Prompt: "This Didn't Work Out as I Expected."
A/N: This one is a little visit with Kara and Cat Danvers-Grant from my "Conversations on a Balcony" fic.
Kara hovered herself an inch off the floor in a sincere effort to remain silent. She was trying to surprise Cat with an anniversary/get-out-of-the-dog-house gift since she'd been called away on a Supergirl mission, right in the middle of their anniversary dinner. Their very exclusive, took even Cat Grant three months to get a table, do I even want to know how much this is costing, dinner.
"Mew."
"Shhh!"
"MEW!"
"Ssshhhh!" Kara shook her head as she whispered. "You're going to give us away!"
"Too late."
The hero sighed as she touched down, a sheepish look on her face. "Hi, Honey."
Cat was leaning against the bedroom doorframe, wearing a short, silky lingerie piece that Kara had never seen before.
"WHAT is THAT?" The older woman pushed off the jamb and took a few menacing steps toward her wife. "Kara Danvers-Grant, do NOT tell me that you left our anniversary dinner to rescue a kitten from a tree?!"
"No, Baby, I swear!" the younger blonde protested. "It was an activities bus crash on the highway. I had to rescue some kids trapped inside. I just happened to find this little guy wandering around when I was on my way back."
"Girl."
Kara frowned. "Huh?"
"She's a female, Kara."
"Oh. Right." The Kryptonian nodded as she brought the tiny animal close to her face to kiss its head. "She's really cute, right? I was thinking we could just keep her until we find a home for her."
Cat crossed her arms, one eyebrow hiked. "You seriously think the kids are going to let her go after they find out about her? Liv especially will have a conniption and we'll have to listen to Abby and Ben begging for a dog again!"
The hero swallowed. "You look really gorgeous in that teddy," she said, reaching out to slyly slide the strap off her wife's shoulder.
"I bought it for you," Cat purred in reply. She leaned in and kissed Kara's cheek, then her lips. "It's just a pity that you won't get to take advantage of it tonight." Then she took the kitten from her wife's arms and went into the bedroom, casting a look back over her shoulder. "Doghouse." Then she shut the door behind her.
Kara just sighed and shook her head. "That didn't work out at all as I expected."
But then the bedroom door opened again, and a hand crooked a finger at her. "Get in here."
The hero grinned and followed her wife to the bed. The kitten was already situated in a low drawer in the dresser and was snuggled in one of Kara's sweaters. "Awwww... I love you, Cat-El."
A sexy smirk lifted the older woman's lips. "Prove it."
