The day I met Bella Swan was the day after she came to live with her dad, Charlie Swan. Charlie is the Chief of Police here in Forks and we live across the street from the Swans. Charlie was always kind to me and my family. Specially after my dad passed two years ago. I never met Bella because when she used to live here, my family lived in Seattle. We moved to Forks five years ago so that mom and dad can open another dance studio. They opened it in Port Angeles because that city is bigger and more popular than Forks. Forks is safer and offer better housing.

Mom said it was a good idea to meet the returning resident of Forks. Mom baked an apple pie, and we made our way across the street. I ringed the doorbell and waited for our neighbor to open the door. Charlie opened the door and invited us inside. Bella was your average teenage girl and very quiet. We talked about our favorite books, movie and music genres, and hobbies. We exchanged phone numbers and email addresses. She was a bit disappointed that I was home schooled and wouldn't see her at school on Monday. I was a Freshman anyway so I wouldn't share any classes with her anyway. I was thrilled that we shared the same birth month-September. I was born on the 9th and Bella on the 13th. Bella and I hanged out a few times and then Edward Cullen captured all of her attention. I was happy for her and excited that she had a boyfriend. Edward was a bit strange and way too pale for my liking. Could he be a vampire? As summer came and went our relationship slowly faded. I just became the girl that lived across the Swans with her mom. I was comfortable with that until the Cullens left town. Then my life became complicated.

My name is Diana Sarah Allen and I'm going to tell you how I met the love of my life. All thanks to Bella Swan and her dangerous life choices.

I celebrated my 16th birthday in Denver with the rest of the Sterling clan-mom's side of family. Last time we all got together, it was for Grandpa's 65th birthday. At the time dad was still alive and auntie Mel was married to her husband. Two years feels like a lifetime ago. I have managed to grieve and move on thanks to therapy and support from my family and friends. 16th birthdays are very important to my family because that's when we get our mark.

We come back on Bella's birthday, and I send her a text message congratulating her on becoming a legal adult. I assume she doesn't want to make a big deal out of it because she didn't invite me to a party. I didn't invite her to mine either but that's because the party was in a different state. The day after her birthday something unexpected happens.

I'm leaving to go on my afternoon run and I see Edward Cullen and Bella go into the woods. I wasn't worried because that's not the first time they have done that. After my run I come home, take a shower, and work on my homework. Mom was home from the dance studio and was cooking dinner. Our house phone rings, and mom answers it. She calls me into the kitchen.

"What's going on?" I ask while I fill up a glass with water.

"Have you seen Bella?"

"Not since this afternoon. Why?"

"Chief Swan is on the phone and Bella is missing. Can you tell him what you just told me?" mom asks while passing the phone to me. I nod and take the receiver from her.

"Hello sir. It's Diana. Mom said Bella is missing. What's going on? I saw her this afternoon."

"Hi Diana. I'm sorry to bother you but Bella isn't home and not answering her phone. Where and what time did you see her last?"

"It's no bother at all! I saw her at your house, and it was around three o'clock. I was leaving to go on my afternoon run, and I saw her, and Edward go into the woods behind the house."

"Into the woods? With Edward Cullen?" Chief Swan asks surprised at the information I give him.

"Yes sir. I didn't think it was strange because that's not the first time they have gone into the woods. I assumed she'll be back by now. Did I do something wrong? Is she in danger?" I panicked thinking she might be injured or dead. There has been a lot of animal attacks and I'm worried Bella is hurt.

"No, you didn't do anything wrong. The Cullen family left Forks today. I'll have my officers check their house again. Do me a favor? If you get a call or text from Bella, please let me know." Charlie begs.

"Of course! I'll let you know right away." I promise and Charlie gives his thanks to me and my mom and he ends the call.

I get my cell phone and call Bella. After a few rings it goes to voicemail. I leave a message asking where she is and to call me once she gets this message. I send a text message too just in case. We eat our dinner in silence. Both of us worried something bad has happened to Bella. I keep checking my phone to make sure it's not on silent and has enough battery.

After an hour I see a lot of cars pulling into the Swan residence's lot. People are moving around and creating a search party. Mom and I go over and offer to help. The weather is getting colder by the minute, and I can't help but zip up my jacket. I hope Bella is warm. I think to myself as I look around all the volunteers.

"Thank you for coming Regina. Diana, have you heard anything from Bella yet?" Chief Swan says once he sees us approaching. I shake my head no and he sighs sadly. He turns to an older Native American man, and they look over a map. Pointing to areas where Bella might be.

Mom is walking around and talking to people she knows. She turns to me and says, "Honey, can you make coffee and bring it over for the volunteers?" I nod my head and make my way back to our house. My head is down in thought, and I run into another person. I look up and I'm surprised to see a Native American teenager with long hair. I can't tell whether he is from the Quileute or Makah Tribe.

"I'm so sorry! Are you okay? I don't usually run into people." I say quickly and he chuckles at my attempt to apologize.

"Sure, sure. It's no problem. Are you okay? You seem stressed." he says with a hint of worry. I'm surprised because he is a stranger and wants to know if I'm okay. I'm the one who ran into him.

"Isn't everyone? Bella is missing and we can't get a hold of the Cullens. There have been so many animal attacks lately. I'm worried something has happened to her." I say and try to keep my tears from falling. I don't want to cry in front of a stranger.

"If Bella is out there, we'll find her. Sam Uley is here, and he is a great tracker. I'm not the guy's biggest fan but he is good at what he does. I'm Jacob Black by the way. What's your name?"

"Diana Allen." I say and shake his hand. "Do you want something to drink or eat? I was about to make coffee for the volunteers."

He nods and we go across the street to my house. The door is unlocked, and we go into the kitchen. I fill the coffee maker with water and coffee and hit the start button. I turn back to Jacob and say, "Mi casa es tu casa. There are snacks in the pantry and drinks in the fridge. Do you need a cup? Have you eaten dinner yet? We have some meatloaf I can heat up for you."

He opens the fridge and takes out a coke. He pops it open and takes a sip. "Yeah! I had dinner… thanks. So how do you know Bella?" he asks curiously while looking around the kitchen.

I take out our two coffee thermoses that we use during camping and rinse them using water. Coffee maker is finished, and I start to fill up the first thermos. "We are neighbors. How do you know her?"

I grab some plastic cups, a box of sugar packets, a box of creamers, and some napkins from the pantry. I throw away the coffee filter and put a new filter in and start the process all over again. The first batch only filled the first thermos and half of the second one. Jacob watches me as I work around the kitchen and finishes his drink.

"Family friend. I've known her for years. We used to make mud pies."

"Cute! So, you must know about Edward?" I ask curiously and he frowns. He nods silently and goes to throw away the can.

"Stop! We recycle those. Give it to me and I'll take care of it." I say while reaching for the can. He smirks and hands me the can. "What?" I ask when I see him smirking.

"Nothing." He says and leans against the counter. Crossing his arms over his chest.

The coffee maker beeps signaling that it's done. I fill up the second thermos and grab a large serving tray. I put the thermoses, cups, sugars, creamers, and napkins on the tray. I try to pick up the tray, but Jacob beats me to it. I shake my head no and try to grab the tray, but Jacob moves out of the way.

"I got it. Can you get the door though?" he says with a small smile. I sigh and nod my head. I go ahead of him and open the door for him. After he walks through, I follow him and close the door behind us. We make our way across the street again and mom walks over to us.

"Hello. Who is this, Diana? Did you trick him into helping you?" mom says jokingly and winks at Jacob.

I blush and say, "Mom! I didn't trick him. He is one of the volunteers…I think. His name is Jacob Black."

Jacob laughs and says, "Nice to meet you Mrs. Allen. I'm happy to help. Your daughter offered to heat up meatloaf for me. It was more of a bribe really."

Mom laughs too and says, "Ah I see. And Regina is fine. We live in a small town. Formality is unnecessary."

I look between the pair in shock and shake my head. "I can't believe you two!" I start to walk away, and mom and Jacob follow me. Mom loudly announces that coffee is here and if anyone wants any to come by. I stand back a few feet and sigh. Jacob puts the tray on top of the hood of a truck and comes over to me.

He grins and says, "Sorry about that. I just couldn't help myself. The look on your face was priceless."

I roll my eyes and say, "Good to know I amuse you." I turn my head to the woods and sigh again.

"Don't worry. They'll find her."

I'm suddenly filled with rage at that remark. I turn to him and angrily say, "Is everything a joke to you? Bella could be hurt or worse…dead! The temperature is decreasing by the minute. Even if she is alive, she will freeze by morning. And it's all my fault."

Jacob is shocked at my outburst and gasps. I feel a tear drop and wipe it away quickly. Angry and ashamed that he saw me cry. I walk over to the Swan house and sit on the steps. The steps are cold and wet, but I don't care. Jacob follows me and sits next to me.

"Leave me alone!" I say while glaring at the ground. After a few minutes of silence Jacob sighs.

"Look, I'm really sorry if I upset you. But it's not your fault. Bella was with Edward. You can't blame yourself."

I stay silent and another tear falls. I wipe it away again and say softly, "I should've said something to her or stopped her. The woods are dangerous. Specially now! I should've told Charlie or my mom. If someone knew she went into the woods, they could've started the search party hours ago."

I feel Jacob's gaze on me but keep my head down. He sighs sadly and says, "But Bella chose to go into the woods, knowing the risks involved. It's not your fault. And blaming yourself won't fix the situation."

I grit my teeth and say, "I didn't ask nor need your opinion, Jacob. Why don't you go bother someone else?"

I feel his glare on the side of my head but ignore it. He gets up and goes toward the truck that the coffee tray is on. I look up and a Native American man on a wheelchair is staring at me. He waves hello but I ignore him and get up to go home. Angry but also guilty about the way I treated Jacob.

As I'm about to cross the street a shirtless man comes out of the wood carrying Bella. Jacob calls Charlie as I run over to the group. I'm glad she is found and safe. I'm shocked that the man carrying Bella isn't freezing to death. It's mid-September but nights are cold in Forks. He too is a Native American. Charlie takes Bella into the house and comes out to thank everyone who came out tonight and helped. Mom calls out to me, and I see her holding the coffee tray. I tell her I'll meet her at the house soon.

I quickly scan the crowd for Jacob, and I see him with the man on the wheelchair. The man was talking to the shirtless guy who found Bella. I walk over to them and say, "Jacob, can I talk to you?"

He turns towards me and groans. I turn to the other two men and say, "Sorry to interrupt. I'm Diana Allen. I live across the street from the Swans. Can I borrow Jacob for a minute?"

The man in the wheelchair nods and smiles at me. "Sure. It's nice to meet you, Diana. I'm Billy Black. Jacob's father. Thank you for the coffee." He extends his hand for me to shake, and I shake his hand. I smile and say, "It's no problem at all. It was just coffee. I hope it was to your liking."

"Yes. It was delightful. Have you met Sam Uley?" Billy asks while looking at the shirtless man. I turn to him, and his face is stoic. He doesn't extend his hand like Billy does and he looks like he wants to get out of here. I ignore his hostility and extend my hand to him.

"Thank you for finding Bella Mr. Uley." Suddenly Jacob grabs my wrist and says, "Yeah yeah. Sam saved the day."

He starts to drag me away from his father and Sam while ignoring my protest. He stops and turns to me. "What do you want? Came to yell at me more?"

I pull my wrist from his grip and say, "No, I came to apologize. But by the looks of it I should go apologize to Sam instead. That was very rude Jacob. You can't just drag people away in middle of a conversation."

He rolls his eyes and scoffs, "You should be thanking me! I just saved you from Sam. He's bad news. Believe me!"

I frown and sarcastically say, "Who is he? The devil? And who died and made you a knight in shining armor. I don't need your help. I can take care of myself." Jacob glares at me and I glare back at him.

"You know what? This was a mistake! Have a goodnight, Jacob." I say while walking away. I walk by Mr. Black and Sam, and apologize to Sam. I bid goodnight to both men and walk across the street. I enter my house and slam the door. Mom comes out of the kitchen.

"Why are you slamming the door?" she asks me with her hands on her hips. I groan sadly and apologize to her. We walk into the kitchen together.

"He is so annoying! I can't believe Bella is friends with that jerk!" I say while I grab a cup to fill it with water.

"Who?" mom asks as she is washing the thermoses.

"Jacob Black." I say and drink my water in silence.

Mom hums but doesn't comment. I put the glass in the dishwasher. I sigh and tell her goodnight. She gives me a kiss on my forehead and bids me goodnight. I make my way upstairs and get ready for bed. As I'm lying-in bed, I remember that Sam has a tattoo on his right arm. I can't help but touch my own that is over my left breast. Right over my heart! Is he like me? Does he know about vampires? I shake the thoughts away and try to get some sleep. Tomorrow is a long day and it's almost midnight. I make a mental note to research this later.

I dream about a giant russet-colored wolf, and he is standing in front of me. I'm not afraid of it but I don't want it to be near me. It steps closer and I step back and walk away. He starts to howl, and I turn around. He gives me a sad look and pleads with his eyes that I come to him. I shake my head and turn around. He lets out a pained howl and I began to cry as I walk away. I hear beeping and it's getting louder.

I jump awake and realize it's my alarm. I turn off my alarm and run a hand over my face. My hand becomes wet, and I realize I was crying in my sleep. I go into my bathroom and take a hot shower. The rest of the day I'm distracted by the strange dream.

AN: Hi guys! I hope you liked chapter 1. Leave a review and let me know what you think. This will be a Jacob Black/OC, but it will be a slowburn. Diana is not and will not become a vampire in this fic. As to how she knows about vampires, you will have to read and find out. I don't have a beta, but I'm looking for one. If you are interested, feel free to DM me.
