Chapter 65
Ari P.O.V
I hated exams. With a burning passion, I hated them. I collapsed on the sofa the minute I walked in the door from the History exam. My mind had left the building. I couldn't recall even the simplest piece of information after that exam.
The phone rang. I dragged my self up, and answered it. "Yeah?"
"How'd it go?" Mam's voice asked.
I made a non committal noise, and sat back down.
"Let me guess; your mind's gone?"
"Yep."
"Then I'll leave you sleep. See you when I finish work honey."
"By ma." I said, before I hung up, kicked off my shoes, and lay down on the sofa. Liora jumped up beside me on the sofa, mewing. I started to scratch behind her ears, and she curled up beside me.
I grabbed the remote, and turned on the telly. I flicked through, before settling on Vicar Of Dibley reruns, and I settled down to just doze and watch some good old fashioned comedy.
By the time Mam got back from work, I'd woken back up some what. I stretched, and gave her a hug.
"Well, now you are a little more coherent, how was it?" Mam asked.
I huffed. "To be honest Ma, there was so much to remember at the time, that I just cant remember what I wrote, or if I even made sense."
"Did you write a lot?"
"Yep."
"Then hopefully what you put down will earn you the grades you need. At least you only have your one English exam left."
I groaned. "I wish I didn't have too. I wish I'd past the last one."
"It's not your fault you lost revision time due to ending up in that facility." Mam said. "Now, go read over those poems of yours."
I groaned, but did as told. I wanted to pass. I went up to my room, and began looking over all the different poems we needed to remember, and reading through scenes of Richard the First, and Edward the First.
By the time my exams were finally over, I felt like a walking wreck. My muscles were tense, and I was prone to waking up in the middle of the night with nightmares about failing all my exams. The night after Cari's final exam, which was the last exam for all of us, we went out to see a film and then go out for food after, to celebrate.
We took Cari's car, and went to see the film Thor. It was good fun, and something we all enjoyed. We couldn't go see it in three D though. Those glasses played hell with me. Then we went to an eat all you want oriental buffet that was underground. It was the first time we had all gotten together since my birthday, and we caught each other up on what we missed.
"I can fly now." Paddy said. "Like Superman. I may build myself a pair of wings mind, just for a laugh, you know."
"That would be awesome!" I laughed with him. The others agreed.
"Well, I can project a shield." Mark said.
"Really?" Cari asked.
"Yeah. And I've decided, I'm not going to Uni." He said.
"What will you do?" Paddy asked.
"Go into the Army. I'm thinking the Welsh Guard. They accept mutants."
"Well, if it's what you want to do, go for it." Faith said. "But I'm going to worry."
"We all will. But we'll support you." I said.
"Definitely." Cari nodded.
"Why wouldn't we? Oh God. I've Just had an awful thought." Paddy said.
"What?" Cari asked.
"Mark with a gun!"
"Aww, that's nothing. You know I've already stabbed my brother. Well… he was asking for it. Literally."
We all laughed as we remembered Mark coming in with his younger brother limping behind him that Monday morning, a few years ago. I stood up, and went to get some more food.
At the sushi counter, I saw someone I hadn't seen since year seven. Lucinda Jacobs. I grinned. We'd been really good friends in primary, but had just drifted apart, having gone to different schools.
"Lucinda?" I asked, just to make sure.
She turned to face me, and her eyebrows shot up in shock. "Arianwen? Ari Evans?"
"That's right." I said, laughing. "It's so good to see you!"
"You too! Look at you! You've changed! How long have you been a mutant?" She asked.
"Close to a year now." I laughed, hugging my old friend. "And that's not all." I said, holding up my left hand, displaying my ring.
She looked at it and squeeled. "You're engaged! To who? What's he like?"
"He's wonderful. A feral, like me, but without the eyes, ears and tail, but he's still feline. His name's Victor Creed. So, how have you been?"
"Great. I've recently discovered my own mutation."
"Oh? What do you do?" I asked.
"I can actually conjure electric bolts, and I grew wings." She answered.
"Electricity?" I asked weakly, remembering Edith.
"Yeah. What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost."
"It's just… you remember Edith. I introduced you, right?"
"Yeah, why?" Lucinda asked, her blonde curls bouncing as she nodded.
"Well, she could do that too, she… shot me."
"What?" Lucinda asked. "Were you alright?"
"I healed, perks of my ability and all that. But…"
"But what, Ari?"
"I was pregnant."
Lucinda's eyes filled with pity. I shook my head. "Don't. Don't pity me. I don't need it. I'm getting better now. Everyone helped me through it."
"What happened to Edith?" Lucinda asked.
"Vic… dealt with her. He sent her of to the Brotherhood of mutants, to sort it out when he went back. He's been gone for a few weeks now. There's no need to guess what he's done. He would have left his beast out. Or it would have forced it's way out."
Lucinda nodded. Most mutants knew what Ferals were like. "We should get together at some point." she said.
"Yeah." I said. "Look, come with me to my table, and I'll introduce you to everyone, and I'll write down my number and you can give me yours, and we can arrange a date to catch up."
"Alright." Lucinda nodded, smiling. We both finished collecting a plateful of food, and we walked back to the table me and the guys were at.
