Sweet Dreams
In the Hideout:
"Rune?"
I rolled over. With her flower hanging from a root in the ceiling, I could just make out May's figure curled up against the opposite wall. A bed of moss and leaves lay beneath her.
"What is it?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.
"Are we ever going to get off Neverland?"
"I think we can defeat Pan, yeah."
"Rune, that's not what I was asking."
"...Once we defeat Pan, you should be able to go home."
"Ok." There was some rustling as she readjusted. "It'll be nice to go back home. I miss my parents. And I'm always so nervous here."
"I know how you feel." I sighed. "I can't even step outside without feeling like someone is watching me."
"At least we found a good spot to live."
"Yeah, thank goodness for that."
May fell quiet, so I rolled over again and closed my eyes. There weren't any chirping or buzzing bugs at night, which was odd, but the waves crashing against the mountainside made up for it. Usually, it was loud enough to drown out our conversations, leaving anyone outside clueless to our whereabouts.
There was more shuffling, and then a yawn. "Rune, I can't sleep."
Sighing, I sat up and pulled my cloak around tighter. Like her, I had a makeshift mattress made from whatever comfortable material we could find, but neither of us had blankets, and the stone room was still cold at night.
"Is there something else bothering you?"
"I just… I can't stop thinking about the ocean."
"Did you have a bad dream about it or something?"
"No. But I can't stop thinking about the portrait Felix gave you. Did Peter really take it from Captain Hook?"
"That's what he told me."
"Well, once I overheard Rumplestiltskin and Mother talking. He said that if they wanted to still have me, they needed to make sure I never got to the ocean."
"And Captain Hook is a pirate," I realized, nodding slowly. "So you're probably wondering if you have any connection to him."
"Yes, exactly."
I blew out a puff of air and thought. "I guess that's always possible, but that sounds unlikely. Maybe he's your uncle? That could be why he's got a picture of you. You two were never allowed to meet."
"Perhaps, but I don't understand why Rumplestiltskin would tell my parents not to let me see the ocean."
"Maybe he just really hates Captain Hook?"
"I don't know…"
"But, it would be weird for him to make a request to your parents without a connection. Even if you aren't family, there's something there. Enemies, past lovers, old friends, something."
"Yes, that sounds right," she agreed. "But Rumplestitskin is known for his odd payments. I gave him a strand of my hair."
I shrugged. "Tell you what, if I ever come across Captain Hook or Rumplestitskin guy, I'll see if I can get any answers."
I could just make out her smile. "Thank you, Rune."
"Of course. Now try and get some sleep."
"Alright. Good night, Rune."
"Good night. Sweet dreams."
With that, I curled back up and fell asleep.
Notes: Tada! Hopefully you enjoyed!
Like I said, I'm totally open to requests! If there's an interaction you want to see, just put it in the reviews! I dunno how often I'll post things here, so expect random updates. Thanks for taking the time to read!
