Chapter 7

Ari P.O.V

Just before my friends left, I started to discover new abilities. The first one was the ability to shape shift into any type of cat. I found out I could do it, when I had to run back upstairs to get something I wanted to ask Cari to take home. It was only a ring, but her birthday was coming up, and I wanted her to have something, seeing as I wasn't going to be there.

I had picked up the box that held the ring, and I noticed I needed to hurry up, so I felt a shiver run down my back, and the next thing I know, I'm a clouded leopard!

Let's just say that everyone was shocked when I jumped over the banister and deposited the box at Cari's feet. It took me five minutes, and three different cat forms later, and I was back in my mutant form.

It wasn't long after that my friends left, but more discoveries of what I could do, kept cropping up. After the shape shifting, I discovered I could teleport, basically, I just wanted to be somewhere, and I was thrown from one spot, through a black space, and into where I wanted to be. Then there was telekinesis and pyrokinesis. And lastly, mind reading. It wasn't much, just surface thoughts, and if I concentrated, the thoughts just beneath.

I was walking along a darkened street late at night one Saturday evening, after leaving a book store that I'd stayed in all day, when I was pulled into an even darker alley by two pairs of arms. They rammed me up against the wall and I saw a group of seven men, all of them thinking of the same thing.

"Well, well, well." said a tall thin man. "What do we have here? One of those mutant freaks."

I struggled against the two holding me, trying to shake them off, but it wasn't any use. I growled.

"She's feisty." One of them laughed.

"I like 'em feisty." The first man said.

He started to move forward, when another growl came, but this time, from above. The men looked up, just as someone jumped down. It was Saber, and he was pissed.

Saber threw the two men holding me ten feet away, in either direction. Then he turned on the other five. Two ran, and he threw another two against the alley wall, but the last one, the one who acted like the leader, Saber grabbed by the throat.

No one lays a hand on my mate. Saber thought.

Mate? I thought, confused.

Saber had the man pinned against the wall. "Did you think you'd get away with it, human?" Saber growled.

"No! Don't kill him!" I said.

Saber looked at me startled. "Why not?"

"Because, the others know what you look like." I said shakily.

"They wont live long enough to tell." Saber said. His hand jerked and I heard a crack! The man dropped to the ground, dead. Saber killed the other four still in the alley. "Wait here." He growled at me, then he stalked off, after the other two men.

I stepped back and my back hit the wall. I slid down it until I was sitting on the floor. Dad was going to freak when he came back from his friends and heard about this. In a way, I guess I was lucky that he was gone for four days.

I heard a sound and looked up. Saber was standing over me. He reached down and grabbed both my arms, and helped me to my feet.

"Are you ok?" he asked.

"Yeah… I think." I said shakily.

"Come on." he said, whilst moving me out of the alley.

We walked for a minute until we reached his bike. "I don't know how to ride." I said.

"Just keep your arms around my waist, and whenever I lean, lean with me." he said.

I nodded and got on behind him, wrapping my arms around his waist, hoping that when the bike started moving, I wouldn't fall off. I mean, yeah, I would heal, but it would still hurt like hell.

I completely forgot my fears however, when I felt the rush I felt that came with speed. I knew there was a reason I loved rollecosters.

It was a five minute ride back, and by the time I'd gotten off the bike, I was grinning widely. I would say from ear to ear, but I don't think that it was quite that far really, not with me at least, with someone with normal ears, definitely.

"Where's your dad?" Saber asked. She is not staying there on her own. Was what he thought.

"He's out of town for a couple of days. Gone to see a friend. Don't worry, I've been in a house on my own before."

Saber looked at me sharply.

"I've kinda discovered several other abilities, limited mind reading among them." I said.

"After what just happened, I don't want you on your own." Saber said. "So, go pack something and come over to mine. You can stay with me until your dad gets back."

Something in his tone told me he wasn't going to take no for an answer. So, I nodded.

"Just come straight in." Saber said. He then walked into his house. I walked into dads and went quickly to my room. I knew that if I didn't hurry, then Saber would be over here to check on me. So, I used my telekenisis to help me pack quickly.

When I was done I ran down the stairs and out the door, remembering to re-lock the door on my way out.

When I reached Saber's, I went straight in and to the kitchen. We needed to talk. I needed to get this mate thing sorted out.
