Chapter 73: Here's What's Happening

Today, Derek was working at the practice with Owen while Meredith decided to visit William's grave. She bought him a beautiful assortment of flowers. Meredith set the flowers around his gravestone in sat down Indian style on the grass.

"Hey William, it's me Meredith. Well, you know that. Geez… I'm such an idiot. You know, if I haven't told you this before…I am going to now… William, I have always looked at you as a father and I want you to know, I love you." Meredith said with tears in her eyes.

Anyways, I know it's been a while since I came last, but I wanted to update you with what has happened lately…

Three months passed since Meredith uncomfortably met Derek's family. Things for the couple were going absolutely amazing. Every free moment the couple had from the practice, they were either on a date or in bed, loving each other. Even when Derek was nervous to tell her about "Mitch" and the video, which she wasn't mad about at all, it only fueled her love and intensity for Derek. So, the two decided to track him down.

Meredith thought that she couldn't get any closer to Derek than she did on the night of their reunion. She was wrong and couldn't be happier.

Flashback

It had been a week since Meredith told Derek's mom her whole truth. Carolyn later spoke with Mark, Addison, and Amelia, saying, "let her tell you her story when she is ready. She is perfect for Derek!" In the end, the day before they left, Meredith told his family her story and they were very accepting of it.

Before they left, Carolyn and Derek had a private talk…

"Derek, you were right son. Meredith and I had pleasant conversations and we've all spent time together. I see why and how you love her!" Carolyn said, beaming.

"Mom, I love her more than life itself." Derek pleads.

"Derek, I can clearly see that you love her and vice versa. This is why I want you to have this…" Carolyn handed Derek her engagement ring that she received from his father.

"Ma… this is the ring Dad gave you; I can't take that from you." Derek said, shocked.

"Nonsense son, I've seen the way that the two of you look at each other and I know this is right. I want her to have it!" Carolyn assured him.

"Thank you, Ma," Derek cried.

Derek knew before he proposed to Meredith that he needed to tell her about "Mitch" being on the video. Therefore, giving her the opportunity and chance to do what she wanted or needed. He just hoped it didn't backfire and destroy the foundation that the two of them built.

It had been two weeks since his family left, everything was perfect, they were closer then ever. However, Derek was a ball of nerves. After talking to his mom about the situation, he knew it was time to tell the love of his life and he was petrified. He knew it was now or never.

Meredith was curled up in their bed wearing Derek's pajamas, so Derek decided to curl up next to her… "Mer, can we talk?" Derek said, nervously.

"Yeah Der, what's up?" Meredith said assuring

"There is something I need to tell you—but I am terrified it will set us back. We have come so far, and I am afraid that this may shatter you completely. Also… I know what you are thinking, and I would never cheat on you… EVER!" Derek rambled.

"What is it, Der?" Meredith said, shaking

"A week before I came back to Rachel, my family… my family… was at the house watching…"

"Derek…" Meredith said with an arched eyebrow.

They were watching… your… surgery tapes. Please don't look at me like that… I was livid; I asked Amelia how she got these tapes and she said…Helen…but one of the tapes weren't a surgical tape.

"What?" Meredith said with tears in her eyes.

"Yes, I know… Hear me out, okay?" Derek tried to calm her.

"Okay…"

"So, you were doing some promotional video for Mount Sinai…

"Continue…" Meredith said quizzically.

"You went on a break, but… the camera was still rolling. You were talking about "Mitch" and things. Then, he showed up in the camera… Do you understand what I am telling you?" Derek questioned.

"He… He… was on camera this whole time." Meredith said confused.

"Yes, I immediately went to Helen and showed her. We both desperately wanted to tell you. We want to get this bastard Mer. Now, we can!"

"Do you think we could really get him?"

"Absolutely, however, we would need to go to New York, tell the FBI your story, and give them the video. All we need to do is tell the story one last time…"

"You said we…" Meredith said, stunned.

"Of course, you really didn't think I was going to let you do this alone, did you?" Derek asked.

"Well, if we are going to do this, we need to do this now…" Meredith said nervously.

Meredith was shocked that she herself was so open about going back to New York in hopes of tracking down "Mitch." Deep down though, she knew that if she wanted a positive and happy future with Derek that this had to happen. Thankfully, with Derek by her side, Meredith knew that she could do anything.

Meredith and Derek spoke with Owen as well as Izzie about managing the practice themselves while they took care of issues in New York. The two of them chose not to go into specifics about the trip; however, they assured their friends not to worry.

While in New York, Meredith and Derek stayed in his apartment so Meredith wasn't triggered by staying in hers. The night after arriving in the city the couple spoke with a Federal Bureau of Investigation's agent.

"Yes, we are here to speak with Agent Roberts about the opened pharmaceutical medication scandal. I am Doctor Meredith Grey, and this is my colleague Doctor Derek Shepherd. We have some new information that he needs to see." Meredith said confidently, but full of nerves.

"Agent Roberts will be out in a moment; however, the two of you will need to go in separately." The secretary snubbed Meredith.

"Yeah, that isn't happening, I will just have to speak with Agent Roberts myself then." Meredith rolled her eyes and scoffed.

Agent Roberts stepped out in his black suit with his matching tie. He stopped dead in his tracks… is this really who he thinks it is? Meredith Grey? From the biggest case of his career that he has yet to solve? Agent Robert still works tirelessly to solve the biggest case of his career, not only because it will promote him, but because he felt sorry for this young girl… her whole career was ripped from under her.

"Dr. Grey… I really thought I had seen the last of you…" Agent Roberts said, shocked.

"Please… call me Meredith." Meredith said kindly.

"If I must call you Meredith, you shall call me John."

"Well John, is it possible that my colleague, Dr. Shepherd, and I can speak with you alone, but as a pair?" Meredith asked, smiling.

"Of course, right this way Doctors." John led them to his office.

Derek and Meredith explained while going through her surgical tapes inventory, she and him found a video of "Mitch's" face. Meredith apologized profusely and said that she didn't know that the camera was recording; thus, leading to "Mitch" being on video (she didn't want to bring Derek's family into this in case it got ugly).

"You mean… he's… he's on video?" Roberts asked.

"Yes…he is." Meredith said shyly and handing Roberts the DVD, Derek squeezing her hand to show support.

Roberts played the video, watched, and listened intently.

Mitch walked into the hospital to surprise Meredith, "Hey, what are you doing here?" she grinned at him as he walked up.

"Came to see if I can take my girl home already," he replied flirtatiously though his eyes anxiously darted to the camera. "Am I interrupting? Are you still filming?"

"No, we're having a break," Helen answered and quickly decided to leave the pair alone. "I'll leave you to it but Mer, you owe me," she winked at her best friend.

"So, you have to stay a bit longer," Meredith snorted as she put her arms around Mitch's neck, his own moving to encircle her waist. "But you can still take me… here…"

"Mhmm… sounds good baby. Unfortunately, you're still working, or I would." Mitch said, flirting.

Roberts stopped the video and smiled, "we have you now asswipe."

"Meredith, don't worry, we are going to serve this prick on a silver platter to the prison, I just need you to tell me your story one last time while I audio record it. Dr. Shepherd can even stay with you; however, he must stay silent. I'm sorry, but it has to be done."

"Okay…" Meredith said, shaking in her seat.

"Meredith, we have him, I promise!" Roberts said affirmatively.

Meredith retold her story with more confidence as Derek was by her side. From start to finish, with the added information about the surgical tapes, Derek was next to her, holding her hand. Meredith was so relieved.

It had been four days since their visit with agent Roberts. Meredith and Derek were sitting in the living room of Derek's mother's house, watching a soap opera when an emergency alert from the news came across the screen, "Serial Spy and Con-artist Caught."

"… Shit!" Meredith yelled.

"Ma! Amelia!" Derek yelled.

"What?! I am coming kids; I can't run like I used to… I am hobbling as fast as I can." Carolyn said.

Amelia comes running down the stairs out of breath, "do you guys see it?"

Everyone was now sitting in the living room, all listening intently.

"FBI's most wanted, for espionage, extortion and stealing. Alejandro Nathan Ruiz, or commonly known as Diego, Kyle, Leo, or Mitch was arrested in Tampa Bay Florida last night. Ruiz was arrested for spying, stealing, and extorting many individuals for their inventions, medications, businesses, etc…

Ruiz is being apprehended and taken to the Florida State Prison due to its maximum security.

Those affected by Ruiz; the community deeply apologizes to you, and we hope you can live in peace. The news reporter states.

"Roberts did it… he did it… Meredith cried happily.

"We got him Mer…" Derek kissed her head.

"We did… Thank you… I couldn't have done this without you!" Meredith kissed him passionately.

"Anything for you my love…"

The two kiss soundly when suddenly Meredith pulled back, "I'm not scared anymore; I want you to meet my dad before we go home."

"Okay…" Derek smiled.
