Dani Vertiz said, "Frank, you should see this." She indicated one of her monitor screens, which showed several stills of Blackgranite's van when it was parked by Marcus Garvey Park last dusk.

Reflections on the windshield largely obscured what was inside, but in each still the passenger side visor was visible — all the way down. Below the visor were reflections of trees and sky, all the same at first glance but Frank's eye noticed subtle differences from frame to frame.

"Infrared enhancement," Dani said. "Now watch that windshield." With a few keyboard taps, most of the frames vanished and the remaining one became a moving picture, with cars driving past.

And in the van's passenger side, faintly but discernibly, someone was moving. The face was obscured, but limbs were visible.

Frank turned to Kevin. "Our boy had a passenger."

"Maybe even a wife," Kevin replied.

Turning to the Chief, Frank said, "A few more questions for Cloutier before we leave."
