Chapter 83
Ari P.O.V
Things were hectic as the wedding came closer. There were last minute meetings with the priest, Photographer and caterers to attend, and of course meetings with the manager of the hotel we'd have the party at. The wedding was going to be on a Saturday afternoon. There was something about the date that was bugging me though.
I was sitting with Victor in a café we'd headed to for lunch one day when it came to me. "That's it!" I said, clicking my fingers together.
"That's what, Kitten?" Victor asked.
"The day of the wedding! It's exactly a year after my interview at Sacramento University!"
He thought about it for a moment. "So it is." He said. "A year to the day we admitted our feelings to each other."
"I can't believe I didn't notice that before." I said.
"Kitten, it's an easy thing to do, not notice the dates." Victor said, taking my hand in his.
"I know, but something about the date of the wedding was really bugging me, and now I know what it was." I said, smiling.
"Well, that's one less thing for you to worry about, Kitten." he said softly. "Come on, let's go. Otherwise, we'll be late for that movie."
"Yeah." I said.
We stood, paid for the food and then left.
The day of the wedding came round quicker than I expected it to, and before I knew it, it was the night before, and mam was driving Victor out the house on the principle that the groom never sees the bride from the night before the wedding, up until the ceremony.
"Ma! I don't see how it's bad luck!" I said.
"Well, it's tradition. This is one tradition to keep up." Mam insisted, and she ushered Victor out the door. It was quite a funny sight, seeing my feral giant of a mate being chased out of the house by my much shorter mother. I would have laughed, had it not meant that I wasn't going to see Victor until tomorrow afternoon. I gave him a long kiss, before he left.
"A promise of what's to come tomorrow night." I said softly in his ear, as I hugged him, grinding my hips against him. "Just remember, the next time we see each other, I'll be about to become Mrs. Arianwen Creed."
He growled lightly in response. "I can't wait." He said. "I'll see you tomorrow afternoon, Kitten."
"Yeah." I said. "I'll see you then. Now, go before Ma gets antsy."
"Right." He said, before kissing me deeply once more, and climbing on his bike, and heading off.
I headed back into the house, and sat down. "You had to chuck him out, didn't you?" I asked.
"Yep." Mam said. There was a nock on the door, and Cari, Luce, Faith, Zoe, Autumn and a couple of my Aunts turned up.
"What the?" I asked.
"We decided to give you a good send off." Faith said.
"I aint dying." I said.
"It's your last night of freedom!" Luce said.
I exchanged a look with Cari that clearly told her that my 'last night of freedom' as Faith put it, had been over a year ago- the night before Victor had claimed me as his, but I went along with it. I hadn't had a hen party, so I guessed that this was the closest I'd get to one. Not that I was too fussed on the idea of a hen party.
"How did you manage to shake Logan?" Faith asked Cari.
"I told him that it was the job of the best man to keep the groom in check, and as the maid of honour I had to look after the bride, so here I am. Alone." Cari answered.
"I wonder what they're up to?" I mused aloud.
"Oh no you don't!" Zoe said. "You don't start wondering what your man is up to, otherwise it makes the wait longer. I think we need more booze."
"I'm in agreement there." I said, in response to the Alcoholic comment.
Zoe brought in more drinks, and some shloer for Autumn, so she wouldn't feel so left out.
"Can we see the dress?" Abigail, one of my aunts asked.
"Not till the wedding." I said.
"Aww, come on Auntie Ari! Please!"
"Sorry, Autumn, no can do." I said. "Especially with this many humans who've induced alcohol."
She started laughing at what I was implying. I shook my head at her. She yawned.
"I think it's time for someone to go to bed." Zoe said. "Come on you. We can walk back home, can't we?"
Autumn nodded. She came over and gave me a hug. "See you tomorrow Auntie Ari." "See you tomorrow squirt." I said.
"Am not a squirt." She mumbled.
Zoe hugged me, and the two left. Slowly after that, people started to leave, until it was just me, Mam, Cari, Luce and Faith. We all went off to bed then, to try and get as much sleep as possible.
No P.O.V
Logan and Mort exchanged a glance as they saw Victor for the first time that night in the hotel he was staying at that was across the road from the registry office. He had several bottles of beer, and empty glasses on the table in front of him.
"What's up, Victor?" Logan asked, sitting down.
"Eloise kicked me out of the house, Jimmy. I'm not even allowed to call. She's taken Arianwen's mobile from her, so that's out."
"Aww, you're missing her." Mort said.
"Shut up Mort." Victor said.
"Hey Sabes, who's your best man?" Mort asked. It was only now dawning on him.
"Jimmy is."
Mort looked dumbstruck. "What? Wolverine here? I thought you hated each other for the most part."
The two brothers laughed. "We do fight a lot. I'll give you that, but I don't think hate is quite the right word." Logan said.
"We're brothers, Mort." Victor said.
"Really? Bloody hell, would never have thought that." Mort said.
"Right, what do you two want to drink?" Victor asked. "I'm trying to by pass my mutation and drink myself to sleep."
"I'll join you, but if I have to explain to Arianwen why you're late because you overslept due to somehow managing to get drunk, I will find a way to kill you."
"Fine, just let me get her pregnant first." Victor hadn't meant to let that slip out. His hand which had been reaching for his glass of whiskey stilled.
Mort started choking on air. "You're going to try for a kid?" he asked.
"Well… yeah." Victor said, as if that was the most obvious thing in the world.
"I didn't see that one coming." Logan said. He grinned. "Are you sure that you really want to do that, I'm pretty sure all your kids would have 666 tattooed on their heads."
"Ha fucking ha, Jimmy. I'm sure the kids would be fine. They'd be half Arianwen's anyway. That has to count for something in the right direction."
"Remind me to book a priest who does exorcisms as well as baptisms to be on the safe side." Logan said to Mort. "Especially if it's a boy and they name it Damien."
"Alright, quit with the hell spawn jokes, Jimmy." Victor said.
Logan held his hands up in surrender. "Fine. I'll stop. But don't say I didn't warn you."
Victor glared at the runt, before ordering some more drinks.
