Chapter 91
Ari P.O.V
We decided to spend an extra week in the cabin, away from the real world. We wanted a bit more time to ourselves before we had to go back to our lives. But, when we did go back to Sacramento, I was immediately on the phone to Cari.
"Ari! You're back!" She said, picking up her phone.
"Yep, I said, laughing at her tone. I could tell she was jumping. We hadn't talked at all in three weeks.
"So, how'd it go?" She asked.
"Great." I replied. "It was just me, Victor, and a very important piece of news."
"News? What news?" She asked.
"How do you feel about being an aunt?"
There was a shriek on the other end so high that I held the phone away from my ear until she quieted down.
"You're pregnant?" She asked.
"Yep." I said, laughing.
"Oh my GOD! Congratulations! Oh! I can't wait!"
"You can't wait? What about me? Or Victor?"
"But I'm gonna be an aunt!" She said.
"And I'm going to be a mother!" I said. "Now, you are the first to know, so don't go telling anyone else, not even Logan- Victor wants to tell him."
"Err, Logan may have heard me. He wants me to ask you to tell Victor six, six, six?"
"I'll pass that message on." I said. "Hey Vic! Logan overheard Cari, and says six, six, six, whatever that means."
"Tell Jimmy to fuck off!"
"Victor says to tell him to fuck off."
Cari relayed the message, and I heard Logan laughing in the background. "Well, I'll let you go, I have to calm this idiot down. See you Ari, and congratulations!"
"Thanks Cari, see you soon." I hung up, and then dialled another number.
"Hello?" My dads slightly tired voice answered.
"Hi dad." I said.
"Ari. You alright?"
"I'm fine dad. You'll never guess what?"
"What?"
"You're going to be a grandpa." I said. "Again."
"You're pregnant?" Dad asked.
"Yeah, I am. Around three weeks into the pregnancy too."
"Congratulations, Arianwen." He said softly. "How are you feeling about this?"
"It's amazing! I really love the fact that Victor and I are going to be parents." I said.
"What about Victor?"
"Oh, he definitely loves the idea." I said, smiling.
"I'm glad that he's alright with it too. If there's anything you need, just give me a call."
"I will dad." I said.
"Right, well, I'll let you go, I've had a long day at work, so I'm going to eat my dinner, and go to bed."
"Alright dad. Have a nice night."
"You too sweetheart." he said. I hung up again, and checked my watch.
"Its too late to call anyone back in Wales. It's near midnight there." I said.
Victor opened his arms, and I walked over to him, and sat down besides him, and wrapped my arms round his waist, while his arms wrapped round my shoulders, pulling me close to his chest. Victor started to stroke my hair, and plant kisses on my forehead.
"What do you want for food tonight Kitten?"
"Cant we just order take out?"
"Alright. Take out it is." Victor said, reaching over and pulling the phone out of the cradle. He dialled the number.
"I'll just have my usual." I said.
Victor kissed my forehead again in acknowledgement. He placed an order when the nearest Chinese picked up, and soon, we were just waiting for the food to come.
I rested my head on Victor's chest, as he resumed stroking my hair. "How are you feeling Kitten?"
"Just fine, Vic."
"Nothing feels wrong?"
"Nothing at all. Victor, I am absolutely fine. Trust me. If there was something wrong, I would let you know."
Victor nodded. "Good."
Something seemed off about his tone.
"Victor, are you alright?"
"Just thinking. My father wasn't the best- why should I be any different?"
I looked up, and saw that he was looking away from me. I grabbed hold of his chin, and forced him to look at me. "You listen to me Victor Creed. You are going to be a brilliant father to this child." With my free hand, I grabbed one of his hands, and I placed it on my flat stomach. "This child is going to have two loving parents. Me and you. Just because your father wasn't the best, doesn't mean you won't be. I have every faith that you'll do just fine. Do you want to know why?"
"Why?"
"Because of the way you treat me. You remember how you acted when Edith killed our first? Well, if you were going to be a bad father, you would have told me to just get over it. You may have even blamed me for the death of that baby, were you going to be a bad father. I believe, that because of how much you love me, you can love our cub just as much. And the fact that you're worried about how good a father you'll be proves it even further."
Victor nodded, and smiled at me. "I guess it's just strange to me. I've never done this before."
"Neither have I." I said. "All parents have a first time round. No one goes into this with experience. But we can do this. Together." I kissed him deeply, before we settled down together to watch some TV, and wait for our food.
The next day, I called mam. She took it surprisingly well. I say well… I was nearly deafened. Her shriek was higher and louder than Cari's.
"I'm going to be a grandma again? Oh, when can I come over to see you?"
"Any time you like ma. Just book a flight, we have room for you here. Just, give us some notice, don't just turn up at our door. Otherwise I won't know what state the apartment will be in."
"Or you don't know what state you'll be in?" She teased.
I laughed. "Just call ahead Ma, and I can come pick you up, and prepare the second bedroom for when you want to come over."
"Alright, I'll call ahead." Mam said. We talked for a little while longer, before I hung up, to call Paddy, Mark, Faith and Luce. I dialled Paddy's number first.
"You're lucky you caught me on my Lunch break Tigris." Paddy said answering.
"Hello to you too Paddy." I said, smiling. "I'm fine thanks for asking, how are you?"
"I'm fine- and you know I would have asked."
"Yeah, I know. I'm just rushing things along. I have some news."
"What kind?"
"The very, very good kind."
"Pray tell."
"Well, I've found a way past my heightened metabolism to gain weight."
"What kind of news is that?"
"I'm pregnant, Paddy." I drawled.
There was silence on the other end.
"Paddy? Paddy? Patrick!"
"Pregnant? So soon?"
"Yes Paddy. Actually since a bit before the wedding, it seems. Tell me, will I be able to get hold of Mark, Luce and Faith after this call?"
"Should be able to, yeah." He said.
"Great, now, any interesting leads in the life of my favourite technopath?"
"Nothing really interesting. Not compared to learning I'm going to be an Uncle."
"Sorry to spring it on you so soon." I said.
"Are you kidding? This is great! A great piece of news!"
"I know right?" I said. My conversations with Faith, Luce and Mark were much the same as with Paddies, and all of them wanted to know a date they could come and visit. I told them I'd have to get back to them. With Mark, I'd have to arrange something around his leave.
Telling Zoe was the same as telling mam, and I could hear in the background, the sounds of a very excited Autumn. I was congratulated many times over, and by the time I hung up, I wanted to never hear the word Congratulations ever again. But I knew I'd be hearing a lot more of it.
