PROLOGUE

Maul seethed, revenge had been so close, and yet… Kenobi still eluded him. The old Jedi was alive he was certain of that. The visions assured Kenobi's survival, the visions guided him to Polis Massa, and the visions did not disappoint. On the medical asteroid, there were droids, droids who remembered Kenobi. Maul and his remaining Mandalorian warriors had scoured the facility and by the end of his search, he destroyed the facility and massacred the native Kallidahins recovering one very important midwife droid. The holo removed from the droid was corrupted but still had a recording of senator Padmé Amidala giving birth to a son, the Chosen One's no doubt. Maul had smiled an evil smile at the holo in delight when the corrupted recording cut to Kenobi holding that child. But now, all was lost. These two pieces of a recording were not enough. The trail to find Kenobi had run cold.

Maul drowned himself deeper into his meditation drawing to the surface his hate, rage and anger. Kenobi was surely protecting the child, Amidala was dead Obi-Wan had to be protecting the boy.

'BUT WHERE!' his mind screamed; calling at the Dark Side to give him answers.

Maul then changed his mind's tone becoming pleading 'Mother, show me my revenge, grant me a vision.'

Maul's internal voice became cracked and desperate 'Please! I beg of you.'

An old voice resonating with power reverberated through the Zabrak's head. 'My strength is greatly diminished, my son. It will be painful but, I know a way,' it paused and the voice became sinister 'a way to find who you seek.'

'Mother Talzin!' exclaimed Maul, 'what way? How?'

'We have spoken about my resurrection as a necessary step in our revenge, however, you, my son must complete your obsession first. To find the Jedi you must help me practice my Magick I require your strength.'

Maul spoke out loud "What do you need me to do?"

'I need you to focus on the Jedi, see him in your mind's eye.'

"Very well," Maul replied.

The Dathomirian shifted his focus to memories of Kenobi. Images of Obi-Wan flashed by as a green mist overcame Maul's thoughts. Talzin then began to chant 'Kenobi, Obi-Wan Kenobi.' her powerful voice rose with a cacophony of voices as if many witches were joining her.

Then the pain came. The green mist was everywhere, burning through every muscle in his body and torturing his mind but Kenobi was still there, the one constant as everything else was wiped from his thoughts. A great light materialized in his mind, and Maul screamed in agony. It was pure suffering as the mist fused with the light forming a ball of sand. The orb of sand cracked like glass becoming reflective and glossy. Cloudy images of a palace danced across the orb followed by images of a boy and Kenobi. He recognized the orb for the planet it was.

The vision halted abruptly and Maul's eyes shot open gleaming yellow and bloodshot. He gasped in relief as Mother Talzins presence faded. Collapsing in exhaustion Maul breathed heavily and a vile grin overtook his face. Maul's despair was replaced with hope.

Seconds passed and his strength came back to him, the phantom pain was gone now and his cold, metallic meditation room aboard the Nightbrother seemed so whole. Maul rose and used the force to activate the lights. Standing he opened the door of his chambers to enter the cockpit of the Nightbrother.

Blue light from the hyperspace corridor illuminated the cockpit and reflected off the helmets of his Mandalorian pilots. His most loyal lieutenant Rook Kast addressed his entrance as he loomed over them. "Lord Maul, do you have our destination?"

"Yes, I do." he replied, "prepare orders for our forces, we will complete our control over the Hutts and my revenge in one stroke." Maul paused savouring the moment "Set course for Tatooine."
