Chapter 93

Ari P.O.V

Labour was painful. And the people rushing round didn't help.

"LOOK! JUST HEAD OVER TO THE RECEPTION, AND LET VICTOR GET ME TO THE FUCKING HOSPITAL!" I yelled.

People started backing off then. "Ari, do you want me to do anything?" Cari asked.

"Go enjoy- the rest of your wedding." I panted. "Sorry bout this."

"Oh you couldn't help this- at least Logan cant say he forgot our anniversary if his nephew or niece's birthday is on the same day." She laughed.

"Don't hold your breath. Knowing my fucking luck- this baby's gonna hold off for coming several days." I said, and allowed Victor to lead me to the jeep. He opened the door for the passenger seat, and helped me get up and into the jeep. He closed the door and rushed round to the drivers seat. I caught sight of Paddy on his phone. He hung up, and then started to text, I think. I heard my phone beep, and grabbed it from my purse, as Victor started to drive. Paddy had sent me a text saying he'd phoned my mam. I thanked God that my friends still had mam's house phone number from before I'd moved out.

"Put your seat belt on Kitten." Victor said.

I fumbled with the belt, but eventually got it into the lock. I was breathing quickly, trying to ease the pain.

"Everything's going to be fine Kitten. I promise." Victor said.

"It hurts!" I almost screamed.

"I know it does Kitten but-"

"No you don't! You've never been in labour! You've never even gone through a fucking period!" I screamed at him.

"You're right, I don't know what the pain you're going through is like, but it'll be fine in the end Kitten. It'll be worth it- I promise. We're going to have a little Cub."

"How the fuck can something so good hurt this bad?" I asked, tears starting to spill over from pain. "FUCK!"

I barely noticed that Victor was driving well past the speed limit. My breathing increased to short shallow pants.

"Kitten, remember what the midwife said, you need to take deep breaths."

I growled. "That's easy for you to fucking say!"

"I know it's easy for me to say, but remember what she told you." Victor said.

I let out a pained moan and threw my head backwards. My hands grasped at my swollen stomach. "GET THIS CUB OUT OF ME!"

"I can't do that Kitten, the cub has to come on it's own time.

"You have claws! Pull over and use them!"

"I'm not going to risk that!" Victor replied, almost raising his voice.

"If this is what it's gonna be like every time, then you're sleeping in the shed!"

"We don't have a shed!"

"We'll get one!"

Jimmy's wedding had been going well, Victor thought. Jimmy had been just as nervous as he had been at his own, but that all disappeared when Cari took Jimmy's hand at the alter. Victor had stolen glances at his mate at every chance he could. She was beautiful, and being pregnant with his cub increased her beauty to him. They signed the register as witnesses to Jimmy's and Cari's wedding, and gone to stand for photo's, when Arianwen had announced in no uncertain terms that she had gone into labour.

Now, he was trying to get her to the hospital, keep her calm and he was at the receiving end of threats. He knew that she was under strain, so that was the reason she was threatening him with not being able to even sleep in the same bed.

Victor increased the jeep's speed once more. He needed to get her to the Hospital. But he was glad Arianwen had fallen into labour in Wales. Humans here were far more tolerant than in America. Just then his phone went. He pulled it out of his pocket, and answered it.

"What?" He snapped.

"Hey Sabes. How's it going?" Mort's voice came from the other side. "And what is that noise?"

"It's Arianwen in labour."

"She's…? HEY! PYRO! GUESS WHO'S IN LABOUR! GO MAGNETO AND MYSTIQUE WOULD YOU?"

"No need to yell Mort." Victor said, growling.

"He was all the way down the corridor." Mort said. "How is she?"

"Threatening me with sleeping in the shed."

"You don't have one though."

"Apparently, we're getting one." he replied. "Now, if you don't mind, I have to concentrate on getting Arianwen to the hospital, while keeping her calm."

"Call when you have any news." Mort said, and then Victor hung up, to concentrate on his mate.

The pain made the journey seem a lot longer than it should have been. It seemed to take a day to get to the hospital. When we arrived, we were led straight to the Birthing Centre, where the midwifes placed me in a room. I was so glad that I didn't have to go onto a ward.

Victor never left my side. To be fair, I didn't give him the choice, I was gripping his hand quite tightly. I was also cussing very loudly. I don't think Victor knew that my range of swear words was so large.

I was so hot, it felt like I was in an inferno. A large contraction racked my body. I screamed. The pain subsided a little, not much though.

"Get- this- baby- out- of- me!" I panted.

"You aren't fully dilated yet- not even close." The midwife said.

"I want this baby out of me NOW!" I screamed.

"I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do about it, you're just going to have to wait it out."

"Wait it out? Wait it out?" My voice was getting shriller. "I am in pain here- it feels like this baby is tearing me apart! And it must be what, ninety degrees centigrade in here or something?" I asked.

"I'll just open a window." The midwife said, moving away to the windows.

Victor had his arm around my waist, supporting me, and letting me grip both of his hands easier. I buried my head in the crook of his neck and inhaled his scent, trying to hide from the continuous pain.

"Make it stop Victor! Please! Make the pain go away!" I moaned.

"I'm sorry Kitten. If I could get you drugs that would work, then I would, but your healing factor would just stop them working before you could get any benefit." He said.

The pain started to get even worse. "Can't I push yet?" I asked.

"Not yet." The Midwife replied. "But you're halfway to being ready."

"How long have we been here?" I asked.

"Six hours." The midwife said.

"So I have another Six hours?"

"Not necessarily. It could be shorter or longer, depending." The Midwife said.

"On what?"

"Each pregnancy's different." She said.

My tail flicked in agitation.

"Do you want to see if the gas and air will work?" She asked gently.

"Just gimme!" I snapped. I was willing t try anything. I just wanted the pain to stop.

She returned a minute later, and instructed me on how to use it. I tried it out, and growled in frustration.

"IT'S NOT WORKING!" I screeched.

The mask was taken from me, and put to one side. Time seemed to blur- I only registered certain things being said over the pain. I could barely focus on anything other than the pain. The only thing that I fully understood, however, was when the Midwife said, "It's time, you're ready to push, when the next contraction hits, push hard."

I took several deep breaths, and when the contraction hit, I pushed.

"Alright, and again with the next contraction." The midwife said. I pushed again, and screamed. There was so much pain. I just wanted it to end!

"Push!" A voice said. I did.

I tuned out all the other voices, and concentrated on the contractions. Whenever one hit, I pushed. I pushed hard, and with a final scream, the pain subsided. A baby's cries reached my ears, and I smiled and laughed weakly, before the world around me faded into darkness.
