Chapter 69

Ari P.O.V

Luce, Paddy, Faith, Mark and I were in a pub, waiting for Cari. She and Logan were meant to be here by now. We were already halfway through our first round of drinks. Paddy, Mark and I all had a Guinness, while Faith had a WKD and Luce had a Strong Bow.

"Starting without us?" Cari's voice asked. We all looked up to see her and Logan.

"Well, we couldn't very well sit here, and drink nothing, could we?" Mark asked. "That would be rude. Sit down mun. Or go get a drink. Here, first rounds on me." He slapped some money on the table. Cari picked it up, and looked at Logan.

"What do you want?" she asked.

"Just get me a beer." Logan said.

"Right." Cari said. She glanced at our drinks. "Thank God you didn't start on the strong stuff." Then she walked off, leaving Logan to sit down.

"Tigris, you up for a drinking contest later?" Mark asked. I snorted.

"How many bloody times do I have to drink you under the table until you understand that you just can't beat me? My healing factor mean's I'd probably have to drink half of the alcohol in this place to get anywhere near drunk?"

"I swear I will beat you this time! I'd even be prepared to bet you a tenner on it."

"May as well hand the money over now." Logan snorted. "She'll beat you hands down. Just like she did after the facility."

"Yeah, and then I'll have to drag you back to a bed just like that time too." I said.

Mark wagged his eyebrows, and I kicked him in the shin, making him wince. "Get your head out of the gutter, Mark!" I said. "And be glad it was only your shin."

Over the rowdy chatter of the other punters, I heard him gulp, and cross his legs. He fully got the message.

"Look, I'm sure I can beat you. In fact, I'm so sure that I'd be willing to not only challenge you, but Cari as well!"

"Challenge me to what?" Cari asked, putting her Bacardi Breezer and Logan's bottle of Budweiser on the table, before sitting down. Logan wrapped an arm round her waist. He kissed her on the temple. "He's sure he can beat you and Ari in a drinking contest, darlin'."

Cari snorted, and started to cackle madly. I joined in. I saw Paddy shrink back.

"Oh God, Bellatrix LeStrange's possessed them both!" He joked in mock horror, only causing us to laugh harder.

"What, surely you don't think I'm a light weight?" Mark asked.

"N-No, we don't think it's that, Mark." I said, calming down. "Our mutation is healing. Before the alcohol could even make us tipsy, it would burn out."

"Meaning we just don't get drunk." Cari added. "Sorry Mark, but unless you get a healing factor, you don't stand a chance."

"Damn." He muttered. "I still want that contest mind."

"Fine." I said, throwing my hands up in a gesture of surrender. "We'll get in the shots of Absinth later. We'll have a couple of rounds first mind."

Mark nodded in understanding. If we didn't, then we wouldn't get much of a night out, needing to take Mark home after he passed out from the competition. Yet again, we could always leave him under the table until we wanted to go. Soon enough though, Paddy and Mark were interrogating Logan, an opportunity they didn't get the last time, to see if he was suitable for 'their little sister'. Let's just say that Mark very nearly didn't get to the drinking contest as Cari was very close to hitting him.

Mark was on his last shot when a group of guys decided to get rowdy. They started to try and hit on the women closest to them.

"I'm staying away from them." Cari said. "One of them is a known perv when he's sober."

"Who?" I asked, craning my neck. And then I saw him. Rodger Edwards. He went to school with us up till the end of year eleven. He then left to get work as something or other. He'd probably been through several jobs already. "Oh, shit, he's coming over." I said.

"I swear, if he tries anything, I will punch him." Cari said. "I had enough of that jerk in school."

"You aint the only one." Paddy said.

"No body look at him." Mark said. "He may not notice us."

"Why did Logan have to choose now to go to the loo?" Cari groaned.

"Scared?" I joked.

"No. I just want a nice peaceful night. Is that too much to ask for?"

"Hey babe." Someone slurred. We all looked up to see Rodger. He was staring at Cari's breasts.

"Oi! Stop eye fucking me prick!" Cari said. I turned back to my glass of whisky, which I hadn't touched since we started the drinking contest, but I continued to watch from the corner of my eye.

"What did you call me, bitch?"

"A prick." Cari drawled, standing up.

Then, Rodger made a fatal mistake. He tried to grab one of Cari's breasts. She pulled her fist back, and decked him. Hard. He fell into another punter, and a bar fight began. It wasn't long before we had to join in to stop from being hurt. I heard a crackle of electricity, and turned to see a man go down as Faith pulled her taser away as she kicked the mans friend in the balls.

Cari and I were against a wine rack, fighting off two attackers. We looked at each other, and grinned, before reaching behind us, and grabbing two bottles of wine each. We brought them smashing down onto the two men's heads, and they collapsed.

"Go Murphy." I chanted, in reference to Murphy MacManus in Boondock Saints.

We managed to all group back together, and soon Logan was with us too. All of us managed to fight our way outside. Once we were in the cool night air, I sighed. "Well, at least that place doesn't have CCTV."

Luce, Mark, Paddy, Faith and Cari laughed. Logan looked confused.

"Tell you later." Cari said.

"I think it's time to call it a night." Luce said. We all nodded in agreement.
