Chapter 5 A New Future (Finale)
A.N. – Bonus chapter time! This chapter was not with the original idea, but the submitter requested it, so here it is. This chapter focuses on the future the got rewritten by the twins after they stopped the attack that destroyed their world. Let's begin the finale!
Short Summary – Jeremy and Aelita have a dinner with Jeremy's parent's and Aelita's mother, and the twins babysit the baby versions of themselves. But during the dinner, Jeremy's mom starts to get suspicious of Erina and decides to see if she's right.
Disclaimer – I do not own Code Lyoko or the story idea. I am just a fan of the show, and the idea was submitted by James Marshall.
Months have passed since Erin and Erina saved their future and the current versions of themselves were born. Within this time, Xana was defeated, and everyone ended with their partners. Ulrich ended up with Yumi, and Odd ended up with Sam. Jeremy and Aelita stayed together and raised their children with Erin and Erina helping them along the way. Even though watching a younger version of themselves grow up was weird, they felt this was somehow right. But eventually, they would have to get out of their lives before they started questioning why they were alike.
Tonight was Christmas night and everyone, except the twins, would have a nice dinner. The twins however volunteered to watch the current versions of themselves. Jeremy and Aelita felt bad for having them do this for them, but for the best interest of everyone, it was better to not let the parents see them and draw connections. Jeremy's parents were first to arrive and soon after Aelita's mom arrived.
The twins were in their current version's bedroom, changing their diapers currently.
"Do you find it weird that we are taking care of ourselves?" Erin asked his sister.
"We just have to set them on the right path and Jeremy and Aelita will do the rest. I mean they raised us with no help, except from when Odd, Yumi, and Ulrich were still alive" Erina responds.
"Question is, where do we go once we leave?"
"Anywhere we can make a life for ourselves without them finding us."
"Can we trust Jeremy and Aelita not to tell them?"
"If they do, what is the chance they will believe them."
"Hopefully very low. We need to be ghosts in their eyes."
As everyone was outside having a nice dinner, Jeremy's parents were suspicious why they would leave their twin baby boy and girl in the care of two twins they only met a few months ago. Even though this was making them uneasy they put aside to enjoy the family meal.
Erin and Erina put the current version of themselves to sleep and decide to check on the family dinner. They appear in the doorway behind Jeremy's parents and find it hard to believe that they are actually alive. They both smile knowing that this only possible because of them.
"Guess we can say we finally met them" Erin says.
"Yeah. It was hard to hear Xana murdered them a few months after our birth" Erina adds.
"And yet, our parents still raised us."
"Can't even imagine going through that future again."
"It was all because of you, we saved the world from the clutches of Xana."
"It wasn't all me. If Aelita didn't download the data to me before our departure, we would be in the same situation we were in the other timeline."
"I think she did that, because she knew that if we didn't change the timeline that much, she wouldn't succeed."
"Yeah, so she crowned me as the new princess of Lyoko."
At one point, Jeremy's mom quickly looked over her shoulder and caught a quick glimpse of their future grandchildren. She then notices how the female looks a lot like their son and how the male looks a lot like their daughter-in-law. 'Are they a future version of our grandchildren? They look very similar to Jeremy and Aelita?' Jeremy's mom thought. She decided to see if she can bait Jeremy and Aelita into telling them the twins' true identities.
"So, these twins you two met, how did you meet them?" Jeremy's mom asks.
"Oh, they ran a café at Kadic for a few months to pay off the building costs. After that, we just became good friends" Jeremy says, revealing part of the truth.
"Really now, because it seems weird that you would trust them in a span of a few months to watch your two twins?"
"Okay, here's the truth. The twins somehow got accidentally stranded here. They knew our future selves and asked for our help."
"We wanted to keep this under wraps, so we don't get labeled or try to have people target them for any weird reason. We are trying to help them get back home" Aelita adds.
They were both growing a concern that if she was to put two and two together, it could cause problems. Luckily, they were able to avoid mentioning Xana or anything else that could cause issues. Also, it was enough for them to trust the twins. Jeremy's mom still wasn't convinced this was the full truth. She now knows that Jeremy and Aelita will not tell, but maybe the twins will.
The twins on the other hand, were convinced they had no reason to be suspicious of them. They were about to walk away, until Erina grabbed her brother's arms.
"Should we introduce ourselves?" Erina asks.
"Why?" Erin questions.
"Be nice. Obviously, they are convinced that we are not related to mom and dad in any way, shape or form."
"Maybe, but it doesn't feel right. Especially Jeremy's mom who glanced at us. She looked at us suspiciously. And one thing I learned from our time fighting Xana, is to never trust anyone like that, friend or foe."
"I see what you're saying. But if she is convinced enough, there is no harm."
"Or we could avoid of all of that by doing nothing."
"Come on, don't you want to hangout and with the grandparents we never knew."
"That's the thing. If we confess who we really are, we could be causing problems in the future. First rule of time travel, never change the past."
"We did and look what happened. We may never go home. Our reality may not even exist anymore."
"Then why do we still exist."
"I believe we are now a part of this timeline, so we kinda co-exist in both, but the one we came from may be erased and now our lives merge into this one. So, I say we enjoy it, because if our original timeline exists, and we somehow go back and it's worse, I want to know I died happily knowing my parents and grandparents."
Erina steps forward behind her parents and Jeremy's mom notices. Jeremy and Aelita don't notice, and Jeremy's mom speaks up. "Ah, hello young lady, or should I say Erina?" Jeremy and Aelita are shocked to know that she knows her name. At this time, Erina wonders if this was the best idea. Erin looks on and has 'I told you so' look on his face. Then she says something which shocks all of them. "Or should that be the 19-year-old version of my future granddaughter Erina?"
Erina looks completely shocked and them smiles before asking her the question. "Okay, who told you? How could you know who I was? Even where I am from?" Erina looks at Jeremy and Aelita, wondering if what they told them made her more suspicious and somehow, she figured it out. At this point, Jeremy and Aelita both have their heads in their hands, possibly fearing how this can get worse.
"No one told me. You just did, my granddaughter."
"I guess I did." Erin comes in at this point.
"Erina, I told you it was a bad idea and look what happened" Erin scolds his sister.
"And I'm guessing you're the future version of the twin brother Erin" Jeremy's mom tells him.
"Was it that obvious?"
"The way you were scolding her seems like a way only a sibling would do."
"We tried to make as less suspicious as possible" Aelita says.
"But somehow my mom figured it out" Jeremy adds.
"No, I just baited my granddaughter into spilling the beans" Jeremy's mom reveals.
"Hold on, how are you and we can be sure that this is true?" Jeremy's father asks.
"I agree, time travel doesn't exist. I know my husband was a genius, but even he couldn't achieve this" Aelita's mom adds.
"What can we do to convince you?" Erina asks.
"How about each of you say something that only we would know?" Jeremy's mom suggests.
The twins were thinking of something they learned about their parents that only their grandparents would also know. Erina suddenly thought of something. "My mother was the only girl my father could talk to and about without freezing up."
"That's true. Yeah, we could talk to Jeremy about her, and he would sound confident. When we talked to him about other girls, he would just stutter."
"What different about me compared to other girls?" Aelita asks Jeremy.
"Maybe you're the first one to listen to me" Jeremy tells her.
"The only reason why I listened to you is because you were my savior. You saved my life more than one time. I'm pretty sure if it were Odd, Ulrich, or William it would be the same situation."
"Not Yumi?"
"Not romantically. I would just see her as a good friend, like I do now."
"If Ulrich or Odd found you, would you end up with them?"
"Ulrich, probably not. Odd is questionable. I think I would have found you either way."
They both smile at this.
Erin was still thinking about something. "Aelita turned down a full paid scholarship to study music."
"That's right. When I was talking to her recently, she did say that she was considering it, but when the deadline approached, she declined" Aelita's mother answered.
"You did?" Jeremy asks.
"Yeah, it was physically demanding. I couldn't do it. Besides, if I did, we wouldn't be where we are today and we also wouldn't have Erin or Erina."
The twins sit down, with the concern of them being false now gone.
"So, I guess we have a lot to talk about" Jeremy's mom suggests.
"It depends. What do you want to know?" Erina asks.
"Well, we'd like to hear about how you arrived here and what for?"
"I think Jeremy and Aelita have a little backstory to tell you first, then we can tell you what you want to hear. Just be warned, when we explain the original timeline, it might be a little depressing" Erin says.
The parents, grandparents, and future version of the twins all talk about the past, now gone future, and everything else in between. Even though the twins from a different time period, they saved everyone's lives and gave everyone a new future and a brand-new life, as well as the happy future of their current selves.
A.N. – And thus ends this fan submitted story. Next, I will be doing one of my own. This story was originally planned to be story #15 and I only done 12 of mine. The only reason why I'm doing it early is because the original source of the idea is now gone and my memory of it is running short, so I must get it out quickly. PM me with story ideas if you have any! Don't forget to review with final questions or comments! I will respond! Stay safe and healthy out there! As always, till next time!
