Chapter 6
Ari P.O.V
For the next week the five of us explored the city of San Francisco. We took in all the sites, including the Golden Gate bridge and we saw the steepest street in the world, Lombard Street, and walked up it. By the end the others had been tired out, but I was fine. I reckoned it was because of my new and improved stamina. My friends were quick to agree.
Faith, Cari and I were able to drag Paddy and Mark into a couple of clothes shops and, thankfully, even more book shops. Yes, we were book worms. Our great loves were the fantasy genre. But we all shared one common dislike, Twilight. The main character was a whiny bitch and her leading man was a depressed bastard who needed to get a life and stop moping around. And what sort of vampire sparkled? Meyer really needed to vamp up the fairies.
We bought a couple of books that day, and had the guys carry them, hey, Mark was dull enough to offer Faith. So we loaded all of them off onto him and Paddy.
On the last day before the guys went home, we all checked our emails, for our A/S results. I grinned when I saw mine. A* in history, an A in Religious Education, an A in English literature and a low C in Biology. Not too bad, but I knew what subject I'd be dropping. At least I didn't fail it, like I'd expected.
Cari got three A* and an A. Mark, Straight A's. Faith, a mix of A's and B's and Paddy got the same as faith. Those two were the only ones with a real mix of subjects though. Cari and Mark were mainly sciences, where I was mainly stuff like English, the ones with allot of writing. I was all-ways writing, I was even writing my own stories.
"So, what Uni's are you guys going to apply for?" Paddy asked.
"Swansea's one." Cari said.
"Aberystwyth." Mark said.
"Bristol." Faith said.
"Sacramento." I said.
My friends looked shocked. "You're thinking of moving over here permanently?" Cari asked.
"Maybe. Or maybe just to study, you know?"
"Well good for you!" Cari said. "Get as far away from the South Wales Valleys as possible! We all know that none of us want Valley's syndrome."
We all shuddered at the thought. Valleys syndrome was something common in people in the South Wales Valleys. It was usually inherited, and it was when people never wanted to leave the valleys. The furthest they wanted to move was to the next street, and they were happy enough to just go on the dole, when they were bright enough to make something of their lives. Allot of the time, it ended up with those affected by it in some sort of a depression. That was something none of us wanted. We'd made a pact. Get out of the South Wales Valleys, even if it was just to another part of Wales. We didn't fit in there anyway. We were the oddballs, and allot of the others there, were the chavs, that just loved to jump us.
I was determined to make the most of my life, something I couldn't do there, at least not anymore, damn Conservatives. We were going good until Margret Thatcher came into power and closed down the mines. Now, South Wales, is a wreck, especially in the smaller towns.
"Have you applied?" Mark asked.
"Online application." I answered.
"So that was what you were doing last night when we were watching films?" Paddy asked.
"Yeah, but I couldn't do it through Boondock Saints. It's just too good." I laughed. "Toilet Scene!" I said holding my hand up to get a high five from Cari.
"I think we'd better go to bed." Mark said. "Some of us have a long day ahead tomorrow."
We all said our goodnights and went to bed. Little did I know, but things were about to get a little bit interesting.
