This little story kept begging to be written. This is the intro. It will probably be 3 to 4 parts. It reminds me in a lot of ways of another movie from 90's and my childhood. I loved the movie My Girl and still enjoy it to this day. This will obviously be a little different, though. Intro is T/K Fluff :)
Due to the timeline, DT never happened but everything before that is canon up until the moment they were reunited, which is not mentioned in this chapter. But that might make a fun one-shot in the future.

I've Got Sunshine
The room was dimly lit and cold, a slight shiver ran up her exposed arm as she pulled the white cotton blanket over her shoulder. Despite the frigid air and the growing ache in her wound, Kim felt nearly euphoric. An insurmountable warmth had curled around her heart, even hours later, still causing tears of absolute joy to gather in her eyes. She looked to her right, at the bassinette just inches from her hospital bed, and gazed in awe at the precious sleeping bundle. The newborn was wrapped snugly in a pink and purple swaddle. The signature hospital cap had slipped off the baby's tiny head, revealing a luscious head of dark, straight hair.
A reverent smile stretched across the brunette's lips as she stared at her daughter; her heart swollen with the greatest love she had ever known.
"She's like a dream, isn't she?" Tommy's voice was slightly hoarse from sleep.
He uncurled his tall figure from the sofa on the other side of Kim's bed, and stretched, adjusting his neck before making his way towards his wife. He slid next to her into the small bed, and put an arm around her shoulder, cautious of her incision. Their fingers interlaced and he nuzzled his face into her neck before pressing his lips to the skin there.
"She's so beautiful, Kim. She's perfect. I still can't believe she's ours." He whispered over the shell of her ear, "We made her."
Kim chuckled lightly, stroking his arm with her free hand. "This sure feels like a dream. I almost thought this day would never come."
They watched as the baby suddenly scrunched her nose, and started to whimper, readying herself to begin wailing. Tommy shot up, gently scooping her into his arms against his chest as he rocked her slightly, trying to shush her back to sleep. The little one was almost lulled by the warm cradle of her father's embrace, but her instinct to feed had taken over, and her whimpers intensified.
"Somebody is hungry," he cooed, kissing her forehead before bringing the baby over to Kim.
Kimberly pulled down the side of her nursing shirt, positioning the baby and hoping the latch would be successful. As a first-time mom, the initial few tries after the baby was born had been a little difficult, but with the help of the nurses and the lactation consultant, she'd been able to get her to eat the last three feedings.
"There you go, my love," she crooned, smiling and tenderly caressing her daughter's cheek.
Tommy looked on, now seated at the foot of the bed, a huge, prideful grin curving his lips. His amazing and gorgeous wife had just given birth to their first child. His baby girl! He could hardly contain his emotions since the moment he'd first laid eyes on his daughter and heard her fierce little cry.
Kim had to have a c-section due to the baby's positioning, so it took a few minutes before she was able to fully see her. Once the cord was cut, the doctor had brought her over. The baby's hand instinctively fell over her mom's cheek, and she almost instantly stopped crying. It was as if she recognized her mother's soothing touch. The couple broke into sobs at the sight, causing some of the OR staff to shed a few tears of their own.
His heart was full.
"So do we have a name for this nugget yet?"
Kim's finger softly traced down the bridge of her daughter's tiny nose and she smiled, nodding her head as she looked up at Tommy fondly. "Yes," she answered, just above a whisper. "Charlotte Rae Oliver."
Tommy's jaw twitched as he fought back the tears now brimming in his eyes. "Charlotte… after my mother," he murmured, wiping at the moisture sliding down his face.
The brunette nodded, drying tears of her own. "I just knew the moment I saw our daughter that she would let me know who she was. It was the first name I thought of the second I felt her warmth. I know how important this is… how important she is and everything this means to you. And I want our daughter to honor the woman who gave birth to the love of my life."
Tommy moved to sit by his wife again, tilting her chin toward him and kissing her soundly. "I love you," he whispered, brushing his lips against hers. "Thank you."
During his senior year of high school, Tommy had learned the identity of his birth mother. She was an 18-year-old, unwed mother who'd died of complications while giving birth to him. Learning of his biological mother's untimely and tragic death was crushing. But knowing she'd been alone and never even got to hold him was a devastating reality that he'd wished he'd never found out.
After several moments, the baby lay sleeping peacefully in her mother's arms.
"Are you ready for tomorrow?" he asked, gently caressing Charlotte's soft locks.
"The welcome committee?" Kim replied with amusement. "Definitely. I can't wait for her to meet her crazy Ranger family. She will be one of the most loved and well-protected little girls in the world, just like baby Sophia once she's earthside."
At the mention of Aisha and Rocky's unborn daughter, Tommy chuckled. "Rocky got choked up when I gave him the news about… Charlotte." His heart leapt in his chest at the sound of his daughter's name. "You know I have to give him shit tomorrow."
"Of course," she said with a mock eyeroll. "Go easy on him, baby. He's been a nervous wreck these last few days. I've never seen him so serious. When Rocky refuses dessert, you know there's a problem."
They both laughed.
"You need to get some rest, beautiful. She'll be up again shortly."
Kim nuzzled her little one's nose, kissing her softly on the cheek before handing her over to Tommy.
He walked towards the bassinette, but instead of setting her down, he cradled his daughter tightly against his chest.
"Hey, Nugget. I just wanted to let you know that you're the luckiest little girl. You have the most beautiful and amazing mother. And I love her with all of my heart… so take it easy on those early morning feedings, okay?" he chuckled. "We've been waiting a very long time for you." His tone took on a more serious note. "I've been waiting my whole life for you."
A tear fell from the tip of his nose, disappearing into the fabric of the swaddle.
"I'm not a perfect, man—Just ask your mom," he snickered, voice thick with emotion. "But I promise to be the best dad. I promise to always be there for you and your mother. And I promise to give you the best of me, Charlotte. I love you, nugget." His voice lowered to a soft whisper as he pressed his lips to her hairline, "Thank you for making me a father."
Tommy set his daughter down gingerly and watched in amazement as the sweetest smile tugged at her lips while she slept. He wiped his eyes and slipped in next to an emotional Kim. She reached for him and kissed him hard.
"I love you."
