Something Blue
A/N: I am using the manga for reference for this story. If you are unfamiliar with their ages in the manga Usagi was born on June 30, 1978, and Mamoru was born on August 3, 1975. That makes them just under a 3 year age difference. So, when she turns 17, he is still 19 until August 3rd. In the manga, they are in the cauldron which makes star seeds (since they have all died, except Usagi, and were reborn in the cauldron), and from there Guardian Cosmos sends them to the 30th century.
Chapter 1: The Ring
She stood and looked around the cauldron, and smiled lightly at the Guardian of Cosmos.
"When they come here and ask to live their lives now in this physical form, can I ask that you send them back to the 21st century? I have talked to Pluto, this will only slightly alter the future, which has already been altered. They will still end up ruling the 30th century, and Usagi will be queen when she is 22. This will allow them to live a few more years as regular people, something I missed out on."
Cosmos looked at the Goddess standing before her, and nodded with knowing eyes "Yes Neo Queen Serenity, I can do that for you. Your past self will have everything she has dreamed of".
21st Century Tokyo
Mamoru
He was getting nervous, of course, he had started planning over the last 6 months since their return from the cauldron. She never once asked him about the ring on her finger, and he was grateful for that since he never got a chance to ask her when he first gave it to her. He wanted this to be special, to hold none of the negative memories that surrounded their past. They were headed for a bright wonderful future, and he was ready to start it with her. He knew what her answer would be of course, but that didn't stop him from feeling nervous, what if something went wrong? He wanted, no he needed, this to be perfect. She deserved it after all the pain she had been through. He had told the girls what his plan was, enlisted their help since he had started medical school in Japan, and had told Harvard that he had been in a bad car accident and that is why he hadn't responded. They of course offered him to come back, but he had turned it down, he didn't even ask her this time if it was ok. It wasn't ok with him, he could learn to be a doctor anywhere, and he knew that she would never say no to him going to America, and that is why he was ok with turning it down again. She would always allow him to do what he wanted, and what he wanted was to stay by her side from now on. He couldn't do that to her again, let alone himself. He had just told her that he was going to Keio University and never mentioned Harvard to her again.
"Minako, are you sure she knows what time to come here today?" Mamoru, ask the blonde wearing a red bow.
"Mamoru, it's her birthday, and we told her we were having a party for her. Of course, she will be here on time. When has she knowingly turned down cake? Plus, you told her you would be here, coming straight from classes. There is no way she wouldn't be here on time, well I mean for this, if it was to study, she would likely be late." Minako winked at him, and he gave a light chuckle.
"I know, I know, I just never expected to be so nervous." He said as he lit the last candle in front of the Hikawa Shrine.
It was a beautiful summer evening on June 30th, and the sun was just about to set. She should be here in 20 minutes, and his heart was pounding loudly in his chest. Minako walked over to Mamoru and squeezed him on his shoulder.
"You got this lover boy; I'll be inside with the other girls. Remember to breathe, since you are going to have to catch her if she faints. Cannot have both of you laying on the ground." She giggled, and walked into the Shrine, while he rolled his eyes.
He watched the sunset, took a big breath, closed his eyes and said a silent prayer.
Usagi
Usagi skipped along the sidewalk on her way to her birthday celebration with her friends. Wearing the dress Minako gave her as an early birthday present. She had told her that she should wear it tonight, since even though it wasn't a big party, Mamo-chan would like it. She was wearing a tight-fitting white halter dress, that had silver circles as a design under her bust. It reminded her somewhat of the dress she wore as Serenity. They hadn't kept her party a secret this time. They told her that for once they didn't want her to be late and therefore, she needed to know. Of course, just knowing that Mamo-chan would head straight from his college classes over to Rei's shrine, made her walk a little faster than even her friends could convince her. She was seeing him a lot less lately, she knew it was because his studies were quite intense, but to be honest, seeing him less was way better than not seeing him at all. She wouldn't tell him, but she was grateful that he was doing his medical studies in Tokyo and that he wasn't going to leave her again.
As she got closer to the shrine the sun had just set, and she thought she saw a flicker of shadows on the stairs going up. Terror instantly took hold and she stopped walking and clutched her chest. No this cannot be happening again, please tell me there isn't another enemy. Slowly she started walking toward the steps and realized almost instantly the shadows she saw were caused by the flickering of candles. On each side of the shrine steps, a single candle was lit on every second step all the way to the top. She had never seen this done before, and she smiled widely. Is this for me? It's only my 17th Birthday, I wonder why they are making such a big deal of this? She sighed and thought to herself that this was likely not for her, but it was still so beautiful she enjoyed the view as she climbed the steps.
Finally, she skipped her way to the top of the steps, but to her surprise, the candles didn't stop. They lined the pathway right to the entrance of the shrine, and standing in front of the steps was her boyfriend wearing a black dress shirt, and black pants holding a red rose.
"Mamo-Chan?" she whispered his name in a question.
Mamoru
Standing in front of him was the most beautiful sight he had ever seen. Usagi stood under the arch of the shrine wearing a white dress that hugged every curve of her body. The silver circles looked reminiscent of her royal dress, but unlike that dress which was floor-length, this one ended well above her knees. He gulped and watched her walk slowly towards him, her blue eyes full of emotion and question.
"Usako, you look absolutely stunning. Happy Birthday my princess." He breathed out, as she was almost upon him.
"Mamo-Chan did you do all of this for me?" she asked him standing right in front of him.
"Well, it is all for you, but I had some help from your friends". He handed her the rose, she held it to her nose and breathed in the scent, and he leaned in for a quick kiss. She stepped on her tippy-toes to meet him, and they kissed a sweet kiss. He noticed she was about to throw her arms around him, and pull him deeper as she often did. He pulled away quickly though before she could. She looked up at him with a question in her eyes, and he thought it was now or never. He lowered himself onto one knee and watched her eyes go wide, and her hand come over and cover her mouth.
"Usako, I have loved you from the moment I first laid eyes on you, in this lifetime and the past. I will always love you, and protect you with all of my heart". He pulled her tiny left hand into his hands and brushed the ring on her ring finger. "I gave you this ring, but I was never presented with a chance to ask you what this ring means. I know have that chance and I need to ask you an important question". Tears were running down her face, and she was trembling.
"Usa, will you make me the happiest man on Earth and become my wife"?
She pulled him to his feet and let the tears fall where they may, her voice shaken but clear she answered "Yes, a thousand lifetimes yes."
He leaned down and pulled her into his embrace for a deep passionate kiss. Somewhere in the distance, he could hear what sounded like a bunch of girls cheering. He wasn't focused on that though, but instead his now fiancé's tongue dancing with his own.
A/N:
The next chapter is already in the works, and this story is already planned out. What do you think so far? Could something else be about to happen that will also change their lives forever? Change may not always be bad though. Leave me some love (or hate that's fine too), tell me your thoughts, and feel free to share some ideas. I love to write romance, especially about my favourite couple Usa and Mamo.
