Summary: After the events of the Last Battle Azalea never expected to fall in love with the one person she never thought about in a romantic sense, while she was on a vacation in Florence, Italy.
Chapter One,
The Malfoy's never expected to see Azalea Potter in Florence, Italy. They were visiting friends who had left Britain during the war with Voldemort. They hadn't wanted to be made to make a choice, considering most people would consider them Grey. They didn't care about Light or Dark. They only cared about magic.
The Malfoy's haven't been back in Britain since the war ended, as they knew everyone hated them for their choices during the war. It didn't seem to matter to anyone that their lives had been threatened. The world only saw what they wanted to see. The only ones who didn't hate them, were Azalea, her friends, Remus, Nymphadora, and the Tonks family. They were the only ones who took the time to understand why they did what they did.
They were incredibly grateful to Azalea and her family. The only thing they knew about wizarding Britain was that Azalea had finally taken up her family titles. They didn't know how many she had inherited, but they did know that she was the Lady of the Noble and Most Ancient Houses of Potter and Black.
When they saw Azalea come out of a dress shop, they were stunned. She was beautiful. During the war, Azalea didn't have time for the customs that were expected of a young witch. This young woman cleaned up well. She was no longer wearing glasses, she seemed to have taken the potion needed to help with her hair as it had a beautiful natural wave, and it seemed to have lightened to a dark brown inside of black and was now waist-length instead of shoulder-length.
She was a beautiful young woman.
"Lord Malfoy, Lady Malfoy, Draco," she greeted as she spotted them.
"Lady Potter Black," they greeted, but they were curious about what she was doing in Italy.
"May I ask what you're doing here? And without your friends, it seems," Draco asked his mate. You see, he is a veela, and has known since they were fourteen that Azalea Euphemia Potter was his mate, but because of the coming war, he couldn't do anything as he wanted to protect her.
"I'm guessing you haven't heard. I have started charities, foundations, and orphanages. I'm here working on one. My family has had a mansion here for decades, but they haven't used it at all, so I am. I'm turning it into an orphanage for magical children," she explained as they sat down inside a little café.
"That is amazing," Narcissa said as her husband and son voiced their agreement. They would never have thought about doing something like that.
"Tom, he never would have become a monster if he hadn't been raised in a muggle orphanage or sent back year after year each summer. Muggles fear what they don't understand. I know. I was raised in an unhappy home, and neglected, sometimes abused. I could have easily turned out like Tom. Thankfully, I decided to make my own family," she gave them the cliffs note version as they were out in public.
"I am so sorry. Now, I understand why you were so protective of children when we were in school," Draco said as he thought back to everything she had done for children in every house. Helped with their homework, tutored them, making sure they got medical help, she had made sure they weren't bullied, and if they had, the bullies ended up in embarrassing situations since the professors failed in their duties.
"Will you be coming back home?" she asked.
"Yes. This summer," Lucius answered, but he was wondering why.
"That's good because I have an idea for Hogwarts. I think I'm going to need your help. Neville, Andy, Remus, Ron, and Hermione are on board, but since you are a member of the Board of Governors, I think you'll be the deciding factor," Azalea said.
"What is your idea?" Draco asked.
"I can show you," she said, smiling as she leaned down and took a document out of her messenger back, handing them each a copy.
They read through them and they were amazed. They were reminded yet again, why this woman was viewed as the symbol of hope.
"You have my vote," Lucius said as his family agreed. It would help with the prejudice in their world. The only problem they had with muggleborns was that they tried to take away their traditions. Christmas in place of the Yule celebrations, Halloween in place of the Samhain celebrations.
After they finished their lunch, Azalea had errands before she opened up the orphanage later that night, so after she invited them, she went on her way. She has been in Italy for months, and she was considering living there for half of the year, and spending the other half in Britain with her family. It would be nice not to freeze every year during the Yule celebrations.
Not many people knew this about her, but Azalea has practiced the wizarding traditions and holidays since she was fourteen. Sirius had taught her, along with Remus. That had been the real reason that Ron, and she, had a falling out. It wasn't because of being selected for the Tri-Wizard Tournament, it was because she was practicing the traditions.
Thankfully, he grew up before their friendship was beyond repair.
As she was finishing up the last of her shopping, Azalea came upon a house. It was her dream house. It couldn't be considered a house. It was a Villa. She fell in love with it upon sight. It was breathtaking. It would be her home while she was in Italy. She was tired of staying in hotels. It wasted money, and she had better ways to use that money on worthwhile contributions instead of hotels and restaurants.
She loved it so much, that she purchased it that day. Azalea called Dobby and had him move her stuff from the hotel, and into her new house. She wasn't spending another night in that hotel when she had a home like this. As she went to bed that night, she couldn't help but wonder why she felt so drawn to Draco Malfoy, her schoolyard enemy. But that was for another day.
