Chapter 16

Ari P.O.V

The news that two of the upper sixth were feral mutants spread quickly. It was also quite easy for people to spot us. We quickly earned a reputation of not to be messed with, and we hadn't done a single thing to anyone, yet. Mind you, if those year eighters didn't wise up and stop annoying us, they may never be found again.

The first two days, the whole of the sixth form were able to lounge about, seeing as the office had yet to sort out our time tables. On the third day, upper sixth officially started back, and I had found my prefect badge, which really scared some o the younger kids, seeing as they loved to pester me, but I could easily chuck them in detention. My first lesson was English, something that I had a passion for. I took down all the notes in both lessons, and at the end of second lesson, I handed in a project that I had been working on for two years. Mrs. Heart had offered to take a look at it for me.

The rest of the day was boring, seeing as I only had frees, so I busied myself with surfing the internet, and talking to my friends when they had a free. I have to say, the drive home was the most fun part of the day. Some guy on a scooter tried to race me. Stupid chicken chaser didn't last two minutes.

My weeks passed in a blur, but I got very little sleep in the nights, and usually just collapsed once a fortnight out of sheer exhaustion, even talking to Vic over the web cam didn't help. I needed to be with him, I missed the comfortable warmth that only came with being held in his arms.

Christmas was coming up, and the guys and I were planning on going on to a club to celebrate, two weeks before the actual date. Vic had said that he was trying to get some spare time to come over before Christmas, but his work was keeping him busy. He never elaborated further, and I was glad of it. I knew deep down what he did, but I loved him. And anyway, what he did was important to make the world safer for us, for mutants.

The Friday night the week before we were going to the club, Cari slept over. We had a movie marathon with both the Boondock Saints movies, the first three Harry Potters, Little Nicky and Alice in Wonderland.

"Shame Faith couldn't be here." I said.

"Yeah. I hope her parents take the news well." Cari replied.

"Well, ours did."

"But not everyone's the same Tiger." She sighed. "How come our whole groups discovered we're mutants?"

"Well, we've always been the oddballs." I laughed. "Paddy's able to control anything that has an electric current, Mark's super fast and strong, and Faith sees the future. And then there's us."

"Isn't it a bit odd that people in school have actually become more accepting of us since we became mutants?"

"I know, the boys actually let me and you play Rugby with them now. I'm sure, that people are supposed to back away from us or something."

"Yeah. Hey, did you hear about that Rugby player who went to America to go on one of their talk shows?"

"No, what happened?"

"Well, he came on, and the hostess introduced him, and that he was a rugby player, and then had to say what it was. So, she basically said that it was like American football, but without the padding, and without as many breaks. Then they showed a clip of it."

"Oh! That must have had several members of the watching public's jaws drop." I laugh.

"Yeah." She was laughing with me. We both loved rugby, we were Welsh, we were supposed to. I mean, come on we were also both part Irish. So, not only were we rugby crazy, but boy could we hold our drink, and that was even before our powers surfaced.

"So, we are the only ones of our group that can heal." I said.

"It seems so. I'm going to miss them."

"Me too. We'll have each other though. No matter what. And our friends and family are going to be hanging around for several years yet. We don't have to worry about that little snag right now."

"I'm glad."

"So am I. I'm also glad that I've got you with me through all this Cari. I don't know what I'd do if I faced the prospect of losing everyone I considered my family."

"You'd still have Saber."

"But I'd have lost my parents, my sisters and my brothers, and eventually my niece too."

"I'm glad you're here too Ari. I don't even have a mate to fall back on."

"We'll find you someone."

"What are the chances of that?"

"You listen to me Cari! You are beautiful inside and out. Any man would be a fool to turn you down, you hear? Your mate is out there somewhere. We're just going to have to look."

"Thanks for being there Ari."

"What are sisters for, ay?"

"Yeah, you're right. We should probably get the next film on."

"Umm, we've run out."

"We've gone through them all already?"

"I have the new A-Team movie upstairs…"

"Go get it! I haven't seen it in ages, and I love that film!"

"Me too." I laughed, all dark topics once more pushed to the side.

I ran upstairs and grabbed the box and I stuck it in my mouth, changed into a cougar, and ran downstairs.

Cari laughed as I transformed back an popped the DVD in the player. We then settled down to watch the film with our still large supply of chocolate, homemade popcorn, sweets and drinks. We fell asleep in the living room at five in the morning, and I actually managed to sleep until nine.

Cari got up at eleven, half an hour after I had finished clearing up and my mam got up about ten minutes later.

"So, what are you girls planning on doing today?" My mam asked.

"We were planning on going swimming." I answered. "We still on for that, Cari?"

"Yeah. It's all planned." She shared a meaningful glance with my mam and I got curious. I tried looking in Cari's mind, but I only heard, 'Glory, glory, what a hell f a way to die. Glory, glory, what a hell of away to die, and he aint gonna jump no more!' Damn annoying song. Mam was singing Poker face in her mind.

I rolled my eyes. "Well, I'm going to go get ready. I'll have my breakfast when I'm done." I ran upstairs and fished out my bikini, which I put on, before throwing on a pair of jeans, a long sleeved top and a sweater. I put on a pair of socks and grabbed my bag, which already had the necessary things in it, and ran downstairs. I cleaned my teeth in the downstairs bathroom, and came out just as Cari finished her cereal. I made and ate my own while Cari was getting dressed.

When we were done, Cari and I walked the short distance to the pool, and we were greeted by our three remaining friends, who I hadn't expected to turn up. Something was going on. They were planning something.

We all went in, paid ad went to the separate changing rooms. When I was done, I was immediately pulled onto the slide.

"You go first!" Faith jumped excitedly.

"Ok." I said nervously. I walked up the steps and sat down in the water. I pushed my self over the edge, and slid down. I went down the twists and turns, and when I came out, I ended up in someone's arms. I looked up at who had caught me.

"Vic!" I gasped.
