Chapter 1: The Dwobbit Lass
Angelonia was on her way to her brother's home after being gone for nearly a year. Bilbo was her half older brother. They shared a mother but had different fathers. You see, in the Shire, you could marry, but most of the relationships were polyamory. You could have more than one lover and no one said a word. That was the reason why you see so many children. On average, a hobbit matron will have three children if they stayed faithful to their chosen partner, but if she went outside of the marriage, she could have as many children as she wanted until her body changes. But that catch was, the Green Lady and the Stone Father had to bless the couple and their partners.
But Angelonia was different. The Stone Father and the Green Lady had told her, upon her coming of age, that she would have two Ones, but they didn't tell her who they were. She just knew that they were a soul split into two. They were two halves of a whole, so it would make sense that they shared a lover. Angelonia has always been different. You see, she wasn't a full-blooded hobbit lass. She was the product of a one-night stand between her mother, Belladonna, and a dwarf by the name of Thorin. Angelonia has grown up knowing who her father was. She has known him, Dis, and her cousins for years due to her mother never hiding the fact that he had a child.
Angelonia Donna Baggins only used that name in the Shire. Any other time, she used the name her father picked. Thora Sapphire. She was named after him. Not one person in the Shire or surrounding hobbit communities knew who her natural father was due to him being the King in Exile, and that is the way Belladonna and Bungo had wanted it to remain a secret even when they passed over to the Green Lady, Yavanna's garden to await their daughter when her time came.
Angelonia considered herself blessed to have had two fathers.
The only thing Angelonia had inherited from her mother was the magic connected to the Earth, animals, and of course the flawless complexion. She couldn't grow a beard like her father, but she didn't mind it. She enjoyed being different.
The differences Angelonia had from other Hobbits were she could use any kind of weapon and knew how to fight and defend, and she could also since any kind of stone and gem. She enjoyed pretty gems, but she wasn't as greedy as her kin. She mainly used them for sewing and gifts. She also knew how to forge weapons and that was how she earned a living in different locations, considering Hobbits didn't use any kind of weapon. She was also a lot taller than the other Hobbits. She was a head shorter than her father.
The reason Angelonia even knew how to fight and use weapons was due to her natural father and their family. She got to see them three to four times a year. And on occasion, she traveled to see them on the pony they had purchased for her when she came of age.
After her mother and adoptive father died, Angelonia was desperate to get out of Hobbiton and away from the painful memories of their deaths. She may have had Bilbo, but he looked so much like their papa and momma that she had to get away. She has kept in contact with her father and informed him of her parent's passing, but he had made her promise that she wouldn't attempt to travel to him. That she would wait until he sent word that he was coming to her. He wanted her to be safe and Angelonia knew that she was safest with her father and their family, so she gave him her word. But since she was an elf-friend, she has already made plans to send her most precious memories and treasures to Lord Elrond, so she wouldn't lose anything that mattered to her to the families related to the Baggins.
Luckily, she had a wagon for the sole purpose. She only came back after a year of beinging away to visit Bilbo, then she had planned to move away permanently. She loved her brother, but she needed to get away.
Anyway, Angelonia had recently received a missive from her father that he and thirteen Dwarrows' plus a wizard were going to be traveling through Hobbiton on the quest to reclaim Erebor and had asked her to have everything she needed ready so they could leave the morning after they arrived. In the missive, he had explained that he had told them about her, so they wouldn't be surprised when they arrived. Angelonia hadn't had a problem with that, in fact, she couldn't wait to meet people that know about her considering she hated keeping who and what she was a secret. She understood why her mother and papa kept it a secret, but she couldn't deny that she hated it.
She was proud of who she was, and she was tired of hiding it.
And since her father had asked her to be ready, she made sure that the trunks she had carved a few years ago were filled properly to fit everything inside, so she wouldn't forget anything. Her books, maps, the portraits of her mother and papa, both hers and her mother's glory boxes, a china set that her father had made for her on her coming of age, her papa's recipe books, her own clothing, She also packed extra traveling clothes, boots, weapons, soaps, and hair combs along with blank journals, ink, wax, and parchment.
She then placed the chest full of Yuletide decorations they had collected and made over the generations and years since she was born into the wagon. She had always celebrated Yule, and she would continue with that tradition for the rest of her days. She and Bilbo had split everything down the middle when she moved out and into a stone cottage that her father had built upon her coming of age. And since she was also friends with a few rangers, she would ask them to make sure her belongings made it to Lord Elrond, so he would be able to keep everything safe until she could send for it when everything was settled.
She also packed a few leather hair ties in case she lost the one she usually used to keep her long wavy hair out of her face. Angelonia also packed her sharpening set, a sewing kit, and a medical bag that had herbs, salves, and clean bandages. From what her father had told her about him, she knew Oin would have more, but it never hurt to have a spare kit. Lastly, her bedroll was tied to the bottom of the knapsack.
She then went down to the Green Dragon Inn to saddle up her pony, Whisper, and placed her in the fields behind Bag End, so she would be ready at a moment's notice. The amazing thing was that Angelonia had such a strong connection with the Earth and animals was that she had a mental connection with Whisper, so she would go wherever Angelonia told her to.
After she had everything ready for the trip, Angelonia made her way to her brothers, but she never expected that she would meet her Ones before seeing her father. She knew one thing, she couldn't wait until she joined the quest.
