Something warm covered us and a lot of arms guided us out of the fridge room. And, little by little, sensitivity returned to my extremities and clarity to my mind.
"You better, my dear?"
"Mr. Blue?"
"Yes, it's me."
"Where is Kristoff?"
"Look at your back," he said winking at me. "He didn't let go of you. Nor a second."
I turned my head and Kristoff was there, worried and pale face, but less pale than inside the fridge.
"You okay?" he asked with a soft weak voice.
"I will. You?"
"I'm fine."
And then, he smiled at me, hope in his eyes, a blissful light living there. Oh, my God, he was right! We were alive! And we…!
"Oh, this is embarrassing now…" I said finally feeling the heat in my cheeks.
"Do you regret something of what you said?"
"I… I don't. Do you?"
"Not a word. Well… I regret having yelled at you."
"I would say it had a good development," I said beaming at him and repositioning myself so I can hug him comfortably and feel his warmth back.
That sweet and longed hug brought me totally back to life. That was paradise.
"Now I know I'm dead."
"No, dear Anna, you're not," Mr. Blue said tenderly. "And you did a great job. You both did."
"What job, Mr. Blue?" I asked intrigued.
"Almost letting us be killed is a good job?" Kristoff asked too more pissed than intrigued.
"Yes, it was!"
"What?!"
"Hans has long been suspected of sexual harassment at work, but we lacked evidence. A lot of research has been done on it, but nothing was ever clear. However, at one of the business meetings I attended to try to solve the problem, some bigwigs commented that the targets were always women who were insecure about themselves and who he tried to make believe that he was the only possibility they have for being something in life."
'Huh…'
"There were rumors that his succeeded romances were always accompanied by certain scams that caused severe problems for the heads of the companies. That day I thought of you and I knew you would help me."
"Because I am so pathetic that I would attract his attention?" I said crossing my arms indignantly.
"No, because I knew that he would see you lonely and would go for you."
"So I was a bait?"
"But not just any bait! I also knew you wouldn't be fooled by him and that you knew how to protect yourself, and, well, I figured Jasmine's entrance and her teaming up with Kristoff would stir things up."
"So you played with us," Kristoff clarified.
"Did you know, then, what we felt for each other?"
"I wonder if anyone here didn't know. Even Hans noticed it right away and so planted a more aggressive and faster than usual battle. Your link and your evident jealousy were what made him rush things and lose control."
"You could be right. From the beginning, he tried to turn me against Kristoff…"
"But I knew you guys are smarter than that, and I also knew that Kristoff wouldn't leave you alone. We just needed to give Hans a moment of intimacy with you to show his true intentions."
"And he did."
"Yes! And then, Kristoff appeared. Everything was going smoothly! A complaint with witnesses, and, finally, he would pay for his crimes. However…" His face turned gloomy. "I wasn't counting on the fridge thing. I am so sorry, guys. We immediately intercepted him, but he needed Elsa's hand to make him confess where you were… It took time."
"Are you saying…"
"Yes, the broken arm is a reality now, he's in custody, and you have to go testify. But, given the circumstances, you've been given a couple of days to recover and relax. Hans will wait patiently behind bars."
"So you had it all planned…"
"You have a right to be angry, and I will not complain if you retaliate against me. I didn't expect this to go this far, sorry."
"Fuck…" I said all pissed. "Elsa always takes the fun part…"
"Well, I'd say you've had your own fun in there too, haven't you?"
Kristoff and I looked at each other a little flushed. Mr. Blue was right: it had been worth the risk.
"He tried to get me to threaten to testify against you in order to buy the company from you for a ridiculous amount."
"I know. And, as I supposed, I did well trusting you. I am very proud of you and very happy to have you as a part of the staff. If you want to continue being part of it, of course."
I sighed.
"I would have preferred to know your plan beforehand, I'm not going to lie to you. I would have collaborated anyway and I wouldn't have felt used, but, you know? Thanks to all your goings-on, we have both managed to open our hearts. I owe you a lot, Mr. Blue."
"So, no demand?"
"Not on my part."
"What about you, Kristoff?"
"I won't sue you, but from now on, it might help you to stop organizing activities of dubious legality."
Mr. Blue laughed wide and heartily.
"Oh, Kristoff…" he said wiping a tear away. "Don't worry about me, I have enough money to buy any lawyer."
'Jeez… Luckily, his ideas are usually harmless.'
"Well, let's put everything aside and celebrate that everything turned out well! You guys have finally been honest; as I expected, Sven and Olaf are simply perfect for each other; and Jasmine and Al are celebrating it all on their own in the printer room. Oh, man, I love that boy…"
"Sven and Olaf?!" I asked puzzled while Kristoff watched me with that sexy smirk y wanted so bad.
"Yeah! They started dating today! Isn't life beautiful?!" Mr. Blue cheered.
So it wasn't just a feeling, I actually was the third wheel… Good for them!
"You are a genius, Mr. Blue," I admitted.
"I know! But call me genie, please. A free genie thanks to you."
He was probably the worst boss ever, but I loved that man.
"Let's go! We catch up with Elsa and the others and I invite you to the Moroccan restaurant on the corner!"
"Excuse me, Mr. Blue," Kristoff shyly said.
"Genie."
"Uh… Genie... Uhm... If she's okay with it, I would prefer to go with Anna to have lunch, uhm… you know… alone."
Okay, now that was real. He wanted to be alone with me. Kristoff wanted me, and I felt excited and euphoric. I would never cover my eyes again; I wouldn't give life another chance to get him off my side. I took his hand and squeezed it hard; our eyes met once more and I felt bathed in his warmth. My wish had come true.
"I would love it," I confirmed hardly believing my luck.
His smile widened and he squeezed my hand too.
"Ohhh! Your first date! Of course! Go, go, go!"
And, just like that, our particular genie pushed us toward the elevator willing to solve everything as quickly as possible to give us that special moment that we had been waiting for for so long. And hugs and tears flooded everything, and then peace, and then excitement, and then, holding hands, one step after another, Kristoff and I left 'The Magic Lamp' ready to live our whole new world.
