Chapter 66
Ari P.O.V
Lucinda quickly became a member of our little group. Her and Paddy got on like a house on fire. I think they liked each other, and their powers were so similar. Cari, Faith, Mark and I took it upon ourselves to set them up.
So Cari arranged a girls day out, and Mark arranged for him and Paddy to go out for a pub crawl. We were going to try and get them to admit their feelings, and then pluck up the courage to do something about it.
Cari, Faith and I decided on the pretence of going out to shop for some things that would make my apartment feel like my own space. We were going to do that, but our main object was to start our plan to get Paddy and Luce together.
We went to Cardiff for the shopping, and took mams car to get there. Once we'd found a parking space, we set off. The girls helped me pick out loads of different things to go in my apartment, including a tribal style mask and a Victoria Francis painting, titled 'Lamenting Angel'. All through the day, Cari, Faith and I would drop casual comments about Paddy, and gauge Luce's reaction. They were promising ones.
We stopped in the Hard Rock Café for lunch. That's when we began the real questioning.
"So, do you like Paddy, Luce?" I asked.
"I don't know what you mean." She replied.
"Yes you do. Tell us, what do you think of him?" Cari persisted.
"Well… he's very nice. I doubt he'd go for me though."
"Why not?" Faith asked.
"Because… well, I don't think he'd like me that way, is all."
"Well, we thinks he likes you right back." Faith said.
"Definitely." Cari agreed, nodding.
"You're sure?" Luce asked.
"Of course we are." I began.
"We should be, after all, he is one of our best friends." Cari added.
"Has been for ages." We both finished together.
Luce and Faith began laughing at us, just as the food reached us. We all just had a laugh at dinner, exchanging stories. Soon, Luce turned questions about love life back on me and Cari.
"So, what's it like being with a couple of Ferals? What's the best part?"
Cari and I exchanged a look. "The stamina." we said together, causing Faith and Luce to start laughing again.
"Seriously, what's it like?" Luce asked again.
"In away, it's like any other relationship, but there's something else." Cari said.
"Like what?" Faith asked. She hadn't really enquired like his before.
"It's as if there's a new level to the relationship almost." I said. "Our inner beasts recognise each other. They have since the start. Vic's recognised me the moment he caught hold of my scent. It took me a while. Probably because he left the day I woke up as a Feral, but the day he came back, well…" I moved the neck of the turtleneck jumper I was wearing, revealing the mark. "Our beasts make it different. It's for life. I cant think about anyone like that. It just seems wrong. Deep inside, something just clicked when we were together."
"It's the same for Logan and I. It clicked into place when we were together, and whatever it was, tied us together."
Faith's and Luce's eyes were wide. "Wow. That was…" Luce started.
"Deep?" Faith suggested.
"Yeah." Luce nodded.
"Other than that, they're normal guys in a relationship." I said.
"Yep. Logan can get really over protective. Hell, with the facility incident, he locked me in the room! And Victor locked Ari in theirs too!"
"Let's not forget possessive. But not in the sense that Vic doesn't like me hanging out with Mark and Paddy. Anyone makes a move on me, he makes sure they know I'm his."
"Logan really hasn't had the chance to do that yet." Cari said. "But I have no doubt that he will soon."
"Probably." I agreed.
Two days later, Paddy and Luce got together. Luce was over mine, when she told me. "Paddy asked me out." She said.
"Really?" I asked. "What did you say?"
"I said yes." She replied, grinning like a maniac. We talked for a bit, until she broached a subject I hadn't expected.
"Ari, I need to get in touch with the Brotherhood of Mutants, and you are the only person I know with connections."
"Why do you need to contact the Brotherhood?" I asked.
"I need to know there's somewhere safe for me to go. My parents… they don't know I'm a mutant. They hate mutants. I… I want to join the Brotherhood to help find a place for us. Even though the majority of people in Wales are accepting of mutants, Wales is only small. I want to help humanity on a whole accept us."
"I understand." I said nodding. "I'll talk to Victor. You just hold on with your parents. Don't let them know."
She nodded, and I hugged her, tightly in reassurance. I hoped that everything would be fine for her.
