Chapter 1: The Last Days of Paradise

Sora Nomura liked sparring with his best friends, playing on the play island with Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie, and making a fool of himself. He was also a Math genius and a computer wiz, and sarcastic to boot.

He currently was waking up from a dream (or nightmare) where he was forced to choose between a sword, shield, and staff, and forced to give up one of those. He obviously took the staff and threw away the shield, as magic is cool and the best defense is a great offense. He then was thrust into battle, fighting these goopy black monsters and then fighting a ginormous black monster, with a hole in the shape of a heart in the middle, and spiky hair, not too unlike Sora's.

He yawned and exclaimed, "Whoa." He then noticed one of his best friends, Kairi, standing over him. She was an auburn-headed girl with long locks of straight hair and a headstrong personality. He was supposed to be gathering supplies for the Raft, but, as he would put it, he was looking for it in his dreams.

Kairi said, "Sora, you lazy bum. I knew that I'd find you snoozing down here."

Sora panickingly responded, "No! This huge, black thing swallowed me up! I couldn't breathe! I couldn't—," Kairi flicked him, "—Ow!"

"Are you still dreaming?"

"I'm not, am I? Or are you just a figment of my dream trying to convince me that I'm in the real wor—" Kairi flicked him again.

"Is that real enough for you? Or do you want me to flick you again?"

"Fine, fine. Say, Kairi where were you from?" Sora diverted.

"I've told you I don't know. Are you deflecting? Anyway, I would like to see it, just to see if some people could tell me what happened, but my friends are here. So, let's get to it!"

Another of Sora's best friends approached, the stoic grey-haired Riku with long 90's hair.

"Hey! Aren't you guys forgetting about me? So, I guess I'm the only one working on the raft. And you're just as lazy as he is!"

Kairi giggled and said, "So you noticed. Okay, we'll finish it together. I'll race you!"

And so, over the next two days, Sora, Riku and Kairi all rushed to finish the raft, so that they may embark on a journey to another world. On the second day, while Sora was collecting mushrooms in the Secret Place, he heard a man speak.

"I've come to see the door to this world"

"Are you sure? You sure aren't leaving."

"This world has been connected."

"Of course, it has been connected, I mean there aren't holes in it now is there?"

"Tied to the darkness… Soon to be fully eclipsed."

"Hey, I'll have you know that the Eclipse was scheduled to happen tomorrow night anyway, so why'd you have to go be creepy about it? Anyway, who the heck are you?"

"You do not know what lies beyond the door."

"So, you do. I guess that means you are from another world. Are you an alien?"

"There is so very much to learn. You understand so little."

"I mean, there are infinitely many things I don't know, isn't there? I'll learn some of it definitely, especially about other worlds, but you are no better."

"A meaningless effort. One who knows nothing can understand nothing"

"I know nothing, obviously, so I do in fact understand it. Either way, if you believe that I cannot learn about the worlds, you have something coming and oh, I'm talking to air..."

So, Sora picked up the mushrooms and resumed supplying the raft. After he was finished, Kairi gifted Sora a Thalassa shell necklace, to help them find each other when separated. They then sat on a tree branch and talked.

Kairi began, "You know, Riku has changed."

"I mean, obviously he has, he's gotten bigger of course, and well you may have a point. He's a bit more distant."

"Sora, let's take the raft and go-just the two of us!"

"I'd feel bad though, Riku spending all his effort on this raft and having it stolen by us. I think you've changed, Kairi."

"Maybe... You know, I was a little afraid at first, but now I'm ready. No matter where I go or what I see, I know I can always come back here. Right?"

"Unless we get shipwrecked and die, of course."

"Good, I don't plan to. Sora, don't ever change. I just can't wait. Once we set sail, it'll be great."

Sora then went to his home on the main island, while he was waiting for dinner. He looked out the window and saw a storm approaching.

"A storm? Oh no, the raft!"

His mom said, "Sora, dinner's ready. Come on down. Sora?"

But he had already leaped out the window...
