A/N: Hey, so just a quick rundown on how this works. Each chapter in this is stand-alone, and doesn't have any effect on other chapters. At the start, I'll say up to what chapter of Sierra 10 it contains spoilers for (ie where you should read up to in the main fic) and if the chapter is canon or not. Some will be, some will not. Enjoy!
Spoilers: Up to Chapter 5
Non-Canon
"I have developed a vast knowledge of the English language, however there are precisely zero words that are physically capable of explaining how stupid of an idea that was."
The room in the clinic was mostly empty with Chansey having gone home for the night. As a result, the only two souls in the building were Blizz and the Prince, the former lying in bed with a cast around his arm.
"Look you saw how the dude was gonna go for Rune, and like, she was definitely doing the most damage out of all of us there."
"You stood in the way of a Snorlax's Giga Impact. Rune was entirely capable of stepping out of the beast's path, it was simply your own foolishness that caused this to happen."
"Eh, what was the worst that could happen anyways? This?" Blizz gestured to his broken arm.
"The worst that could happen is you perish as a disgusting beast several hundred times your mass charges towards you at 50 feet per second and launches you against the wall of a dungeon."
Blizz gave the Prince a blank stare. "…And?"
The Prince retaliated with an irritated glare. "And you would perish."
"…So?"
"…Please do not tell me you care so little about your own well being that you would willingly throw your very life away such that someone else may avoid receiving an attack?"
"…But like, it could've hit-"
"Rune had already cleared the Snorlax's trajectory before you jumped in! Your action was completely pointless!" The Prince's frustration was rising, not helped by Blizz's perpetually blank stare.
"…So what do I do then?"
"Focus on the battle, and have the most minute level of faith in the rest of our allies. If I am capable of doing so, I find it difficult to imagine you would struggle with this concept."
"Okay sorry the painkillers are kinda making things a little fuzzy right now, is that supposed to be like, a compliment or what?"
The Prince sighed. "My assertion was that if I can assume the commoners that surround the two of us are capable of exhibiting a basic level of common sense, then you should not harbor any doubts either."
It took Blizz a moment to translate that from Prince-speak to English.
"Okay think I get what you're saying- wait, what'd you say with the commoner thing?"
"…That the two of us are surrounded by commoners?"
"…Does that mean I'm not a commoner?"
"Tsk…" The Prince looked off to the side. "You possess a… passable set of leadership skills. It is hard to imagine you as not holding some… extraordinarily minute amount of noble lineage in light of this."
"Bro, I was a snowboarder from like, California or some shit."
"I am aware, however it is not out of the question that your family may have had some contact with true nobility."
"Uhh, thanks then?" Blizz wasn't quite sure to take it as a compliment or not. "That why you were freaking out about me getting hurt then?"
"Yes." The Prince answered too quickly. When he realized this, he tried elaborating to save face. "While you most definitely do not contain enough grace to have a proper royal lineage, I have found such attributes to be uncommon in this world. Protecting it is a necessity."
"Aww, so you do care about me." Blizz gave the Prince a mock smile, causing the Prince to turn away yet again.
"I… suppose."
When the Prince didn't immediately reject it, Blizz sat back up. That was not normal for him.
"Hey, uh, you okay? Didn't get hit in that fight either, right?"
He scoffed. "Do you truly believe someone as capable as me would allow myself to get hit? I am perfectly fine."
"Well like, you just seem to be sorta out of it right now."
"As I said, there is precisely nothing wrong with me at the moment."
"Rad." Blizz lied back down, no longer as concerned that his friend suffered a serious injury.
The two just waited there for a few moments.
"You know I'm good, right?" Blizz asked. "Should be good to do missions again by tomorrow, you don't need to stick around."
The Prince narrowed his eyes. "I am aware what has happened the previous times Chansey dictated you remain in bed. Given that I wish to resume progress in our search for whatever summoned us to this world as soon as possible, ensuring you do not go off is a pressing concern. I shall remain until I am confident you will not sneak out."
"Shit… so you did know about those times."
"You would be hard pressed to find a detail regarding this team that escapes my observation."
"Yea I know…" Blizz looked around once again to verify Chansey wasn't here. "…Think we can go anyways?"
"No."
"What if I let you come with me to make sure I'm not doing something stupid?"
The Prince briefly considered Blizz's words, faint traces of red arising on his face before he caught himself. "Unless your arm were to magically heal itself, I forbid it."
"Damn… That'd be cool though."
The Prince looked back to Blizz's arm in the cast, before letting out a "tsk." As he turned away, a small star shot out of the top of his head.
Blizz looked at the star in fascination. "Yoo, what's that?"
"Hmm?" Prince looked up as well, seeing the star too. "What is this?"
"You don't know? Came out of you."
"Pardon?" The Prince looked on, as the star gradually descended onto Blizz's cast.
Blizz flinched as the star made contact. "Huh, feels weird?"
"What did it just do?"
Instead of answering, Blizz tore off the cast. Before the Prince could let him know how stupid of an idea that was, he realized the arm was completely healed.
"…How?"
"Guess that was like, a healing move," Blizz suggested. "Hey, you learned a new move."
"Pointless, I see no reason to take on a supportive role when I am among our team's strongest combatants."
"Well it's good to have." Having satisfied the condition of "arm magically healing," Blizz slid out of the hospital bed. While he was walking away with his back turned to the rest of the room, the Prince quickly ran to a poster on the wall— List of Healing Moves.
He looked over all the moves listed trying to figure out what he just did. His eyes stopped towards the end.
Wish - The user makes a wish with all of their heart that the recipient is healed. Extremely powerful healing, however the user must have an extraordinary level of care for the recipient, otherwise it will fail.
"…Pathetic."
The Prince ran off after Blizz, not wanting the Treecko to get too far away.
"I seem to recall that there was a condition to me allowing you beyond the clinic." The Prince was walking alongside Blizz as they slowly worked their way back to the guild.
For some reason neither of them were taking the most direct route.
"Yea, and my arm did magically get healed, so I'm good"
"I recall that you added a stipulation yourself."
"Huh?"
"That I am to accompany you such that you do not further injure yourself."
"Oh right." Blizz stopped walking. "You actually wanna stick with me?"
"I wish to make sure you do not make your condition worse."
"…Alright then." Blizz abruptly changed direction, walking east towards the road out of town.
The Prince let out a sigh, before following. "And where do you believe yourself to be going?"
"Well like, you're not supposed to go into a dungeon alone, right?"
"…You wish to enter a mystery dungeon at this hour? You are hardly capable of seeing the road."
"Yea, which is why you're with me. You can use your like, dark type night vision powers."
"You are insufferable." Despite this, the Prince followed as they continued east.
Blizz leading the way, the duo marched out of Nova Town. They took a right several kilometers out, the path taking them towards the mountains at the center of Varin.
Seeing the mountain peaks in the distance, the Prince began to piece together where Blizz planned on going. "Please do not tell me we are returning to that dungeon."
"Hell yea we are."
They came to a stop at a mountain base, with a cave entrance ahead of them. The entrance to Shining Peaks— where the two of them first met Rune, and the first time Blizz broke a limb since coming here.
"It is presently the middle of summer, you are aware that Beartic will have an active presence, correct?"
"Look the two of us managed to beat him when we like, just started off. Now we're much better, and you got that new healing move in case anything goes wrong. It'll be fine." Without waiting for a confirmation from the Prince, Blizz walked ahead. It was more of a bluff, given that the Prince was the only one of them who could see in the early segments of the dungeon, though it seemed to work.
After easily fighting their way through 10 floors of ice and rock types, the two ex-humans reached the final staircase leading to the summit.
"Beartic is likely to be present on the following floor. Do you feel ready to do battle with him?"
"Hell yea." Blizz stretched out his arm. He still had plenty of Leafages left in him, and Quick Attack wasn't a whole lot worse.
The Prince gave him a solemn nod, before climbing the staircase.
Immediately, an Icicle Crash whizzed by the Prince, who dodged purely on instinct. "…Unsurprising." Having an advantage in the darkness of the slowly setting moon, he fired off a series of Shadow Balls while readily dodging each attack Beartic tried.
Blizz joined in soon enough, zooming by the ice type far too fast for any one of its attacks to land. As a fresh round of Icicle Crashes rained down next to him, he climbed up one of the nearest oversized icicles, before leaping up towards Beartic's head.
"Why are you bothering with this strategy again?" The Prince rushed in for a Bite, backing off immediately after making contact.
Prompted by the Treecko attached to his neck and the Umbreon who seemed to be just out of range, the Beartic grew frustrated, using Thrash in an attempt to knock out the two explorers.
It failed miserably as Beartic just flailed around the air. Blizz kept using Absorb right on Beartic's head, rapidly sapping his energy. On the rare circumstance where Beartic's wild flailing did manage to scratch Blizz, the injury healed virtually immediately.
The Prince, meanwhile, kept comfortably beyond the range of the rampaging Pokemon, shifting to Quick Attacks and Shadow Balls to erode the last of Beartic's stamina.
With an explosion of purple light, the final Shadow Ball knocked Beartic out. Before it could fall backwards, Blizz jumped off, landing at the Prince's side.
"Told ya that would be a lot easier."
The Prince just turned back to Blizz. "Were you seriously planning on taking on this dungeon with a broken arm?"
"Nah, idea came to me after you healed it and said you'd come along. Thanks for that, by the way, night vision was super helpful through the dungeon."
"Hmph… what reason did you have for wanting to come here in the middle of the night anyways?"
"So you know how this place is called Shining Peaks? Because like, the snow is really reflective or something?"
"Yes."
"So I wanted to see like, what it looks like before the sun comes up. And while it's coming up too, I guess."
"…Fine, I suppose we are to wait here until then?"
"Probably."
The two Pokemon sat in silence, occasionally looking back to the Beartic they just knocked out to ensure he remained unconscious. At last, a red light slowly emerged over the horizon.
The Prince subconsciously pulled himself towards Blizz as the two of them watched the sun slowly come up. "…May I ask you something?"
"What's up?"
"Is there any particular reason you wear those goggles constantly? It feels this would be a situation where a fully unobstructed view is preferable."
"…Yea, fair point." For the first time in days, Blizz lowered his goggles down around his neck.
"Hmm… It has been a while since I've seen you like this."
"Aww, you missed looking into my eyes?"
The Prince quickly looked away, as an uncomfortable feeling of warmth appeared on his forehead. "It is simply abnormal, that is all."
"Sure it is."
Blizz's taunting tone started making the Prince worry. Was he perhaps aware of these odd feelings the Umbreon has begun experiencing?
Not saying anything, the Prince turned back to the sunrise. As the first traces of light reflected off the mountain top, the snow and ice began glowing. The Prince stood up slightly as the darkness receded.
"See? I said this would be cool to check out."
"…So it is."
The ground itself seemed to be glistening as the sun continued its route over the horizon.
"Thanks again for coming out with me to do this. Couldn't have done it alone."
"You most certainly would have, though you would likely suffer severe injury in the process."
Blizz chuckled. "Yea, probably." He walked closer to the Prince and sat down, leaning against his teammate. "Really gotta do stuff like this more often. No offense to Rune or Kibo, but we like, click really well."
Slightly taken aback by Blizz suddenly resting on him, the Prince tried to concentrate on only watching the sunrise. "While dealing with you is nothing short of a headache, ensuring you do not harm yourself is a bigger concern… so I suppose such an arrangement is agreeable."
"And that's the only reason?" Blizz looked back to the Prince. "What was that move you used again?"
"As I said, I have not the slightest-"
"Wish, right? User has gotta really care about the guy you use it on, if I read that poster correctly."
Completely flustered, the Prince tried to bring the conversation back to a subject where he could have some level of control. "…Coyness does not suit you very well."
"Ehh, gotta use it sometimes. Especially when my best friend is acting like a brick wall."
"I do not understand what you are referring to."
"Bro there's literally no one around here. Don't gotta keep up your act when it's just the two of us." Blizz leaned further into the Prince. "You wanna be a bit more, right? Than just friends or teammates or whatever?"
The sun was almost fully risen.
"…Were I to say yes, what would your reaction be?"
Blizz grinned. "I'd say you've been acting like a dumbass for hiding it for this long."
The Prince built up the courage to look back to the Treecko pressed into his fur.
"…Then I suppose I might be, as you say, a dumbass."
Blizz's smile grew as he dragged himself forward, resting his head next to the Prince's. "Hell yea."
The two Pokemon laid there together, underneath the now-fully risen sun.
A/N: This was originally an April Fool's chapter, I wanted to take it out of the main story so there was no confusion on it not being canon.
