Kad's mouth was covered by a rough hand before he could scream. In the dark, the figure holding him was faceless, but a small flame soon illuminated the person in front. Her short hair seemed to glow like the fire he felt inside of her. "Don't scream." Kad nodded.

The hand left his mouth, but the figure didn't reveal itself yet. "Hello Flint."

"Hello Kad."

Once the lamps were lit the figure become a young man, around Kad's age. He sat in the corner with his eyes occasionally going to Flint. Finally, Kad decided to end the tense silence. "So, is this your brother, Flint?"

A simultaneous "No" filled the atmosphere.

"We have a history. Look, Kad, I can't tell you anything without putting you in danger. I didn't know where else to go. We needed a safe place for the night and you, " she looked into his eyes, " were my safest thought. We will be gone before your father wakes up." Flint regretted her decision to involve Kad. He could be considered an enemy to both the Equalist and Republic City for helping Flint and Mako.

"Hungry?" Kad smiled at Flint before turning his eyes to the mysterious guy in the corner chair. Both nodded minutely.

After their meal, Kad and Mako stood first watch. Flint snored rhythmically. "How do you know Flint?" Kad whispered. His curiosity was sparked when both of them made it clear they were not related.

"We have a history," Mako said laconically.

"She is your ex-girlfriend, then." The statement drew a look from Mako that was half disgust and half amusement. Mako snorted a laugh before shaking his head. A relieved sigh escaped Kad's lips. Flint was an enigma; she always arrived with fresh bruises or cuts, but doesn't look like a fighter. Her beauty wasn't evident unless you make her laugh and snort at the same time. Sometimes she could just look at him like he could possibly solve all her problems. As quickly as that was there, she would be leaving and not returning until the next set of injuries. Kad found himself trying to work out what he felt for her. When Mako's eyes had flickered to Flint and the jealousy burned his cheeks, Kad knew he felt something for Flint.

True to her word Mako and Flint were gone before him and his father were awake.

"This is where we split up." Mako began walking off in a familiar direction. He looked back to make sure she wasn't following. Despite their adventure together, Mako still didn't trust her. The escape and Kad could be part of the Equalist plan to capture the Avatar. He could not take that chance no matter how much she acted like she was innocent. He found her in their camp, for Spirit's sake!

He had gone a good distance before he had to whip around and block a fire attack. She punched him in the face. Seeing as they were still being pursued by the Equalist, Mako didn't make a sound. But her next attack, a kick to the gut, made him grunt in pain. "I. Helped. You." Between each word she kicked or punched and Mako blocked them all. "Trust. Me. Mako!"

The fear she harbored for him fueled the fire. She had given up Bolin for him. Now she had given up the Equalist for him. Going to Kad for any more help would put him in danger. There wasn't a soul in this City she could rely on and Mako wanted to just leave? How dare he? She attacked and attacked until the sweat dripped down into her eyes. Her limbed burned, but she wasn't going to let Mako get away with his selfish mistrust. Finally Mako grabbed her wrist, but she wasn't going to let that trick get her again, she twisted and flipped him on his back. He was dazed enough for her to sit on his chest with a fist of fire ready to strike him.

"What is it about me?" Flint's breath was nearly gone and the words were probably illegible, but Mako could answer this question.

Those amber eyes she had for so long been afraid of finally looked at her. "Bolin is all I have."

Flint extinguished the flame and put her fist down. She rolled off of him like a sack and laid there. "Bolin is all I have," she whispered before laughing hysterically. Snot came from her nose, tears welled in her eyes and she snorted so much it hurt. Mako stared at the sky to avoid looking at the mess next to him until she started playfully punching him. "What is so funny?" Hastily he stood and dusted off his back.

Flint gathered her breath long enough to say: "You are jealous of me."

"No!"

"Yes"

"No, I'm not."

"Yes you are." She reached a hand up, "Help me. Please Sir."

Reluctantly he pulled her up. "You are loud. Everyone probably heard you."

"Yeah."
