Mayra stared at her parents and older sisters. Today was her gifting ceremony. She and her sister Mirabel were going to get their gifts and they couldn't be more excited. They tried to guess what kind of gift they would be given. Their cousin Camilo had gotten his gift a few months ago which made them even more excited. Julieta fixed Mirabel's bow before she fixed the pins in Mayra's hair. She and Agustín both kissed the girls before Isabella and Luisa smiled at the two. The four walked out to join everyone to see what new gifts would be in the Madrigal family next. The twins hugged each other before Mirabel grabbed Mayra's hand. Casita soon revealed the two standing there waiting for their cue. They waited for a bit before they both took a step. As they walked by Camilo, he showed them he was excited for them. The two began to make their way up the stairs where they would meet their parents and Abuela. The two had agreed Mirabel would go first then Mayra. When they reached the top Mayra watched as her sister agreed to help the community as she touched the candle. When Mirabel touched her doorknob Mayra was excited for her until her door started vanishing. She turned to her Abuela and parents to see how they would react. This had never happened before. Her sister would be the first Madrigal without a gift since the miracle. She then realized that the four were staring at her. She looked down at the community and the rest of her family. She wondered if her door would disappear when she touched it. Her Abuela walked over to her with the candle She watched Casita move the stairs so everyone could see her. Her parents crouched down to comfort Mirabel before they joined her.
"Mayra, do you promise to help serve this community and help in any way possible with your gift?" Abuela asked as Mayra held the candle.
"Sí."
The young girl turned to her door and took a deep breath. She closed her eyes then she grabbed the doorknob. She watched the door flash brighter, making her Abuela smile. She started to feel an overpowering number of emotions at once. She also felt like she had to help the ones that hurt. Everyone stared at her door wondering what her gift was. She walked over to Mirabel and touched her arm. She felt angry, but she didn't know why. Her door flashed again, making the sisters look at the door. Her name and gift had finally appeared. Casita had her door with different emotions around her face and hands, and a bowl with hearts coming from it.
"Mamá, look she has two gifts!" Julieta pointed out.
She felt hatred but it wasn't directed at anyone. She felt her Abuela guide her to the stairs. She watched as everyone stared at her. She looked up at her Abuela for a moment.
"We have not one but two new gifts!" Alma shouted.
There was cheering from everyone as they began to celebrate a new gift. Before Mayra opened her door, she and Alma took a picture at her door to go with the rest of the pictures of the Madrigal family members and their doors. The crowd cheered as Mayra was told to open her door. When she opened her door, she watched as the room started to appear. She stared at the huge room in amazement. Everything was yellow and orange until someone bumped into her. She watched as her wall, bedding and other furniture turned red, green and purple. She turned to see Mirabel standing next to her. She grabbed her hand, feeling all her emotions at once. Mirabel let go of Mayra's hand and started to laugh while Mayra stood there dealing with what were once Mirabel's emotions.
"Her room changes! That is so cool." Camillo showed his excitement.
Julieta and Agustín both gave Mayra a worried look. Julieta knew the pressures of having a gift in the Madrigal family. She knew she would have yet another daughter with that same pressure. She also knew that with Mirabel not having a gift she would be treated differently. The room was soon filled with everyone in the village had gathered to celebrate another gift in the family. Everyone was dancing to the music and enjoying themselves. Mirabel and Mayra were dancing with Julieta and Agustín. The four were laughing when Isabella walked over and threw flowers over the two, making them giggle. Alma called all the members of the family for a family portrait. Mirabel ran to Julieta to hold her but before Mayra could run to Agustín, Alma made her stand in the front with her. Mayra looked back at Mirabel before her Abuela turned her around for the picture. The members of the family that could physically display their gifts did so as they smiled. After the picture was taken Mirabel jumped out of Julieta's arms and bumped into Mayra. She felt the hatred feeling come back. She didn't know why Mirabel hated her so much. She wondered if this was a new thing or if she always felt this way. Mayra felt someone bump her a bit, making her look up to see her Tío Bruno. He smiled down at her before the two started to dance. He went to spin her but stopped her mid-spin. He stared forward and she looked at him before she felt worried and scared.
"Tío Bruno, are you okay? Tío Bruno? Tío Bruno!"
"Oh, yea, I'm fine."
He stared at the vision that he held in his hands. He hid it when he saw Julieta and Agustín staring at him. He soon felt Pepa and Félix staring at him. He knew he wouldn't be able to hide the vision. Even breaking the vision wouldn't hide it. He stared at his niece who was giving him a worried look. He knew it was her gift but with what he saw it might be a curse. He looked up when he saw Julieta making her way for him quickly. He tried to leave but he wasn't quick enough.
"Bruno, what did you see?"
"No-nothing. I'm just tired. You know gift ceremonies can be so exhausting."
"She is my daughter. Is she in danger? Do I need to protect her from something. Bruno, just tell me!"
Pepa walked over to the two and tried to calm the argument before it got two out of hand. Mayra watched as her Papá and Tío Félix tried to keep her Mamá calm. Everyone soon stopped to pay attention to Julieta and Bruno's argument. The Madrigal grandchildren looked at the ground as Alma walked towards the triplets. Pepa soon started to get a small cloud over her head, making Mayra run over and grab her hand. She started to feel extremely anxious. She noticed the cloud started to disappear.
"What is going on here?" Alma asked in a stern tone.
"Bruno had a vision about Mayra and won't show me or tell me about it!" Julieta shouted.
Everyone gasped as they stared at Bruno then Mayra. There was soon whispering amongst the guest, some even pointed. Mayra looked around as she tightened her grip on her Tía Pepa's hand. Mayra was already scared about having two gifts but now people were whispering about her over a vision. She knew sometimes her Tío Bruno's visions weren't good news but to her at least he prepared them for something. She stared at her Tío Bruno and could tell he was just as uncomfortable as she was. She watched as her Abuela assured everyone that there was nothing to worry about and that her mother was just a little tired. Alma then told the adults to go to the kitchen that they would discuss what just happened. She turned for a moment, placing a hand on Mayra's cheek.
"Don't worry Nieta, everything will be fine."
Mayra smiled briefly as she watched her Abuela follow the adults out of her room. She stared at her cousins and sisters for a moment. Were the adults really that concerned over a vision that her Tío Bruno had. The village was enjoying the party again, forgetting the incident that had just occurred. Mayra noticed Dolores had jumped a bit which made her nervous. She started to hurry towards the door, but Luisa and Isa stepped in front of her. The two older girls knew it was best to stay away when the adults were talking. The two didn't really know how her power worked. The five-year-old stood her ground. The rest of her family used their gifts, and she was going to help her family by using hers. She reached out and grabbed both her sisters arms, taking the scared and worried emotions from them. The two stared at each other before they turned to her. They knew they shouldn't let her go but if her gift could make the adults not fight then they thought maybe she should. They moved aside, letting the small girl try to fix everything. Mayra opened the door but didn't hear anything due to the loud music. When she closed the door, she heard shouting from the kitchen. She slowly made her way to the kitchen where she heard her Mamá shouting at her Tío Bruno. She grabbed the wall without poking her head out of the opening. She listened to her Mamá pled to see the vision. She could tell from behind the wall her Mamá had tears in her eyes. Mayra slowly stepped out from behind the wall.
"Tío Bruno, could I see the vision? I won't be upset. I just want to know. We could even do a new one if you don't want them to know."
"Mija, you should be enjoying your gift ceremony. It is okay your Tío Bruno will tell us. He wants to make sure you are happy just like the rest of the Familia." Julieta smiled at the young girl.
"I'll show her in my tower. I'll give her a new vision."
All the adults turned their attention to Bruno. Pepa started to form a small cloud over her head. She didn't like the idea. She knew it would make Julieta nervous which would mean she would make more food which meant they had to eat more. It also meant that there could be a risk of Mayra seeing something that scared her. Pepa and Julieta knew that it would be hard to comfort her after seeing a vision. Alma informed all the adults that everyone would be going to Bruno's tower. Agustín carried Mayra up all the stairs in Bruno's tower. Julieta could see that tonight's event were already making the young girl tired. She was fighting sleep as she was being carried up the stairs.
"Papá, did Tío Bruno ever have a vision for you?"
"He did."
"Were you scared?"
"I was. I trust your Tío Bruno. It was about you and Mirabel. I was scared before I asked for the vision. I was scared the vision would make my fears worse, but they didn't. I have two perfect twins and four amazing daughters."
Agustín started to rub Mayra's back. Julieta smiled at him briefly and wondered how he could remain so calm. Then she stared at Mayra in his arms. She wondered if she was absorbing his anger and worry. When they reached Bruno's vision cave Agustín put Mayra down so she could get her new vision. The adults stood to the side as Bruno pulled Mayra to the area, he had his visions. The two knelt down but Mayra could tell her Tío Bruno was worried. He took a deep breath before he stuck his hands out. She grabbed them and his eyes turned green as the sand around them started to swirl. Mayra jumped a bit as she watched the sand enclose them. She turned but didn't see her parents anymore. Julieta held onto Agustín as they watched Bruno give their daughter her vision. Mayra felt her Tío tighten his grip on her hands.
An older version of Mayra appeared. It disappeared for a moment before appeared again handing small bottles out to the villagers. She would touch some arms. She saw her Abuela then she was alone again. She saw the bottles everywhere. She had her hand on someone's arm. She touched some else at the same time. Her eyes glowed a bright color. She looked so scared and unhappy. She let go of her Tío Bruno's hands. She put them over her ears and closed her eyes before she screamed.
She suddenly felt the sand hit her heavily. She didn't open her eyes until she felt someone's arms around her. She wrapped her arms around her Mamá. She sensed her anger. No matter how much she tried to take it away she still felt it. She knew that her Mamà and Papà were angry. She knew she was the one thing that was preventing them from screaming at her Tío Bruno. The anger started to build up until the tears ran down her cheeks. The wind started to pick up around everyone, picking sand up into the air. There was soon a crack of thunder before it started to rain heavily. Mayra looked up at her Tía Pepa to see the angered look on her face. Her Tío Félix was trying to calm her down, but she could see he was not successful.
"How are you two not furious at him? If he had a vision about Camilio or Dolores, I'd make him show me. He made Mayra upset and you're not even telling him how angry you are."
"Th-they can't. It... it's one of her gifts. She can absorb how they feel. Grief, anger, envy… anything. She takes it I and makes it her own. That's why they aren't showing how mad they are at me. Julieta I'm sorry but I wanted to protect all of you. My visions are a curse, and I didn't want to give my little Sobrino and Sobrinas cursed visions."
The wind died down and everyone stared at Bruno. It was no secret in the family that Bruno hated his gift. The people in the Encanto didn't make having his gift easy. Mayra didn't think any gift was a bad gift. She didn't think her Tío Bruno's visions were cursed either. He just gave visions people didn't want to see. She let go of her parents and made her way towards him. He stared at her for a bit before she stuck her hands out.
"Tío Bruno, could I have my vision please. It's not cursed or a bad vision. My Tío Bruno would never give me a cursed vision."
Bruno smiled for a moment as he stared at her. No one had said that to him. At least no one said it and truly meant it. He had someone that had complete faith in his gift and his vision. Mayra grabbed his hands and smiled at him. She felt a mixture of emotions. He went to hand her the vision but before he could she hugged him. Julieta stared at the two as she thought about how she reacted. Bruno handed Mayra the vision. She turned to see her parents at her. She turned to her Tío Bruno to see how he would react if she showed them. She noticed he started to become uncomfortable. She turned to face everyone again. She felt the wind start to pick up which meant her Tía Pepa was not happy. She could see her Abuela was not amused with her hiding the vision She wrapped her fingers around it tightly as she pulled it closer. There was a quick flash of lightning quickly followed by a lowed crack of thunder. Mayra yelped as she clenched to the vision tighter. She could see that her Tía Pepa wasn't angry, but she wasn't happy. She was only doing this out of concern, but it was scaring her. She turned back to her Tío Bruno who fidgeted with his poncho but nodded at the small girl. She started to take a few steps towards the remaining adults in the room. As she got closer, she started to pull the vision out for everyone to see. As the adults gathered around her, she heard a gasp, and she heard her Abuela speaking with her Tío Bruno. She sensed mixed emotions from everyone in the room as she stared at the vision. It did look bad to her so she knew it would have scared everyone else.
"Mamà, Papá , are you going to be, okay?"
"Sí, we are okay." Agustín tried to assure her.
"No, you're not. You're scared and sad."
"Her gift, mi amor. She knows how we feel." Julieta reminded him.
"I could help you whenever you get hurt until Mamá gives you an Arepas."
"Whatever makes you happy and makes you feel like you are using your gift Corazón."
"Dios mío Agustín, this will backfire on us quickly. Mayra, how about we go check on Mirabel, eh?"
Mayra hugged her Tía Pepa and Tío Félix. Her Abuela told her how proud she was as she hugged her. Agustín stuck his arms out, letting Mayra jump into them. She laid her head on his shoulder, slowly closing her eyes. Julieta grabbed the vision before she could drop it. As they made their way out of Bruno's tower Mayra fell asleep. When they finally left the room and started to walk down the hall, they heard someone shouting after them.
"Agustín, Julieta! Come everyone wants to see Mayra and congratulate you three on her gifts. Oh, she's asleep," a villager called after them.
Agustín and Julieta looked at each other before they agreed that if everyone quieted down, they could take Mayra into the room. They let the man know to go tell everyone to quiet down and that they would be in shortly. The three stopped by Julieta room so she could hide the vision. She didn't want anyone from the village to talk about a cursed vision. They soon went to the party where everyone smiled at the three. They congratulated Julieta and Agustín on a daughter with two gifts. Isabella and Luisa stared at Mayra with a smile. They remember their gifting ceremony. Gifting ceremonies were exciting, but Mayra had to share hers with someone and then it was ruined by the adults fighting. Mirabel watched as everyone congratulated her parents. She wondered if her parents were upset that she didn't get a gift. She stood there, staring forward. She wasn't paying attention to anything, letting someone bump into her. She fell to the ground and tried not to cry. Julieta turned to see the young girl on the ground, fixing her glasses. She made her way to the small girl, crouching down to help her with her glasses.
"Mirabel, are you okay? How about I take you and Mayra to lay down?"
"What about the party?"
"I think your sister would love for you to leave the party with her. Come Mija we all had a long day."
Julieta picked Mirabel up from the ground and carried her to where Agustín was standing. The two said their final goodbyes before they made their way to Julieta and Agustín room. They knew there would be talk that Mayra got two gifts and Mirabel didn't get one. When Agustín opened the door Julieta walked in while Mirabel had a handful of her hair as she slept. Julieta turned and chuckled as she watched Mayra pull on the collar of Agustín shirt as she slept. He tried to move his neck to get it out of her grip, but it was only making it worse. She placed Mirabel in the bed and slowly pulled her hand out of her hair before she went to Agustín rescue. When Mayra's hand had finally been removed from Agustín shirt she was laid next to Mirabel in the bed. Julieta hugged Agustín as the stared at their daughters. She rested her head on his shoulder as they continued to stare at the two.
"Mi amor, are you alright?"
"Oh, yea I'm just thinking about how much time has passed. We have had three gifting ceremonies. Our children are growing up Agustín. My brother had a vision about two of our daughters. One is happy about her vision the other was left in tears. We were given these gifts and I feel like they don't even help us. We can't even protect our children. An arepas won't fix it. My gift won't help her."
"That doesn't sound alright to me. Let's rest and we will talk more about it in the morning."
Julieta nodded before she and Agustín started to get ready for bed. They situated the two young girls in the middle of the bed. They removed their shoes, took Mirabel's glasses and placed them on the nightstand. They removed the bows and pins from the small girls hair, hoping they would stay asleep. The two watched as Mayra held onto Mirabel's hand as the two slept. She knew that whatever Mirabel was feeling Mayra was feeling due to her gift. When the two finally went to bed they each had one of their daughters snuggle close to them. Later in the night when everyone had finally gone home Mayra had woken up. She didn't know why she was in her parent's bed, but she was. She was feeling a bit hungry, so she quietly crawled out of the bed. She opened the door and looked out to made sure no one would see her. She closed the door and started to quickly make her way for the kitchen. She grabbed an arepas and slowly started to nibble on it. She soon heard a door, making her freeze. She and Camilo had both been told hundreds of times to stay out of the kitchen at night. She was especially told to leave the arepas alone. She always took from the batch her mother would be taking the village to help the people that hurt themselves doing whatever they needed throughout the day. She hid thinking her parents were coming to look for her but when no one came she left the kitchen, still nibbling on the arepas. She didn't see anyone at any of their doors, so she went to check her Tío Bruno's door to see if he was out of his room. She stopped in her tracks when she saw that his door didn't have its glow. She didn't know what to do. She didn't want to scare her Mamá if her Tío Bruno was fine, but his room had so many stairs. She was only five what could she do. She opened his door to see all the falling sand. She stood there for a bit as she tried to gain the courage to go in. She tried to move the sand, but she ended up sliding down. When she looked at the stairs, she told herself she was doing it for her Mamá and Tío Bruno. When she got halfway up the stairs she sat down and wondered what made casita give her Tío Bruno a room with so many stairs. When she finally had the strength to keep going, she started to make her way up the stairs again. She eventually reached the top but there was still no sign of her Tío Bruno. When she entered his vision cave she looked around.
"Tío Bruno! Tío Bruno, are you okay in here? Your door isn't glowing, so I wanted to check on you before I scared Mamá. Tío Bruno?" Mayra continued to look around the room and noticed bright green shards on the ground. "Oh no."
She went over to the shards and tried to see if she could see what was on them. She started to put a few together and saw cracks in casita and Mirabel's face.
"Where are you Tío Bruno? You always said you wanted to protect us. You don't have cursed visions I promise."
She started to break shards apart again. She started to scatter them everywhere and bury them in the sand. She started to run to tell her Mamá about her Tío Bruno. She felt like the run down the stairs took twice as long as the walk up. When she got to the bottom she fell, scraping her knees and hands. She quickly got up sprinting out of her Tío's room. She tried not to wake anyone as she ran through casita. She quickly opened her parent's door to their room. The two woke and turned to her as she quietly shut the door. Agustín grabbed his glasses as he turned on the light.
"Mamá! Papá! Something is wrong with Tío Bruno's door. It's dark. There is no glow. It's broke. He isn't in his room what if he is hurt? He thinks he is cursed."
"Mija... Mija, calm down! You are going to wake everyone. Let's go take another look at you Tío Bruno's door."
Mayra didn't need to take another look at the door, she knew what she saw. Before her parents could get out of bed, she left the room. She ran down the hall with tears in her eyes, bumping in her Tía Pepa. She felt worried as her Tía Pepa touched her arm. She pulled away as she continued to run away from everyone.
"Mayra, wait! Aye, Pepa I don't know what to do. She claims our Hermano's door isn't glowing. That isn't possible. Could you come check with me before I alarm Mamá. I don't want to worry her if I don't have to, especially after the night we had. Two gifts and Mirabel not getting one. Bruno having a vision about Mayra. Mamá doesn't need to worry about anything else."
Pepa nodded, agreeing to go with Julieta to go check the door. When they got there, their fears were confirmed. The door had stopped glowing. Julieta suddenly felt bad for yelling at Mayra. It was just hard to believe that the glow from one of the doors had gone away. The two went to the door, slowly opening it. After getting by the wall of falling sand the two stared at each other.
"Bruno, Hermano! If you are playing a game, it isn't funny. Pepa, and I are worried about you. Mayra is crying because she is so worried about her Tío Bruno. Bruno? Bruno, please."
"Julieta, I don't think he is here. I think it's time we tell Mamá. I'll go tell Mamá and you can go talk to Mayra."
Julieta nodded as the two exited the room. She watched as Pepa made her way to their Mamá's room. She stood where she was for a moment before she started to look for Mayra. In the kitchen Mayra crawled into the smallest space she could find that she knew no one would look. Little did she know someone could see her from a small hole in the wall. She wiped the tears out of her eyes as she thought about what was happening. She heard a noise, making her look up. When she didn't see anyone, she buried her face in her knees
"I'm sorry mi Sobrina pequeña. I'm doing this to protect the family."
Bruno hated seeing Mayra cry, but he had to protect Mirabel. He had cursed visions and he was always going to protect his family from that. He watched the vision shatter so he knew even if someone would go look for it that they wouldn't be able to tell what he had seen. Agustín entered the kitchen and started to call out for Mayra. Agustín searched everywhere but still couldn't find her. Bruno watched from the hole in the wall to see the defeated look on the man's face. The parents searched all night, but they didn't find her. Pepa and Félix helped Alma search for Bruno, but they didn't find him. The next morning all the adults were exhausted but they weren't about to let the children know something was wrong, quite yet. Julieta went to prepare breakfast as usual. Félix and Agustín began to prepare the table. Pepa changed out of her soaking wet clothes and started to get ready for the day. Alma stared at the candle for a moment before she went to her room. Mayra heard a noise and watched her mother from her hiding spot. She could tell that her mother was crying because she would occasionally put her hand up to her face. Mayra watched her Tía Pepa walk in and lean on the counter a bit.
"Julieta, we'll find them. They couldn't have gotten far. Those mountains are too bit for Mayra to climb."
"Pepa, leave me alone and get out."
"Julieta, please-"
"I said get out!"
Mayra watched as the dark cloud formed above her Tía Pepa's head. There was a low rumble before it got loud. Félix and Agustín ran in to see the two sisters fighting. Félix tried to calm Pepa as he tried to get her to leave the kitchen. He knew that Julieta and Agustín didn't need the extra stress. Agustín tried to calm Julieta, but she was furious with Pepa, and nothing was going to take her attention from that. As the two men struggled to stop the sisters from fighting the cloud above Pepa's head got bigger and darker. They knew it would end in disaster. There was a bright flash of lightning and a loud boom of thunder. Mayra tried to stay quiet as the fight unfolded in front of her. She felt their anger and sadness start to become overwhelming.
"I can't help you didn't believe Mayra when she told you about Bruno and ran away. Maybe if you did believe her, they would both be here!" Pepa quickly covered her mouth. "Julieta, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it."
Julieta stared at Pepa before she turned her attention back to breakfast. The older sister had nothing more to say. She would make breakfast and look for her daughter. She wasn't helping the Encanto until she found Mayra. Agustín stared at Pepa before he walked out. It was no one's fault. Bruno was gone before Mayra found his door and Mayra was just a little girl who felt everyone's emotions. She was in the house somewhere, feeling every emotion that wasn't hers. She was feeling the adult's emotions so she wouldn't come out. He soon heard his name, so he turned to see Félix. The two had agreed to wake the children but they wouldn't mention Bruno or Mayra missing. They would let that up to women of the Madrigal family. As the two began to wake the children for breakfast Julieta finished in the kitchen. When she turned Mayra could see her eyes were red from crying. It took everything she had not to gasp. She felt her pain from her hiding spot. She was so hurt from last night, but she could see how hurt her mother was. She watched as her mother wiped her eyes one final time before she called everyone down for breakfast. The Madrigals sat down and began to pass the food around the table. The adults stayed silent which made the children look around. The table usually had at least some noise coming from somewhere. Julieta stared at her plate as she ate, not wanting anyone to see her eyes. Agustín placed his hand on her leg and smiled at her. In the kitchen the hurt was becoming too much for Mayra. She wasn't anywhere near anyone. They were all eating breakfast. She didn't understand how she felt their pain from her hiding spot. She climbed out of her hiding spot and hid behind the wall, scared that her parents would be mad at her. She took a deep breath before she stepped out. She looked at the ground, but she heard someone gasp. She tried not to cry but she felt her eyes start to sting. She heard a chair move, but she still stood where she was. She felt a wave of relief when her mother hugged her.
"Mija, I am sorry I should have believed you. I never meant to upset you. Look at you. You have cuts on your knees and hands and... they have sand on them. Were you in your Tío Bruno's tower?"
Mayra watched as her Abuela sat up a little straighter. She wondered if her Abuela wanted something out of her Tío Bruno's tower. She then remembered the shattered vision. She looked at Mirabel for a moment and smiled. She heard her Tío Bruno's voice in her head, telling her to protect her sister. She turned and smiled at her Abuela before she turned to her Mamá.
"I went to call out for him, and I tried to climb a few stairs, but I got tired. I fell on my way down. It hurts a little."
"Did you see anything? Did Brunito leave anything behind? A vision of why he left?"
"No Abuela."
Julieta gave Mayra a arepas to heal her cuts. When she sat down, she could feel her Abuela staring at her. She knew that her Abuela wanted more information from her. She would protect her sister just as her Tío Bruno did. After breakfast the Madrigals began getting ready to go help everyone in the village. Agustín had agreed to go with Mayra as she tried to adjust to her new gift. Alma hoped that maybe they would find out what her second gift was. No one was to talk about the fact Bruno was missing or that his door was no longer glowing. If someone asked about him the family was to simply say he wasn't feeling himself today after the events of the gifting ceremony. Agustín smiled down at Mayra as he took her hand. The two walked through town and she felt his emotions. When they got further away from everyone Mayra looked up at her Papá. She made sure no one could hear them. She knew one person would hear them, but she knew her Papá wouldn't tell anyone.
"Papá, I have a secret but if I tell you, you can't tell anyone."
"Oh, it must be a pretty big secret. Okay I won't tell anyone. I won't even tell your Mamá."
"I lied to Abuela at breakfast. I saw something in Tío Bruno's tower. Let's just say he has a lot of stairs in his room."
Agustín chuckled. "Yes, he does. Imagine carrying you up and down those stairs. Now what did you see?"
"He had a vision and it upset him so bad he shattered it. I hid it."
"Mayra, do you know any part of the vision."
"It's about Mirabel but it doesn't look like she is in danger."
"Okay, here is what we are going to do. You didn't lie to Abuela. You never saw that vision. You never hid that vision. We never had this talk. You will tell no one else. Your Tío Bruno shattered that vision for a reason. That may be why he is missing."
"Okay, Papá. I'm sorry for lying and running away last night."
"It's okay. You reminded me of your Mamá a bit. You tried to protect your sister and Tío Bruno. You wanted to help them. You were worried when his door wasn't glowing. You have the perfect gift."
(Author's Note: So I hope you guys like this. I know we all saw the pressure of living with one gift but I wanted to imagine what it was like living with two. I also wanted to do a twin think with Mirabel. One gets no gift the other gets two. I also feel like Agustín knew about the vision. Like I said I hope you like it. Feel free to leave a review. They are always appreciated."
