Chapter 43
Ari P.O.V
I woke up, surrounded by warmth. I opened my eyes to see that I was curled up, and Vic was curled around me. I stayed still, listening to his slow and steady breathing, not wanting to wake him up.
Ten minutes later, I heard someone start moving round down stairs. I knew that if one of the two drunks that we'd left downstairs had gotten up, then it was time for Vic and I to get up too.
I twisted round in Vic's arms, and kissed him on his lips. It only took him half a second to respond, and kiss me back, as he woke up. I pulled away when his eyes opened.
"Morning." I said softly, smiling at him, as I twisted round to face him fully as he stretched out.
"Morning Kitten." He said as he ran a finger down my cheek. "How did you sleep?"
"Well, how about you?"
"Good, knowing that I had you safe with me."
I put my hand on his cheek, and kissed him softly. Vic pulled me as close to him as possible as he deepened the kiss. I wrapped my arms around his neck.
We were stopped from going any further, however, when the door opened and Toad came in.
"Sorry!" He said, as he took in the both of us, "I see you're already awake."
He turned and left the room, closing the door hastily behind him. I both felt and heard the growl that built up in Vic's chest.
"Calm down Vic. He didn't know."
"He should've known to not come in. We could have been doing anything."
"Exactly. He thought he was just going to be waking us up. The possibility is, my ma asked him to come wake him up. I can smell her cooking, so it's a strong possibility."
"But-"
"No 'buts' Vic. He didn't mean to walk in on us. And somewhere in there," I tapped his forehead, "you know that too. Now, I think it's time to get up. Before ma decides she's going to be a human alarm clock."
We both grudgingly climbed out of bed, both of us peeved about being interrupted, though I justified it so that Vic wouldn't do any, serious, damage to his friend. When we got dressed we headed downstairs, where Vic kept shooting glares at Mort, who avoided meeting either of us in the eyes for the whole morning. A wise move. Vic would have taken it as a challenge of some sort otherwise.
My ma also returned my engagement ring to me. We had a long chat about keeping an eye on my surroundings, after I had known that I was in a park when I'd gotten caught, from Faith, and I'd gone into a park.
My heart sunk when Mort said he'd booked him and Vic seats on a plane back to America that left tonight. So, I spent the whole time until Vic left, sitting on his lap in the living room, just taking in his comforting scent.
Before he left, he promised me that we'd meet up when I went to Xaviers for a fortnight in a couple of weeks time.
When Vic left, I felt cheated out of my time with him. If only we could have had another night together. But then again, another night would turn into yet another night, and so on.
"Ari?" Mam asked from the computer room, which was actually only a glorified cupboard under the stairs.
"Yes ma?" I asked.
"Zoe is wondering if you'll look after Autumn next Saturday?"
"Yeah, sure. If you lend me your car, I'll take her out somewhere."
"Alright then. I'll tell her."
There was a moment where nothing was said, all that could be heard was the T.V and ma typing on the key board.
"She says that Autumn is wondering if you could take her to Folly Farm."
"No problem." I replied.
And with that, one of my days was taken up, and hopefully, looking after my niece would take my mind off not being with Vic.
