Chapter 55
Ari P.O.V
"Escaped? How? When?" I asked.
"We found her cell empty this morning. The cameras went down in the early hours of the morning, and several guards were found unconscious with burns from being electrocuted. Her cell door had been left unlocked. It looks like she had someone on the inside." One of the officers explained.
"You found out this morning?" Victor asked.
"Yes, we did."
"Then why weren't we told earlier? Maybe I should refresh your memory for you, she went looking for Arianwen with a gun, with every intent of trying to kill her, and she did succeed in killing our unborn cub. So why weren't we informed earlier?" Victor growled.
"A search has been started up to locate her. We were just told to come and inform you. If you want, we can have a car placed outside…" the other officer answered.
Victor growled. "Don't bother. I can take care of this. She even comes into the town, I'll bring her down."
The younger of the two looked like he was about to protest, when his counterpart nudged him. "I understand. Let me guess, we won't find her?"
"Not for a very long time." Victor said.
The younger officer looked confused. The older one saw it. "He's a member of the Brotherhood." He said.
The younger one had a look on his face that said he understood. It wasn't long after that, that the two left. I sat down on the sofa, and started to massage my forehead. "Why couldn't she have just stayed in her cell?" I asked.
"Don't worry Kitten. She'll be found." Victor said as he sat down beside me. Mam could see that I needed a moment with Victor, so she left the room.
Victor sat down beside me, and pulled me into his side. "She'll be found, and she'll be dealt with. I promise. I'm going to make a call later, and there will be other Brotherhood mutants on it as well."
"When you find her, what are you going to do?" I asked.
"Make sure she pays for our cubs death." Victor answered.
Edith may as well be as good as dead already. I thought to myself. I curled into his side. "And I thought things were getting better. Why does she have to ruin a good day?"
"Because she's a bitch." Victor answered simply. "What was so good about today Kitten?" he asked.
I pulled away, and leaned over the side of the sofa and grabbed my backpack. I opened it up, and pulled out the pile of papers, and handed it to him.
"I've been working on that book for two years. My English teachers have both read it, and they say it's good enough to go to the publishers with." I said.
"Mind if I read it Kitten?" He asked.
"Go ahead Vic. I could do with a… fifth opinion."
"You said your teachers read it. You only have two, don't you?"
"Yeah well, mam, Zoe and Cari all read it while it was a work in progress. I gave it to them, chapter by chapter."
"How come I never knew about this before?" he asked, smiling at me.
I shrugged. "I guess I just never thought enough of it to mention it." I said.
Victor read the short prologue. "This is good. You could have told me that you enjoyed writing. What else haven't you told me that you enjoy doing?"
"Well… Nah, never mind."
"Oh, come on kitten."
"No. You'll laugh." I said.
"I promise, I won't laugh." He said.
I huffed. "Fine. I enjoy gardening."
"Gardening?" He asked.
"Yeah, you know, taking care of the garden, getting rid of weeds, planting flowers, etcetera." I said.
"Well, if you enjoy it kitten, then I'll make sure that I get you a place with a garden."
I grumbled about not wanting him to spend to much on me when I moved to Sacramento. Victor just chuckled, and tightened his arm around my waist. "I'll buy you whatever priced apartment I think will be best for you kitten." he said softly. "Now, I have to make a couple of calls. You'd best call your friends." He said. He kissed me on the forehead and stood up. He walked out of the living room, and I heard the front door close. I then pulled out my mobile phone. I needed to call Zoe, and my friends.
No P.O.V
Victor pulled out his phone, and called Mort. He picked up after the fourth ring.
"Hey Sabes. How's Tiger?"
"She's getting better. She's not blaming herself so much now. But we have a problem."
"What's up?" Mort asked.
"The police arrested Edith, but she's escaped."
"You want to find her before the police do."
"We both know that the humans perception of justice just isn't up to the job Mort. I'm going to deal out justice my own way."
"You going to find her, drag her to a secluded spot and torture her to a slow death, or what?"
"Not this time. I'm going to find her, lock her up somewhere where she can't see the light, and has very little food, for several weeks, and then I'm going to drag it out over several weeks."
"Let me guess, you want her locked up here?"
"Well, we have the facilities to do it. And no one who we don't want asking questions will come looking."
"About the little amount of food thing, I know you like 'em to scream, and she won't if she's too malnourished."
"Fine, give her enough to stop her from passing out in hunger, but no more Mort. I want her wishing she'd never messed with my mate before I even get started on her."
"You want a plane ready to ship her here?" Mort asked.
"Yes Mort. I wont take long tracking her down." Victor said. "And there are two Brotherhood mutants on the police force here. Ones new by the looks of him, but I recognise the other. They'll direct the investigation away, giving me more opportunities."
"You'd better hope Magneto's alright with this." Mort said.
"I'll deal with Magneto, if he has any problems with the plan Mort. Arianwen may as well be a member of the Brotherhood as is."
"You're right there. And we look after our own."
"That we do Mort. Now, I'd better call Magneto. Fill him in on the plan."
Mort chuckled. "Yeah. You better had. He won't like you keeping him out of the loop."
"See you around Mort."
"See ya Sabes." He said.
Victor hung up, and then called Magneto.
"Sabertooth, I would have thought you wouldn't have called for at least another few days." Magneto greeted.
"Yeah, well, I'll be sending someone to Genosia in a couple of days. Mort knows the conditions to keep her in."
"Let me guess, you'll be tracking down the girl who shot Arianwen, and it's her you'll be sending?"
"Yes. I'll deal with her when I come back. I just don't want to be interrupted by some frail. Genosia's one of the only places that I can do that."
"That's fine. But don't you think her talents might be better used before you deal with her?"
Victor growled. "She killed my unborn cub, Magneto, while she was attempting to kill my mate. She's not going to live to see next year. I'm sure you can find someone else who shoots bolts of electricity out of their hands, someone whose not going to sell us out if they think its profitable for them. And I'm pretty sure Arianwen wouldn't be willing to be a Brotherhood member if Edith was. On that point; neither would I."
Magneto was silent for a while. Victor knew that would get him. Arianwen was far more powerful than Edith, and would be far more useful to the Brotherhood than she would. Magneto wouldn't risk loosing someone of Arianwen's power for someone of Edith's.
"We'll just keep her in a holding cell then." Magneto said after a few moments.
"I'll call ahead when I've caught her." Victor said, and with that, he hung up, and headed back inside.
Arianwen had just hung up her own mobile when he came in. She looked up at him, and smiled slightly. "That's everyone. They all know that Edith's on the loose."
Victor nodded as he sat down, and pulled her onto his lap. "I'm going to leave early tomorrow morning, and start looking for her. I won't be back till I find her kitten, but I'll call to check in, alright?"
She nodded. "Just hit her for me."
"I will Kitten. Several times. The Brotherhood's got a plane that their sending. When I get her, I'll stick her on it. It'll take her straight to Genosia. They'll keep her contained until I go back. Then I'll deal with her."
Arianwen nodded, and closed her eyes, resting her head on his chest. Victor lowered his head, and inhaled her scent, and drew her closer, intent on keeping her safe.
