Chapter 5
POV Jason
It took me a while to be okay with the whole being a parent thing. I mean I don't really have any good role models myself so how in the name of my father would I be able to do this? I will admit to feeling better when we first got Reyna back. She was pretty easy as she fell asleep almost immediately after she was in her car seat and the van started moving. Dakota on the other hand was a different story.
Dakota was a little boy that acted like he was on a sugar high all the time. He kept asking questions and why and basically wanting to know everything we were doing. He also kept asking for drinks he was always thirsty. I knew that this was something I would have to ask Will about.
All of these things make me really grateful that I will have Piper with me. She will no doubt be the favorite parent. I'm not even mad about that. Overall, I am just thankful that both kiddos are here and are unharmed.
"Heads up we have about 15 until we are in Missouri." Said Leo from the front seat.
"Sounds good man, I'll probably stay back with the kiddos. You think Nico will stay with?"
"I would hope so. He has two just like you and I doubt that Bianca will let him out of her sight for more than 30 seconds at a time." Leo laughed.
That was true Bianca had a bad reaction to Nico leaving to find Dakota and Hazel. I just hope that everything will run smoothly with this pickup. It was one kiddo and hopefully, he was in a position to be found.
It was not even 5 minutes later that we saw a little boy running from an old lady shooing him out of her store. Both vans stopped pretty fast and Percy was out of the passenger seat quickly I also got out to just make sure he didn't say anything stupid.
"Whoa, lady leave the kid alone."
"Don't sass me, boy! I have every right to chase this heathen out of my shop. He's stealing my candies."
"Well, maybe he's hungry."
"Then his parents should feed him!"
"Don't have any…" the little boy mumbled at his shoes.
"Well, then the police should come and pick you up."
That was when I went to get Thalia, she had a way with the mist that neither Percy nor I had. She saw me coming so she hopped out of the van and jogged over.
"What's up baby bro?"
"A lady that wants to call the police."
"Man, this would be easier with Piper."
"You don't have to remind me."
We made our way back over to where Percy and who I assumed was our Charlie kiddo. The lady was about to move to her phone.
"Hi, ma'am I am so sorry, my friend here lost sight of his kid and was freaked out when you started yelling at him." She snapped her fingers.
"Well…" she started "just keep an eye on him young man kids should always have their guardians nearby."
"Will do!" Percy said.
He scooped up Charlie and we went to the Vans. The little boy seemed fine but a little timid with us.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"Well," Percy said while placing him on the passenger seat of the van. "My name is Percy and I came to give you a home."
"Don't need one, I fine."
"I'm sure you are but I want to help you."
"Why?"
"Because you seem like you're a pretty cool kid and I have a son back home that really wants to have a big brother and I think you could do just the job. What do you think?"
"Well…maybe I can try. Not many other kids like me…I quiet." He said.
"I think he will like you just fine. I think all of your cousins will like you too."
"I have family?"
"A super big family!"
"Weally?" he was so shy.
"Yep really, really."
I left them to continue talking making my way back to my van where my own kids were. As I got their I saw Thalia changing Reyna and Dakota asking if he could help.
"I know how! I help Hazza all the time!"
"You can help sometimes but you don't have to anymore," I said to him.
"But I like helping…" he shrugged.
"I'm glad you like helping cause you are gonna have two sisters that are going to need a lot of help."
"Two!" he held up two fingers and his eyes widen.
"Yep, two! Reyna and Silena. Although Silena is a year older than you are so she might not need too much help but Piper might need some."
"Who that?" he asked.
"That's my girlfriend she's gonna help me take care of you and your sisters."
"Like a mommy and a daddy?"
I paused. "Yeah bud, just like a mommy and a daddy."
"Really!?"
"Yep!" Dakota rushed at me hugging me super tight. "You'll always have someone to take care of you Dakota no matter what."
"Okay daddy," he said back. My insides might have melted a bit at that. I was about to say something else when Reyna yelled out.
"Daddy!"
"That's right baby I'm daddy." I smiled and kissed her forehead.
POV Leo
After picking up Charlie we had a bit of a snack break for the kiddos. Reyna needed changed again and so Nico checked Hazel. Dakota was again thirsty and Charlie asked very quietly if he could have a small Lego kit while we were at the gas station. It was just one of those little baggy ones but still I was sort of jealous of the 5-year-old. Finally, Bianca declared that she needed to use the bathroom but she wanted Aunt Beth to help her not Daddy. Which was probably for the best.
Once all that was taken care of, we hit the road again. Thalia and I were still with Jason and his kiddos. Dakota had finally fallen asleep after what felt like hours and so Jason had finally fell asleep as well. Reyna was still sort of awake but she was quietly babbling to herself as she watched out the window.
"Last pickup." Said Thalia.
"I know I miss our girl." Thalia smiled.
"Me too, but we are about to get our other one. I just hope they like each other. Well, I hope Rissa can get along with her I guess."
"She'll be fine Lo." I nodded I was sure it would be fine.
It was another thirty minutes until we got to where they thought we would find the two girls that we would be saving. Once we hit the small town of Grove City it was time to stop. We went for what we thought would be the smartest stop and found a park. We were letting the kids run for a while. Charlie didn't do much playing but he did stay close to Percy and played with his Legos.
"What are we thinking." Asked Annabeth.
"It would be smart to ask around maybe…" Thalia mentioned.
"Yea we could but I still feel the locals will be weirded out that teenagers are asking about kids." Said Percy who was absentmindedly running his hand through Charlie's hair.
"Daddy?" asked Charlie.
"Yea bud?" asked Percy automatically, I'm not even sure he knew that he answered right away. Annabeth definitely did though cause she smiled from ear to ear.
"Two girls, right?" he asked.
"Yep, two."
"Like dem?" he pointed out to where there were two girls about the same age looking around the jungle gym at Nico and Jason who were playing with their kids.
"Yes, baby just like them! Good eyes!" said Annabeth who kissed his head. He beamed up at her with a huge smile.
"What do you say we go see if they want to play?" asked Percy.
Charlie started to get up when he seemed to look closer at the girls. He paused tilted his head and then took off at a run.
"Charlie!" Annabeth yelled after him. We all followed.
"CHARLIE!" yelled the darker-skinned of the two girls.
"LENA!" he screamed back it was the loudest he had talked all day.
"Charlie! Why are you here? You not with your mama anymore?"
"She died a monser took her away."
"Oh," she frowned "I sorry." She hugged him.
"How you get all the way here?" he asked.
"I found Gwennie and den we walk and walk and walk and walk and walk till we here." She shrugged.
"Hi, I Gwen!" said the blond little girl.
"Charlie, can you tell me how you know Silena?" asked Annabeth.
Before he answered he watched as Nico, Jason and the kids walked over to see what all the ruckus was about.
"Lena went to my school. She was the prettiest girl in our class." He said and then blushed because of what she said.
"Charlie was the quietest in our class and no one talked to him but I thought he was nice so I did and he was so we became friends and then my parents moved us way and then they got eaten by a monster and know I'm here." She said in all one breath.
"Well, how would you feel about going with us?" I asked. "Gwen, you have a little sister waiting to meet you if you wanted to come with us."
"But I don't have any siblings." She said back.
"We know sweet girl we have been looking for you and Silena for a while now. My name is Thalia and Leo and I would be taking care of you. While Silena would be in Jason in Piper's family and their two kiddos." She said pointing to Jason.
"Yea, if that's okay with you Silena, you and my girlfriend Piper have the same godly parent."
"Aphrodite."
"That's right how did you know?"
"She came to my dream and told me to look for you. It why I watched you play for a while before Charlie found me." She said with a small smile.
"Well, I'm glad she helped you," he said back.
"Daddy?"
"Yea Kota?" Jason asked back.
"Lena our big sister?" he asked back.
"If she wants to be called that yep she would be your big sister."
Silena looked like she was thinking about it. "Yea I can be your sister but you have to play dress up with me."
"We can have a tea party with Daddy and Mommy and Reyna!" he exclaimed.
"Whoa there bud I didn't say anything about tea parties."
"But Daddy it would be a welcome us to the family tea party!" said Silena with her eyelashes batting.
"Oh boy Jay she's good." I said
Gwen came up to me and tugged on my pants till I crouched down to her level.
"We have one too?" she asked while pouting.
"Anything you want mi amor." I said back. Gwen beamed and Thalia laughed.
"Yea Lo Jay's the one that's gonna have the problem."
I chuckled at her "If my girl wants a tea party, we will have a tea party." I sated with my arms crossed.
What made it cuter was Gwen looked up at her and crossed her arms and said, "Yea if his girl wants a tea party, she'll get one."
"Watch that tone girly that's your new mama," I whispered to her. Her eyes got wide.
"Really, I have a new mama? And you, my Daddy?"
"Yea amor that's us."
Her eyes got big again and seemed to grow shiny. Before we could say anything, she burst into tears and wrapped her arms around my leg.
"Oh, sweetheart," I said picking her up. "It's okay you're okay."
"H-happy." She whispered.
Thalia came over and started running her fingers through the girl's tangled hair. She smiled at me and pecked my lips.
"Alright, gang let's get home to our other family members." She said.
"To Papa!" Hazel yelled and we all chuckled.
It was going to be a long ride but it would be worth it to get back to our other little girl. It was going to be an adventure I was hopefully ready for.
