Lily Evans stood in the entrance of the Gryffindor boys' dormitory. Her red hair was positively askew, her robes slightly disheveled, and her eyes enshrouded with a raw desperation. She stared intensely at the hazel-eyed, dark-haired boy at the other side of the doorway.
"James Potter," she addressed him. She couldn't tell if her voice shook from nervousness or from climbing the six flights of stairs to reach his doorstep. "James Pottter, I need you to fuck me."
It started on a regular Tuesday afternoon. Lily Evans had just finished Potions class, and found herself completely and utterly exhausted after a long day of studying and Head Girl responsibilities. She wandered up the stairs to her dormitory, thinking about the soft embrace of her sheets, the warmth of her comforter. When she got to the top of the stairs, she breathed a quick sigh of relief. Finally, a moment of rest.
When she opened up the door to her room, she discovered something quite different and rather more chaotic than she had expected.
Sprawled on the floor of the dormitory were Lily's roommates, along with several other Gryffindor girls. Mary Macdonald stood on the right side of the room, adjusting a cassette tape loudly blasting The Weird Sisters' newest album.
Marlene McKinnon sat in the middle of the room, stuffing her face with chocolate frogs from what appeared to be a large platter of various desserts.
Victoria Hawthorne sat right at the foot of Lily's bed, reading Witches Weekly.
Emmeline Vance huddled with Teresa Carmichael underneath a fuzzy blanket as the two talked among themselves and giggled fervently.
And Eden Dearborn sat on the ground adjacent to them, keeping primarily to herself.
"Lily!" Marlene shouted at the sight of her friend, not allowing her mouth half-full of chocolate to prevent her excited exclamation.
"What's all this commotion about?" Lily asked, glancing around the room as if she couldn't quite believe everyone was actually there.
"We're having a girls night," Mary smiled, as she sat on the floor next to Eden.
"On a Tuesday?" Lily asked incredulously.
"Is that such a crime?" Marlene laughed, as she reached for the platter of desserts and grabbed another chocolate frog.
Victoria looked up from her magazine, and glanced at Lily. "We're trying to make a fun girls afternoon for Eden. Connor just broke up with her." Victoria put her magazine on the ground beside her, and looked at Lily, waiting for her reaction.
Lily glanced at Eden. Eden's face contained a sadness that Lily, in her tiredness, had not noticed the first time she had glanced at her friend and roommate.
"Oh Eden, I am so sorry to hear that," Lily looked at her friend sympathetically.
"It's fine," Eden responded, though her eyes started to brim with tears.
"We're currently trying to think of ideas to have some fun and to not think about Connor anymore," Marlene piped us. "Join us, Lils." Marlene fervently patted to the ground next to her.
At this point, Lily did not have much of a choice. Mentally bidding an afternoon lying in her bed goodbye, Lily plopped on the floor next to Marlene. She noticed, as she sat there, that all the girls sat in more or less of a circle around her dormitory floor.
"Yes," Emmeline piped up, "And everything is so glum these days. Between the war, N.E.W.T.s and break-ups, everything is far too bleak. We need something to cheer us up!"
Emmeline's statements frustrated Lily slightly. Sure, everything was bleak, but thinking they could escape the horrors of war or the pressure of their upcoming exams seemed rather, well, naive. And not to mention, extremely privileged. Lily wanted to point out that Emmeline's mindset was a much easier mindset for her, as a pureblood, but before the words could come tumbling out of her mouth, Lily glanced at her friend. Eden's eyes had continued to water with tears, and she dabbed a few small drops of water from her eyes before they spilled down her face.
"Yes, yes I agree," Lily nodded and smiled. "So what are everyone's ideas?"
"I suggested we could throw a massive rager in the Gryffindor Common Room this weekend," Victoria suggested. "But Marlene reminded me that the Marauders were already hosting a party this Saturday, so we wouldn't want to compete with them."
Lily rolled her eyes. James Potter and his friends constantly dominated the social scene at Hogwarts. From the start of first year, legends of their escapades floated around campus, captivating students from every year and blood status. When they started hosting parties in fifth year, every single person in the whole school wanted to witness the crazy antics the group of boys would engage in to throw a party people would talk about for months to come. In one of their most famous parties last year, Sirius had managed to procure muggle fireworks and have them go off - inside. He had created some sort of spell to prevent them from hurting everyone. And, miraculously, only one person had serious injuries from that party.
"What if we had some sort of tournament, or series of games?" Mary suggested.
"Ooo, I like where this is headed!" Marlene exclaimed.
"Yes," Mary smiled. "Like every night we could come back here and have different rounds of exploding snaps, with brackets and tournaments and medals for the -"
"Oh, that's not the kind of game I was thinking about at all," Marlene interjected, a mischievous smile forming on her face.
"What were you thinking, Marl?" Victoria asked.
"A game where we compete to see who can get the most men!"
With that statement, chaos erupted throughout the whole room. Teresa, the only sixth year in the group, looked up incredulously. "A shagging competition?!" she exclaimed in disbelief.
Mary at the same time had been quick to lecture Marlene, "Seriously, Marlene? How did you get something so dirty from something so innocent?"
Even Lily added her own two cents, interjecting with a simple, disappointed, "Marlene."
"No, no, it doesn't have to be shagging," Marlene defended herself. "It could be anything physical, kissing, touching, suck -"
"Marlene, enough!" Mary cut off her dark-haired friend. "This is getting gross."
Marlene shrugged, a look of indignant resignation spreading across her face.
"I actually like the idea," a small, unsure voice peeped up from the right side of the room. Eden looked down as she spoke, as if she was trying not to draw too much attention to herself.
"You see, Eden likes my idea!" With this exclamation, Marlene sent Mary a hostile glare.
"Well, I just think it would be nice to take my mind off of Connor. And what better way to show him I've moved on than getting with other boys?" Eden's voice grew increasingly more confident as she spoke, as if she herself became more confident in the idea.
That sounds totally healthy. Lily couldn't help but think to herself. She knew if she muttered these words aloud she would not only undermine Eden's valid feelings, but she would also get silenced because of her own lack of experience with break-ups. Lily Evans had one boyfriend in her whole time at Hogwarts, in her whole life, in fact. And to call him a boyfriend would certainly be a stretch. His name was Oliver Atkinson, and he was a fourth year Gryffindor at the end of Lily's fifth year. They started hanging out toward the end of the term, and Oliver asked Lily to Hogsmeade a few times. Lily had happily accepted, and thoroughly enjoyed his company. Sadly, when summer break began, Lily and Oliver slowly lost touch. They didn't have a malicious falling out, they simply did not keep up the effort necessary to stay together.
Besides Oliver, Lily had one drunken make-out session with Johnathan Creevey during the Marauder's infamous Christmas party in sixth year, and an occasional invitation to Madam Puddifoot's for an evening on their Hogsmeade weekends. And of course, James Potter had asked her out twice in the middle of fifth year. Lily did not want to think about that, about Severus and James and her complicated relationship with both men, but she could not deny that after her rejection of James, her invitations to Madam Puddifoot's definitely increased. By a sadly large amount.
"Okay, well if we were to do a competition like that, what would the rules be?" Emmeline piped up, joining the conversation.
"One time some of the boys in our year played, and these were their rules. You get one point if you kiss a guy, two points if you go past kissing. Boobs, touching, you know. Three points for oral, and four points for sex," Marlene looked up at everyone, her face prepared to receive insults for this knowledge.
"What if you're in a relationship?" Victoria questioned. Everyone knew she had been casually seeing this seventh year Hufflepuff, but rumor had it they were beginning to be a little bit more serious.
Marlene shrugged. "None of the guys who played were dating anyone, that was kind of the point."
"Well, it wouldn't be fair if someone got four points every time they shagged their boyfriend," Eden piped up.
Marlene nodded, and so did everyone else. "I think for points to count every one needs to be a new guy," Marlene admitted.
"Marlene, we all know you're going to win," Mary sighed.
"Hey, I feel like that was uncalled for!" Marlene snapped back. "But probably true," she muttered under her breath.
"So we should have some sort of motivation so Marlene doesn't just win!" Victoria exclaimed.
"Like what?" Emmeline asked.
"What if we put money down?" Marlene asked.
"Money? Like actual gold?" Mary retorted.
"Sure, why not? It will make it more fun for everyone!" Marlene asserted.
"How much?" Teresa asked. "I'm not sacrificing my Gringotts account to Marlene McKinnon's whore fund."
Everyone laughed at Teresa's comment.
"What about five galleons a piece? The winner can take home thirty-five galleons. That is, if we all play." Marlene glanced around the room, once more donning her mischievous glare. "Mary, are you in?"
"I guess, I'm going to lose but might as well have some fun," Mary shrugged her shoulders. Lily was surprised Mary agreed.
"Victoria?" Marlene looked at the blonde witch.
"Sure," Victoria reached over Marlene's shoulders and grabbed some cake from the dessert platter as she voiced her consent.
"Emmeline? Teresa?"
"Sure."
"I'm fine with that."
Lily held her breath. She wanted to participate in the game, but she knew all of her friends would beat her. And she would be the one at the bottom of the list and lose her money. But Eden needed help, and Lily wanted to be there for her friend. Plus, was it so bad to have some sort of monetary motivation to get herself out there? On some level, Lily did want some romance, some intrigue going on in her life.
"Lils?" Marlene's hazel eyes twinkled as she glanced at Lily.
"I'm in," Lily grinned, taken aback by her own assuredness.
"Lily Evans!" Marlene whooped, placing her hand on Lily's shoulder.
"Our own head girl," Victoria declared in faux surprise.
Lily smiled. As much as she hated to admit it, this game really was working. She couldn't wait to put herself out there. And she knew the perfect time to begin. The Marauder's party on Saturday.
