The company receives a surprising, but wonderful shock the night they arrive in the Shire. They reunite with Lili (OC) after two years of not having seen her. (Bilbo/Thorin...OFC/Bofur)

Chapter 1: Reunited Family

It has been years since Lili has seen her family. Shortly after she had come of age, Lili moved away to lend her aid to the smallest people on Middle Earth. The Hobbits. Aside from wanting to help others, Lili felt the need to leave after her father was killed. She couldn't take the pain. She especially couldn't be around her oldest brother, Fili, as he looked so much like their father. Lili knew she looked a little like her father, but she mainly took after her mother in looks and attitude. The dams of the Durin bloodline must be as stubborn and fierce as their male counterparts in order to put up with them.

Over the years since Lili left home, and settled in the Shire having built a stone cottage, she has made good friends. Though, the hobbits she was closest to were the Baggins family and the Took family. After she had settled in the Shire, Lili had been stunned upon discovering that the Hobbits had no idea how to defend themselves or their homes. It took some time, but she was finally able to convince the head of each family to allow Lili to train them in weapons and combat.

They now had a trained military guard known as the Boarders. There were swordsmen and long-distance fighters. They still had a lot to learn, but they have come a long way from ten years back.

Lili was brought out of her thoughts when she noticed Dwalin walk by her cottage. Stunned, she opened the door...

"Dwalin..." she said, causing him to turn and look at her in stunned disbelief.

"Lili," he said, causing her to race towards him, stopping short of hugging him, as she knew he disliked beinging touched.

"May, I ask, what are you doing here in the Shire, Master Dwalin?" she asked one of her trainers, the other beinging her uncle.

"I will let your uncle explain. I am on my way to the Baggins residence," he explained.

"I am a friend of Master Baggins. I will show you the way," she said, smiling as she put two and two together, she had seen Gandalf earlier in the day walk past from a distance, towards Bag End. Lili walked around her trainer, before walking around her trainer, a Dwarrow she was proud to have trained under. She trusted him more than anyone after her family.

Bilbo turned towards the door, before deciding to let whoever it was in. Ever since the wizard had stopped by, Bilbo had known he was up to no good. Ever since Lili moved into Hobbition, Bilbo had come to expect anything and to always be prepared.

"Lili," he said, stunned that she was here this late with what appeared to be an armed escort.

"Hello, Bilbo. May we come in?" she asked.

"Yes, of course," he said, stepping aside, allowing them entry.

"I am Dwalin. At your service," he said as Bilbo led them into the dining room, with a feast spread out on the dining room table.

"I am Bilbo Baggins, at yours," he said now used to the Dwarrow greeting having known Lili for years. When Lili's brothers showed up, Lili burst into tears and ran towards them, hugging them. She hadn't known just how much she missed them until she laid her eyes upon her big brothers for the first time in years.

"Lili," they said, gripping her just as tight before they were consumed with protective rage. "What in Mahal's name are you doing with a male unsupervised?" Fili asked his little sister as Kili pulled her behind them.

"Fee, Kee. I am not alone. Master Dwalin and Balin is here. Besides, I am never alone with a male without a lady present. I am still a maiden," she promised, gripping their hands. She would never dishonor herself or her family.

"Where do you live?" Kili asked as she pulled them into the kitchen.

"You must have walked past my home. It is the stone cottage just off the river, next to a forge," she said, laughing.

Later that night, after nearly everyone had eaten, there came another knock at the door. Wanting to see her uncle, Lily raced towards the door, opening it, seeing the stunned look on Thorin's face before she leaped into his arms, causing him to spin her around.

"Lili, my dear niece. I have missed you. Your letters just aren't enough," he said, trying to keep control of his emotions.

"I was going to come home this year," she said, hoping that would comfort her uncle. The Dwarrow, who became like a father to her after hers had been killed in battle.

"I'm happy to hear it. Now, why did I see Hobbits who appeared to be armed in the trees and tall fields?" he asked. Lili wasn't surprised at the question, seeing as the Dwarrow race was trained to spot anyone who carried a weapon.

"After I settled here in the Shire, I noticed that there was no one protecting the lands or their homes, and seeing as I was trained by you and Master Dwalin, I couldn't let that continue, so I went to the heads of each family and asked to train one or two members from each family, and organize a military unit. They still have ways to go, but they are now able to hold their own against anyone who threatens them," Lili explained as they walked into the kitchen, getting approving nods from the warriors in the room. They were proud of her.

"We have taught you well," Dwalin said, causing her to smile. "Of course, you did. There was not a chance of me failing when I set my mind to something. Not with you and uncle Thorin as my trainers," she said proudly.

"Well said, Lass," Balin said before they all took notice of her weapons.

"I did not forge those weapons for you..." Thorin trailed off as he examined the swords and daggers. They were beautiful.

"No. I am now a blacksmith. The blades you had made me upon my coming of age had been broken when I was caught in a battle by a band of orcs. Well, I used those metals and the handles and made something unbreakable. I had been on a journey, and I saved Lord Elrond's twin boys. They had been elflings. Ten years before their majority. I was named elf-friend and had been offered anything I wanted. Well, I asked for anything I could craft and these are the results," Lili explained, taking her cloak off and allowing them to see her blades in more detail.

"These are stunning. Simply pieces of art, my niece," Thorin said in a proud tone of voice, causing her to stand up straight. After they had explained why they were there, and after Bilbo signed the contract with miner adjustments, Lili led her kin to her cottage. She had more than enough room, seeing as she built it with the help of the hobbits.

They didn't know it yet, but Lili had some surprises for them.
