A/N: guess who had to update her tags after publishing chapter two? Recap: James realized Dumbledore didn't give a shit about Lily and Dumbledore refused to let Remus go on an important mission (and Remus and Sirius fucked but that's not important). Please forgive me for this chapter, I do not own a pair of glasses. I kinda gave up on tw for this fic, it's sad, deal with it.
Dear Sirius and Remus,
That was the only thing James had written so far.
He didn't know how to put what he wanted to say into words. Well, he did but he couldn't write:
Hey, could you guys watch Harry for a bit while I go kill Peter? Thanks.
And send it.
James almost laughed at the thought of Sirius and Remus' expressions as they read the hypothetical letter.
He wasn't moving, sitting motionless at his desk. His quill was in his hand, hovering over the almost blank sheet of parchment. He decided to give up on writing more than four words when he heard crying. He got up and walked over to the nursery. Where he saw Harry and immediately smelled poop.
James didn't like the new nursery, especially not compared to the old one. Lily had picked out the wallpaper and helped James build and paint the crib and changing table. He remembered them painting the new furniture with white paint in the backyard together. He remembered them painting each others' faces with the white paint.
Lily was so pretty in her light blue overalls and yellow shirt which were both covered in white paint. She had such an adorable smile that made him want to melt. Lily was so perfect and beyond belief.
Was.
James dwelled on these thoughts as he changed Harry's diaper.

The sound of a book slamming shut echoed all across the small bedroom, once belonging to a younger Sirius Black. Sirius shifted his gaze from the floor to Remus, who put his boyfriend's book down beside him, not bothering to bookmark or even fold the corner of the page he was on.
"I still haven't heard from James, should we reach out?" Remus was lying down on the bed.
"Give him time, he'll talk to us when he's ready," Sirius was twirling his wand between his fingers.
They just stayed there, all motion ceased except for an old golden snitch that he stole from Reg moving rapidly with a faint buzzing sound and Sirius' wand moving in circles around his fingers.
"I'm gonna go get groceries," Remus got up.
Sirius could spot the excuse from a million miles away.
"You just got groceries five days ago," Sirius pointed out.
"We had an order meeting two days ago and we served food. I need to go buy food," Remus' voice became hard and Sirius realized he couldn't argue with him or convince him to stay.
"Just be quick," Sirius got up as well.
As he was getting up, Sirius put his wand on the dresser right next to him. Remus' hand was on the doorknob when Sirius put a hand on his face and moved it to face Sirius. The boy in all leather leaned forward to kiss the boy in the knitted jumper. Sirius was on his tiptoes trying to kiss him. Remus shut his eyes and bent down. One still towered over the other.
Sirius felt Remus' hand reach up and enter his scalp. Sirius wrapped his arms around Remus' neck, attempting to lift himself further to be able to actually kiss the fucking giant. Sirius was about to purposely fall onto the bed when Remus pulled apart slowly. Sirius saw him smile.
"I'm never going to get tired of that," Remus stood up fully, towering over Sirius, "But we really do need groceries."
Remus shut the door behind him.
With a satisfied feeling resting in his chest, Sirius fell backward, onto the bed. A bird chirped from somewhere outside and sunlight streamed through the window. He rested there for a few moments before he heard a faint tapping on his window. Sirius sat up and saw an owl pecking at the window.
He knew who sent it immediately.
With a big smile on his face, he got up and walked over to the window, and undid the locks. Sirius opened the window and practically ripped the rolled-up sheet of parchment off of the bird's leg. He unrolled the parchment and read:
Dear Sirius and Remus,
I need to ask a favor. Could either or both of you watch Harry for a bit? I need to go after Wormtail.
Thanks,
Prongs
Sirius ran downstairs to tell Remus only to remember he went to go get groceries. He probably wouldn't be back for over an hour, Sirius didn't know who would be back first. He ran over the drawing-room and took a small bit of parchment and scribbled on it:
At the Potters', James needed someone to watch Harry while he went after Peter. See you soon.
He placed the parchment down on the bottom step where it was visible and went down to the garage. The car was gone, no doubt with Remus at the grocery store. He saw his motorcycle and remembered the last time he rode it, it had been months prior.
Without a second thought, Sirius put on his helmet and hopped on.

James heard a knock on the front door.
He carefully set baby Harry back down in the crib and ran downstairs. James opened the front door. Standing there was Sirius Black. James noticed his motorcycle parked on the side of the street.
"I got your letter," Sirius hugged him, "You sure you want to do this? I mean, not to sound cliche but revenge isn't always the answer."
"I have to," He heard his own voice crack slightly. How could Sirius think that James could let it go? How could he think that Peter didn't have to be brought to justice? James felt betrayed as he repeated the statement, "You know I have to."
"Alright," Sirius said, "Just be careful."
They left each other's embrace.
"Thanks," James started walking out as Sirius turned around to watch him leave.
"One more thing," Sirius called out.
"Yeah?" James turned around to face his friend.
"Don't get caught."
"Wasn't counting on it," James threw his cloak on.
Sirius wanted to help James, to call out wait and join him under the cloak but he knew he couldn't. It was something that James had to do alone. Sirius just hoped that Peter didn't set a trap.
He sighed and went inside the house, shutting the front door behind him.
xXxXxXx
James arrived in front of Peter's house. He was gripping his wand tight as he looked over his shoulder. There was nobody nearby to watch the reunion between two old friends.
He pointed his wand at Peter's front door.
"Bombar-" He got cut off.
"That won't be necessary."
James spun around. How and when did Peter get there? Had he apparated? It didn't matter. James could finally confront the traitor and that was all that mattered.
Peter and James both had their wands pointed at each other.
"So you finally came. It's been what, three days? Four days? Doesn't matter. Oh, if only you hadn't listened to Sirius when he decided to put Lily's life in my hands," Peter smirked.
"Shut up!" James had already started crying from anger and frustration, "I'm not here to hear you gloat! I'm here to kill you, avenge Lily and then go home."
"I doubt it. You can't just kill me and go home. You kill me, you go get to be locked up for the rest of your life. Maybe at least you and Sirius can get a double cell after he goes to Azkaban for killing Lily Potter under the command of the dark lord."
He started running at the traitor.
"You sick, twisted, little-!"
"Stupify!"
James got hit while running and immediately fell to the ground. He fell face first. His glasses were shattered and he could feel blood creeping out of his nose. All James could see was the pavement.
Peter flipped him over and starting dragging him inside.
He heard a faint pop. It was the familiar sound of apparation. He couldn't see who it was but only hoped that it wasn't another death eater who avoided capture by Aurors. James was dropped halfway through the door, surely Peter would want to bring James all the way inside before killing him off, right?
"Let him go, Wormtail," He heard Remus demand and remembered the waxing moon.
"How kind of you to join us, would you like some tea, I have peppermint an-" Peter got cut off.
"I don't know what brain damage or drugs happened to you but I'm not here for your peppermint tea," James heard Remus say, "Stupify, let's just get this over with."
James watched as a jet of red light hit his captor. He heard footsteps approaching and had no doubt who they were coming from.
"Revenerate," Remus stood over him, "Next time you decide to go after a maniac, give us a heads up in advance so we can plan, also, I hope you realized what you were doing when you left Sirius in charge of a baby."
Remus extended a hand towards James and he took it. After they were both standing, the pair turned to look at Peter's petrified body.
"So uhh…" James gestured at the body, "What're we gonna do about that."
"Don't worry, I have a plan," James grew slightly worried as he saw a grin slide across Remus' face.
Remus casually pointed his wand at Peter.
"Wait," James looked at the man on the ground.
Peter looked absolutely pathetic, rigid and unmoving on the ground. Was that how James had looked only a moment ago? He took off his shattered glasses considering how they weren't helping at all since his vision was refracting. Now useless, James discarded them by throwing them aside. The frames of broken glass that was once a pair of glasses landed on a nearby rug.
"I want to do it," James lifted hs own wand.
"It isn't that big of a deal but alright."
James didn't understand. There was a huge deal to him. To kill the man who betrayed him, to kill the man who killed Lily, was all he wanted. He desired revenge and revenge he shall have.
His wand was pointed at Peter and he yelled, "Avada Ka-"
Remus body-slammed into him, knocking them both onto the ground.
"What's your problem?" James yelled as he got up.
"My problem? What's your problem? Were you listening to him? He framed Sirius. If you kill him, we have no proof that Sirius isn't a death eater and no proof that he didn't kill Lily. You'll also be sent to Azkaban murder and neither of you will see the light of day again!"
James was too shocked to speak.
"We're taking him to the ministry, Levicorpus," Remus sighed, "You and Sirius really are idiots."
"We're not idiots," James retorted, "There are just some things we don't feel are important enough to waste your time with."
That was it. That was what did it. What the fuck was going through James' head? Remus' blood was boiling as he finally snapped at James.
"Not important enough? Some things?" Remus yelled, "Was the fucking fate of your family not important enough?"
"How dare you."
"How dare I what? How dare I get attacked at age five because my dad went after someone too powerful for him? How dare I not spy on you guys and find out that Peter was the secret keeper? How dare I not ask why he wore long sleeves in summer? How dare I go spy on Greyback's pack for the order? How dare I? How dare you."
With another pop Remus was gone and so was Peter.
Even though magic no longer bound him, his emotions did. He didn't move. James stood staring at the spot were Remus had just stood.
I fucked up.
Was his only thought.
I fucked up so bad.
