

The vine extended to the monster arm but it just kicked away Ren while the vines were now improvised knuckle dusters and the monster intended to crush the blond with it.

But a giant specter got him out of the way before the fist connected, the specter quickly brought him to a girl wearing the Oracle's uniform.

"got you." The black haired girl answered.

Then the giant golem seemed to pause for a moment as he was glowing. Its shape changed before making two fists who attacked two students Ren didn't see.

"Damn it, You were supposed to help!" a familiar voice yelled.

"I was saving someone from your monster. Edalyn."

Ren paused at new that Eda was here while the Abomination finished its growth, the ceiling broke under the pressure while it ran toward Eda who was next to a wall, she used earth magic to make a hole through the wall unlike the abomination who just broke it.

The battle was now outside of the school which would make it easier for the witches to fight the monster…

Who ignored them and turned his fist into hammers in order to destroy the school. Beton crumbled, glasses shattered while Eda was fuming at being ignored.

"That's your fault!" The black haired girl directed it to Eda.

"Edalyn was just angry that YOU stole my lunch money so don't blame her for your mistakes. " A witch with glasses defended Eda… while Ren internally cringed as he realized there was no doubt about her being Lilith Clawthorne.

The thing is that even if Lilith changed, became a good person and genuinely regretted what she did, Ren just couldn't forget what she did. He tried but he just couldn't, he was too disgusted by what she did. Naturally, what she said was hypocritical at best for him.

Eda just whistled to stop the bickering. "Thank you for pointing facts but unless you can bore it to death you should help instead." The red hair pointed to the giant who was still rampaging."

"I tried to help, but now it has become too big so we just sit down and let the professionals handle it." The black haired girl declared.

"Except that Wrath will expel us for it." Eda bluntly declared.

"And don't forget that your parents will be informed, I don't think they would like to learn that the school was destroyed because of a Carissa." Lilith told her.

The black haired girl blinked a few times, She definitely didn't think about it.

"Any idea ?" She asked.

"I have one." Ren made himself noticed. "Do you know earth magic?"

After discussing the plan quickly they passed the action. Lilith used her palisment to fly above the giant while Ren was behind her and throwing as many fire glyphs as he can on it, thankfully he has already drawn plenty in his notebook.

Meanwhile, the black haired girl would use her specter to attack if from the ground while staying far away from it.

The giant was attacked by explosions, the specter clawed it but the goo was quickly growing.

"AAAAGGG" The monster roared, Lilith palisment shaked because of it.

"Are you okay?" Lilith asked her passenger.

"Yeah, I just hate noise…. And I ran out of fire." Ren has already tore all the pages with the fire glyphs and ignored how the others would react against the abomination.

"Don't worry, she has just finished."

That was Eda's part, she was the most talented at earth magic among them and thus was the only one who could put it.

While the abomination could regenerate, it would be ineffectual if nothing of it was left.

So Ren showed the fire glyph to her and she was going to draw it.

The ground shifted to form a crude drawing of the fire glyph with the giant abomination right in the middle of it.

Eda just put her hand on a part of the drawing to activate its powerl and a large pillar of flames engulfed the abomination.

The abomination tried to get out but the heat was making it impossible for it to make limbds strong enough to move its weight

At first there was a figure but shrinked again and again until there was nothing left but charred grass

Everyone was looking in awe at how destructive the fire glyph has been.

Except for Eda who was making a victory dance. "I did it, yes, yes yes."

Unfortunately, Faust didn't like that a giant abomination wrecked his school. While the circumstances were discutable there was no doubt that it was still going to cost a lot of money and he was far from happy to see the damages done to the kitchen.

So the four of them were waiting before they had to go to the principal's office, Lilith looked panicked while the black haired girl and Eda just looked bored out of their mind so Ren had nothing better to do than talking.

"So… You know abomination and potions?" Ren pointed to Eda's uniform, indicating she was in the potion track.

Her head turned toward him… And a skull was in front of him.

"AAAAAAh"

Although Ren knew Eda, he was still surprised and scared by the prank.

The illusion dissipated in a small yellow cloud as Eda's smile was revealed. "I also know illusion."

"Okay, you got me there." Ren laughed with Eda.

That's when he decided to screw fate and canon, thirty years was long after all.

Not gonna lie, I had difficulties writing this chapter, the fight and Eda were a bit difficult for me and while I wanted to show the dilemma , Ren is someone who lives in the moment and while following canon logic he would be disgusted by these actions.

However, it is say that he decided to change canon but nothing is set in stone

Also, Faust is a jerk, no surprise, but also incompetent. I mean, he fired someone for chewing too loudly so I don't really think he earned his job.

And if you want to know why Solaris and Ren didn't interracted at Hexide it's because she is two years older than him and thus they don't have the same schedule.
