Chapter 2

Third person P.O.V

It had been two hours since Saber had met Ari. He had caught hold of an interesting scent from outside of the house he was staying in. It was one of the many that the Brotherhood owned across the country. The scent was unlike any he'd ever encountered before. It was like that of an untamed forest, just after rain had fallen. He'd left the house to see a thin, pale teenage girl looking at his bike.

After gaining her attention, and getting a good look at her, he knew, he knew why her scent was so different. She was his mate. But she was human! When she had said about being too ill to learn to ride, he'd once again taken in her scent, there it was, her power was just a bit late surfacing, and was getting ready to manifest itself. He'd told her that was why he'd wondered what she'd thought about mutants, a half truth, the main reason was to see if she'd react badly to the thought of being close to a mutant, in any way.

Now, he was in her kitchen, explaining to her father, that his daughter was about to become a mutant, and after her power had finally surfaced, she'd never be ill again. Saber didn't have a plan, however, for Frank's reaction.

Frank smiled and said, "That's great, are you sure? It's about time her illness cleared up."

Saber had been planning for the event that the man would start screaming and shouting, and telling his daughter to get out of the house. It would have been an easy thing, to take Ari, and put her up, and then take her with him to the Brotherhood, after he'd finished locating potential new recruits for Magneto. But this… no, he had to change the plan now. He couldn't just kidnap her, that could make her resent him, he couldn't have that.

Saber could hear Ari in another room, setting up a web cam. She'd told her dad that she'd promised to contact her friends. He'd just have to get to know her, and do something based on that information.

Ari P.O.V

I left my dad and Saber to talk, Saber had offered to explain the situation to him. So I had left for the living room, to attach the web cam to the computer. When I was done, I logged on, and I was in luck, Cari was already on line.

I smiled as her image came up on screen. "Hey Cari!" I said brightly.

"Hey Ari, how are you? And how's America? No, wait a sec- HEY! GUYS! GET OVER HERE!" she yelled, facing away from the computer. Soon, Faith, Mark and Paddy were also on screen. I smiled widely.

"Ari!" They chorused happily.

"Hi guys. Guess what?"

"What?" Mark asked.

"I met someone who was able to tell me what was wrong."

"A doctor?" Faith asked.

I shook my head. "He's a feral mutant, with a healing factor. He said that the same thing happened to him, before his ability surfaced, and he became a mutant. He said, he knows of one other case, too."

"So you'll be a mutant?" Paddy asked.

"Yep." I popped the 'p'.

"Wicked." Mark said. "My little sister's going to be super charged!"

"This is going to be so cool!" Cari said. "And you won't have to worry about being ill anymore! Will you?"

"No. Saber's telling dad now, so that's put a stopper in me ever pulling sickies to get off school, no doubt dad will tell mam."

"Yep. You're going to have to go in every day now!" Faith laughed.

"Just think, when school starts back, there will be one hell of a reaction! One of the supposedly most mild mannered students a Feral!" Paddy said.

"You lot are going to have a field day with this, aren't you?" I asked.

"Oh, definitely, and you're probably going to have the confidence to show the rest of the school your true colours, too." Mark said.

I smiled, it was good to know that my friends would be there for me. I had been afraid of what they'd say, but I should have known not to be so stupid as to doubt that they'd be anything but supportive. We talked for a while, and I discovered that Siobhan, a girl I didn't much like in our year, had gotten herself pregnant. I then went on to tell them about the plane journey, and the full conversation between Saber and I.

After we had all said good bye, I typed up a quick e-mail to my mam, and a near identical one to Zoë, explaining the situation. Then, I wandered into the kitchen.

"Everything all-right?" I asked the two guys, as I sat down at the kitchen table.

"Everything's fine." dad reassured me. "Saber was just offering to help you with your abilities afterwards."

I smiled at Saber. "Thanks!"

He waved a hand. "It's no problem. You don't have to learn to utilise your abilities on your own, like I did."

I nodded, glad that he'd offered to help me. I don't know why, but I felt drawn to Saber, and felt like I had to be close to him. This would be a great opportunity to get to know him. I was suddenly extremely glad that dad had decided to move to America.
