Chapter 22
Ari P.O.V
Telling mam was… interesting. I was nervous as hell, I didn't think that she was going to be very supportive of it. But, my fears were proved wrong, when Vic and I walked into the house, and her, Zoe, James and Autumn were there waiting for us.
"I take it Ma was right then?" Zoe said, looking up from the ring on my finger.
"Who told you?" I asked mam.
"No one. But I recognised the signs Vic was giving off."
"Did only I not notice?" I asked. "You did, and even Cari and Faith guessed!"
"I was that obvious?" Vic asked.
"Yes you were. And I guessed it wouldn't be long until you asked. It was just the way you were when you're around Ari. And when she's not in the room for some reason or another, I can tell, just by looking at you."
Autumn walked over to us and pulled on my sleeve. "Aunty Ari?" she asked.
"Yes sweetie?" I smiled at her.
"When am I going to have a cousin?"
"What?" I asked surprised.
"Mammy says that when people get married, they have babies, so when am I having a baby cousin?"
"Umm, I don't know sweetie. Vic and I aren't even married yet."
"I have to wait until after the wedding?"
"Yes dear." Zoe said. She looked at me and Vic and mouthed 'Sorry'.
I shrugged at her.
Mam came over, and hugged me, and then Vic. He stiffened a little as he hugged her back, he was going to have to get used to that. Mam and Zoe would be treating him as part of the family. That included hugs. I snickered at him, but found myself caught in a bone crushing hug from my older sister, who then also moved on to Vic, to hug him. James gave me a hug, and shook Victors hand. Mam insisted that I call dad immediately, and stay on the phone for however long it took, no matter what the phone bill I racked up would be. So I called him.
"You're engaged?" He asked, double checking that he'd heard me right.
"Yes, I am."
"I wasn't expecting something like this so soon. But you're happy with him?"
"Yes dad. Very happy." I assured.
"Well, I guess that I can't complain. But you tell him, I have a hell of allot of tools that double up as murder weapons."
"I'll pass on the message dad." I said. "I'll call you at Christmas."
"Talk to you then." dad said.
Christmas came quickly, I hadn't been able to get Vic much, so I was a little worried, but he said he didn't want anything. What was it with men and not wanting anything? Mark and Paddy were the exact same!
I woke up Christmas morning, before Vic. I smiled mischievously. I worked my way out of his arms, careful not to wake him up. I stood up. I backed away from the bed as far as possible, and then took a running start. I jumped, and landed on the bed, right next to him. I laughed when I saw him start awake, and sit up sharply, expecting some sort of attack.
"Merry Christmas!" I said brightly.
He looked at me for a moment, and then laughed, shaking his head. "You are a big kid, aren't you?"
"You're only realising that now?" I asked. "I may not believe in Santa, but I still love Christmas. I am a Christian you know."
"Haven't you broken one of Christianities rules?"
"No sex outside marriage?" I asked. "Just 'cause I didn't save it until after we got married, doesn't mean I can't be a good Christian. And, didn't you propose the other day? Oh, and let's not forget, we're mates."
"You have a few good arguments in your defence. I'll admit that." Vic grinned.
I heared someone moving around downstairs, and glanced at the time. "It's seven. Ma's up already. Better go downstairs."
"You say that as if you're afraid of her."
"Ma plus Christmas, equals psycho. Come on." I got him up and we both put something on, and went downstairs.
