Chapter 1: She's My Mirror Image (Rough draft which includes grammar mistakes).

When he walked into the trauma room, Alex felt like his heart was breaking into a million pieces. Meredith was his best friend. The one person he could count on. She was the one person who has never given up on him. Meredith Rose Grey was the love of his life. She was going through the loss of her husband, so Alex decided that he would be what she need him to be. That was the reason why he and Jo broke up. Jo knew Alex had been in love with Meredith long before he himself did. She hadn't wanted to live in the shadow of his love for Meredith, so they decided to split. Alex gave her the flat they purchased together. There had been no possible way that he would allow Jo to be homeless again.

When they were doing the examination on her, Alex could see that Meredith had no idea what anyone was asking of her. "Shut up! I don't think she can hear anything," Alex shouted making Jackson step forward to check her over. Turned out, she couldn't hear, and her jaw was broken. Jackson had to rebreak her jaw, and it about killed Alex at the scream that came out of Meredith's mouth. It was the most heartbreaking sound he has ever heard.

Over the course of the next week, Alex could see that Meredith was getting tired of being stuck in a hospital bed and she was missing her children. Zola and Bailey were missing their mother, but Alex nor Meredith wanted them to see her like that. It had been bad enough when they saw their father lying in a hospital bed, and him not really being there, and it was hard explaining to them why their father wasn't coming home with them ever again.

But when they did decide to let the kids see their mother, it wasn't until after her jaw was healed, hearing restored, and the bruises gone. They had been worried, but they left an hour later knowing they would see Meredith soon. It didn't take long before Alex finally told her how she felt, and he was surprised that she felt the same way, but they both knew she wasn't ready for anything more, so they decided to remain, friends, until she was ready to move on from Derek without her feeling like she was cheating on her late husband.

With everything they had endured over the years, Alex knew that Meredith was his mirror image.
