Chapter 3
Ari P.O.V
"So, what do you do, normally I mean?" I asked Saber. My dad had gone to work and I was at Saber's, who my dad had asked to watch me. It seemed that, because I was going to be a mutant, my dad would only trust another mutant to look after me. When I'd asked him why he'd replied that if my power surfaced while I was with a human who could be anti mutant, the results wouldn't be pretty.
"You heard of the Brotherhood of Mutants?" Saber asked.
"Mutant group? Supposedly terrorists?"
"Terrorists? Not so much, just trying to make the world better for our kind."
"So, you work for them?"
"Yeah."
"What do you do for them?"
"I'm good in a fight, and my heightened sense of smell tells me whether a person has a mutation or not. Mutants smell different to humans." Saber answered from his seat beside me. "That's what I was doing here, looking for potential recruits."
"Is that why you approached me? As a recruit?" I felt kind of hurt.
"No. When I first caught hold of your scent, it seemed human. I missed the mutation, just underneath the surface."
I nodded, and returned my attention back to the T.V. It was silent for five minutes, then;
"So, is Ari short for something?" Saber asked.
"Arianwen. It's a bit of a mouthful, so people shorten it down. Is Sabertooth your actual name?"
"No." He laughed. "My real name's Victor Creed."
I don't know why, but I felt like he'd just told me something that not many people knew.
"Do many mutants have nicknames?"
"All of the mutants I know do. They usually have something to do with their power too."
"Well, I think my friends have all ready dubbed me." I laughed. "And that's only because of my name!"
"What do you mean?"
"Arianwen Tigris are Welsh and Irish for silver blessed tiger. So they call me Tiger. They add Silver Blessed if I annoy them. It's how I know if their drunk too. Well, that's more Marks area."
"Then it seems you're sorted in the name department. Well, as long as you don't go wolfish, or reptilian."
"That would put a stop to that nickname, but I don't fancy being reptilian, and I'm more of a cat person than a dog, so, fingers crossed, ay?"
"Fingers crossed. But I don't think you'll be reptilian, all the ferals I know that are reptilian do not have a healing factor, so I think you're safe on that front."
"Well, that's good to-" I was cut off by a coughing fit. Saber went and got a glass of water and tried to help me drink, but before I could drink any thing, I had to run to the kitchen and throw up. When I was done, my vision went blurry, and I passed out.
No P.O.V
Saber looked down at the small frame he had, cradled in his arms. He didn't remember his illness being this bad. He had more good days than bad. He gently picked up his small mate and headed towards the other bedroom.
He put Ari on the bed and sat down beside her, wiping a strand of hair out of her face. Even while she was ill, she was beautiful. Not just on the outside either. He'd seen enough of her to know that she was naturally kind and caring. She was also extremely loyal to any she considered a friend, and protective. He chuckled to himself, that was something she was going to have to put to one side when it came to him. It would be him protecting her.
Saber stilled when he smelt it. Her mutation was very close to surfacing. It wouldn't be long now. It was then he heard the front door burst open and he shot from his seat with a growl.
