The first week of October was marked with the chess tournament. On the first day of competition, Clark and Lois were relieved that Jonathan did not complain about the chess tournament, and he normally wore the Smallville High School shirt.
"Jon how are you feeling?"- Clark asked gently.
"Anxious. I am afraid to disappoint my teacher, she really believes that I am good and since I have mental problems, I am afraid to win, because I think if I win the game, it is not fair, because I used super speed to study chess strategies."- Jonathan answered honestly.
"First, being there is already a victory."- Clark said firmly.
"It's loser talk dad, come on."- Jonathan complained.
"Jonathan, your teacher found a time to talk to your mother about how talented you are. So, for me, it is a huge victory."- Clark explained- "Secondly, do you use super speed to study all subjects of school?"
"Chemistry and Biology I read normally. Like the book of Mechatronic Engineering that I am studying."- Jonathan answered- "I can see your perspective, dad, thanks!"
"Welcome, son, just have fun."- Clark said gently.
As soon as Jonathan arrived at school he ran at his friends from the chess club, greeted them and kissed his girlfriend.
"So, remember let our competitors greet first, because the last words will be ours"- Jonathan said firmly.
"Check mate!"- Jonathan and his friends said together while holding hands.
After five days of competition, Smallville High School was honored to have the final game between two students at the school: Lilian and Jonathan. So, when they greeted, Jonathan did not mind speaking first.
"You know what this means, right?"- Lilian joke.
"We already won; our school is victorious."- Jonathan answered.
"Let's go back with two trophies."- Lilian said smiling.
After two hours of game, Lilian won the golden trophy and Jonathan won the silver trophy. Both were happy and proud of each other, like their families and friends. Their victory won the first page of the journal of the city, because Smallville High School had not won in decades the chess tournament. So, the community was proud of Lilian and Jonathan. The principal of the school congratulated them at the auditorium.
"From hated to be loved."- Jonathan said.
"Yeah, I understand. I was the freak girl from Gotham, now everyone talks to me. Hypocrisy."- Lilian said, rolling her eyes.
"Or they just decided to give me a second chance and a first chance to you."- Jonathan suggested.
"Well, it is bad anyway. Someone does not need to prove to be good to anyone. You did not need to win a trophy to be forgiven for a mistake and I did not need to win a trophy to be listened to or known."- Lilian argued.
"I can't deny it."- Jonathan said thoughtfully. - "It's why the best part is: we won for our chess club."
"Exactly!"- Lilian agreed- "And for us."
"Of course."- Jonathan said smiling. So, they kissed each other.
The month of October passed in the blink of an eye, Jonathan could say that he was happy and living the best days of his life. Everything was going well: he had friends, an amazing girlfriend, his family knew about his powers, and he was getting high grades at school.
Jonathan was taking Biology class when his head suddenly started to ache, as if he had a migraine. He closed his eyes instinctively and when he opened them, he felt like he was in a horror movie when he could see the bones and organs of those around him. Then, frightened Jonathan asked to go to the infirmary where he complained about his headache as much as it was scary to be around people and he wanted to just run out of school. At that moment, he understood that he was no longer just any student, after all his colleagues and teachers respected him, so he could not run away. Suddenly, as he was talking to the nurse, Jonathan threw up, he did not know if it was the intense headache, anxiety, or anguish of being talking to skeletons.
The nurse did not think twice and called Jonathan's mother.
"Your mother is coming, Jon. Try to rest."- the nurse asked while she looked concerned to the boy who was keeping his eyes closed.
Minutes later, Lois arrived, she talked with the nurse, then guided her son to the car.
"Jon, we are going to the hospital, you will be fine, son."- Lois said to her son, she was worried about him.
"Mom, you need to know something first."- Jonathan avoided looking at his mother, since he preferred to look at all the car's parts then the bones and organs of his mother. - "I need dad, mom, I am with X-ray vision. It is awful, I am feeling like I am inside a horror movie, and I don't know how to stop it."
"We are going home; there I will call your father. Close your eyes and try to breathe, like you used to help your brother."- Lois said calmly. - "I am here, Jon, everything is going to be fine. You are not alone; your father will help you. You are not in a horror movie."
Lois drove to the farm, during the ride she talked with her son in a way that helped Jonathan to calm down. She did not think twice to use her dispositive to call her husband.
"Your son needs your help now!"- Lois said firmly. Clark showed up quickly.
"What happened?"- Clark asked anxiously.
"Jon has X-ray vision and is too scared to open his eyes and see my bones. You know how much he hates horror movies, so he is living a nightmare, Clark."- Lois answered, concerned. - "He is in his bedroom."
In the next second Clark was sitting at his son's bed.
"Jon, open your eyes, I'm here, son."- Clark said gently. - "You do not need to be afraid. Try to breathe."
"It's hard to breathe, I'm too anxious, dad. I do not want to see your bones and organs. It is scary."- Jonathan said, anxiously.
"Jon, you have nothing to be afraid of. I am your father with and without bones, okay? So, look at me."- Clark asked gently. - "Come on, I know how brave you are."
Jonathan opened his eyes, so Clark took his right hand and let on his heart.
"I know, you can see my heart. Focus on my heart. Try to feel it and breathe in rhythm with it. With each heartbeat, breathe in and out. We are human, so we have an organ as incredible as the heart, it represents the center of our life. Inhale and exhale."- Clark said, calmly.
Jonathan listened carefully to his father, so minutes later, he was calm, and the X-ray vision stopped.
"Dad, you are normal now! Thank you!"- Jonathan said, excited and relieved, so he hugged his father.
"Welcome, I will always be here for you, son. Now, try to rest. I understand how stressful it was for you, today. You can call me anytime. Okay?"- Clark said gently.
Clark kissed his son's head tenderly. So he stayed talking to Jonathan until he fell asleep. He knew that Jonathan was too proud to ask him to stay.
