CHAPTER ONE: NERDS
"Michael wake up, you don't want to be late." Mike's mom yelled at him, annoyance clear in her voice.
Mike reluctantly woke up with a grunt and started to get ready for school. After rinsing his mouth out Mike was good and ready and hopped on his bike to head to Hawkins High School. The ride to school was smooth and in no time, Mike was chaining his bike to the rack. As he was walking into the school a police cruiser sped into the lot, and out came El Hopper. Everyone knew El she was the chief's daughter, but Mike knew her better as the girlfriend of his number one bully, Troy Walsh. Mike decided to walk with a little more vigor knowing if El was here Troy is surely on his way. Mike had saw his four friends in the hall upon entering the school and decided to join them.
"I'm not trying out Lucas!" Max screamed at Lucas with a fire in her eyes.
"Trying out for what?" Mike had asked a little amused by the furious look on Max's face.
"Well Lucas wants Max to try out for cheerleading since he made the basketball team." Will explained getting Mike up to speed with today's current problem.
"Ughhh Lucas has me pissed off for the day, later losers." Max said walking away from the party.
Lucas had chased after Max so that left just Will, Dustin & Mike. They started to walk towards homeroom discussing a new campaign when Troy stopped them with El in tow.
"Well if it isn't frogface and the rest of the nerd crew." Troy said with a smug grin.
"Come on guys, let's just go." Mike said as he and the party started to walk away.
Troy grabbed Mike before he could walk away and jacked him up on to the lockers.
"I don't recall saying you nerds could leave." Troy said in a condescending.
"Wow you know how to use the word recall in a sentence correctly, maybe there is hope." Mike said with a condescending tone of his own.
This only seemed to make Troy angry because for the first time one of Troy's punches knocked the boy unconscious. Troy ran off with El, and Dustin and Will sprung into action. It took them a minute because of how tall Mike was, but they finally managed to drag him to the nurses office. The nurse took him in and since she wasn't authorized to give him any medication, she put an ice pack on his head and called his mother. To say Karen was furious was an understatement and when she arrived at the hospital, she called the police and filed a report against Troy. Ten minutes had gone by and Mike and his mom were talking when Chief Jim Hopper walked through the door to get a detailed report.
"It's not like he's going do anything about it." Mike mumbled under his breath, but Hopper did in fact hear him.
"Have something say to me, say it like a man." Hopper glanced at Mike pissed that he even had to respond to this call.
"I'm just saying it's not like you're going to lock up your precious daughter's boyfriend." Mike responded a lot louder challenging the chief to argue.
Hopper ended the exchange and took mental note of what Mike said because he was right and headed towards the high school to arrest his daughter's boyfriend. Meanwhile at the school El was sitting in class and couldn't help but notice a death glare from a certain redhead.
"Can I help you, Maxine?" El said with annoyance while rolling her eyes.
"Yes you can, how about start by telling your brainless boy toy to stop beating up my friends." Max said with her own annoyed tone not backing down from the school's lead cheerleader.
"Number one it's just harmless fun and number two why would I defend any of those nerds." El shot back in a very condescending tone.
"All you popular bitches are the same, always worr-." Max's sentence was cut short by the secretary talking over the P.A system.
"Eleanor Hopper and Troy Walsh to the front office please."
El had gotten out of her seat to head to the front office making sure to flip Max the bird before she completely left. El took the short trip to the front office slightly nervous about what this could be, but soon felt a wave of relief upon seeing her dad and one of his deputies. She walked in and her dad signaled for her to sit down and wait. Another thirty seconds went by before Troy would walk in looking equally confused.
"Troy Walsh, you are under arrest for assault and battery, you have the right to remain silent anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney, if you cannot afford an attorney the court will appoint you one. Cuff him and book him Callahan." Hopper said with a hint of coldness, Hopper had a special hate for bullies.
The deputy cuffed Troy and walked him to the car while Hopper walked over to the chairs El were sitting in and gave her a disappointed look.
"TO THE TRUCK . . . NOW!" Hopper said in his stern fatherly voice.
El stormed out of the office with Hopper right behind her and got into the truck making sure to keep her look of annoyance.
"You're bullying people now!" Hopper said more as a statement than a question.
"I didn't hit anyone it was Troy and that kid is a total cocky asshole anyways." El shot back taken aback by the accusation.
"The kid being an ass or not you stood by a bully and that's not how I raised you, I'm very disappointed in you El." Hopper said this in a much calmer tone and El stayed silent.
"Nothing to say for yourself huh, alright since you think bullying is so cool let me lay down the law for ya. You are to break up with Troy & that Wheeler kid, well you're going to make friends with him or you're no longer a cheerleader." Hopper said with a tone that left no room for argument.
