Chapter 29

Ari P.O.V

"The X-Men? I've heard a bit about them. Or you lot, I should say. Don't you protect humans from mutants too?" Faith asked.

"Yes, but also vice versa, and we intervene sometimes in mutant against mutant fights." The professor said.

"So you'd be willing to help us then?" Cari asked hopefully.

"Of course." Logan said. "We aren't going to let humans turn you into experiments!"

She smiled a wide smile at him, and I saw something flicker in his expression momentarily, until it disappeared. It happened so quickly that I wondered if it had been there for a second, but when I coupled it with the looks he'd been giving her all day, I really started to believe Logan had a crush of some kind on my sister.

"I'm going to get some fresh air." Faith said and she stood up.

"Don't wander to far on your own." I cautioned.

"I won't." she assured.

She left the room, and the rest of us started to discuss what we could do. The professor suggested that we book into a hotel for the time being. He said he'd pay for rooms for us at the one they were currently staying at. We agreed that it was a good idea, and thanked him for his generosity.

A shrill scream pierced the air. Several of us jumped, and Mark shot to his feet.

"Faith." He breathed.

I shot out of my seat, and ran as fast as I could, out of the committee room, and to the nearest exit that led off the school grounds.

I was followed closely by Cari and Logan, and was beaten by Mark.

As I reached the outside, I took in a deep breath through my nose. Faith had been out here for certain.

I looked around. There were new tire marks on the ground, where some sort of vehicle had skidded. I could smell the lingering exhaust fumes in the air, and the scent of several strangers, which wasn't normal for this area.

They had taken Faith. It had begun sooner than we had anticipated it to.

Mark was shaking. "They took her." He mumbled.

"We shouldn't have let her go out on her own. We knew she was first, and she was outside, and on her own when they came for her." I said. I kicked a stone, and it went flying.

Several of the school teachers had wandered out, to see what was going on. Mrs Roberts was one of them.

"What happened?" She asked.

"Someone's taken Faith!" Cari said.

I was shaking. "I don't care if he's not going to get it, I'm sending Vic an email." I said. I really needed him right now. And this was the only way I could get in touch with him.

"We'll meet you in Mrs Denver's room then." Cari said.

I nodded, and ran back inside. I ran through the corridors, and up to one of the computer rooms. I breathed out in relief when I saw no one else was using it. I went to a computer, and logged on. I loaded up the internet, and got on to MSN. I logged on and typed up a quick e mail.

Faith's been taken. Mark's next, then they'll come for me. Faith's visions told us so.

Love,

Ari.

I quickly sent it, hoping Vic would read it soon.
