Chapter 39
Ari P.O.V
"So, what are we going to do when they get back?" Cari asked.
"Play the look-but-don't-touch card." I answered.
Cari's nose wrinkled. "Is that such a good idea?"
"One night, and you're already hooked?" I teased. "Don't worry, we just make them think that their not going to get any tonight. Wait until they get really desperate."
"How desperate is desperate?"
"Let them loose it." I said. "When they come back, We'll leave the room, and they'll follow, then we start to play."
Cari nodded. "Cool. Sounds good."
"We'll just have to have our wits about us. They'll try any amount of things before they completely loose it."
"It's not me I'm worried about."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.
"Well, you're hooked more than I am."
I crossed my eyes at her, and poked my tongue out at her.
No P.O.V
Sabertooth let out a satisfied growl as yet another man at the facility fell under his hands. He'd killed a load of guards today. And several of the scientists.
He saw Toad start to open the cell doors, to let the mutants in them out. There weren't many, so it didn't take them long to get them all out.
He killed a few more, but then they had to go. They'd done what they'd come to do, and he had a mate who he no doubt would need to appease. And he knew how to do it too.
Ari P.O.V
Cari and I shut up as we heard someone outside the door. I transformed into a black cat, and Cari turned into a whippet. We bolted out the door, as soon as it was open wide enough.
Halfway to the stairs, we changed back, and sauntered away. We heard two sets of feet following us, and grinned.
When we got downstairs, I immediately noticed that Faith, Paddy and Mark were there.
"Guys!" the two of us chorused.
I ran over, and hugged the three of them, then I dragged Mark over to the bar area to the pool table.
I set up the game, and handed him a cue. He looked at me curiously, then shrugged, and we began to play.
During certain shots, I checked to see where Vic was, and positioned myself so that I was in front of his direct line of sight. I made sure to take my time lining up those shots.
The game went on for a while, and when we were finished, I was approached by one of the men who'd been watching from the bar.
"Wanna game?" He asked, smiling at me. I could smell the large amount of alcohol on his breath. He was pissed.
"What are the stakes?" I asked in a bored tone, letting him know that I wasn't interested in him.
"If I win, you and I go back to mine and-"
"Stop right there." I waned. "You seem like the kind of guy who has only had too much to drink, so I'm warning you, take that right back, and bet something else." I lowered my voice so that others around us wouldn't hear. "Cause believe me, you are gambling with your life here. If you win, you'd be dead, before you could even leave the table."
"Are you threatening me?" He asked.
"No, he is." I nodded to just behind the man.
He turned round, to come face to chest with Vic. He looked up, and then down, at Vic's claws. He turned back to me. "Maybe we can have a game when my wallet has a bit more cash in it."
"Probably for the best." He said, before all but running away.
I turned away from Vic, and put my cue back on the wall.
"Kitten," Vic said, coming up behind me. "Mark's told me what you're probably doing. I know your mad, but I just didn't want you getting hurt. Your friends are out aren't they? And their safe?"
"I don't like to be babied Vic!" I hissed quietly. "You know I can hold my own in a fight! Hell, you trained me! The most that could have happened is that I would have gotten shot. I would have just healed over. Not wanting me to get hurt is no excuse for stopping me from helping my friends, and taking down a few of the people who turned them and me into lab rats!"
I felt Vic place a hand on my shoulder. I shrugged it off. I wanted to be mad at him. And if I wasn't careful, I'd be angry for a shorter time period than I was hoping for. After all I wanted to test his boundaries, and I planned to do just that.
