Week 1-Yours truly

It was a cold autumn day in New York City. Santana Lopez had just woken up to the screeching of her phone alarm on her nightstand.

After getting ready she walked into the kitchen only to be greeted by a dishevelled roommate moping by the fridge. As she shut the cereal cabinet she saw her roommate flinch out of the corner of her eye. Without turning around, she finally spoke up.

"You know Quinny if it wasn't for the fact that I am in a relatively good mood this morning I would 100% be pointing out the obvious sex hair you seem to be sporting from last night." Santana took a seat next to Quinn, who had now moved to the table, and started shovelling captain crunch into her mouth.

"As much as I would love that it is way too early in the morning, and I am way too hung over." Santana only responded by shrugging her shoulders before going back to her breakfast. "Anyways, what has you skipping and singing rainbows and sunshine's this morning?"

"Well, my dear friend if it helps I would love to refresh your memory and remind you that we both have a pen pal writing course that starts in," She glances down to her phone where the time is displayed. "93 minutes. So, if I were you I would drag my zombified corpse to the bathroom to wash the sin off my body before you make us both late.

"I don't think you should be the one talking about sins."

After much groaning and mumbling from a half dead Quinn and plenty corpse jokes from Santana the two found themselves in a classroom on campus at NYAC. The teacher, Holly Holiday, arrived and soon a hat with each student's names was being passed around the class. Once the hat was passed back to the front of the classroom and back to Holly all students were allowed to reveal who they had gotten as a pen pal.

"On the count of 3 we both reveal who we got."

Looking down at the piece of paper in her hands Santana took a deep breath and quickly nodded.

"Okay." She agreed trying to calm the pit of nerves bundling low inside her stomach.

"1" Quinn started

"2" Santana echoed

"3" They both finished at the same time. They briefly looked each other in the eyes before looking back down to the folded papers in their hands and slowly opened theirs.

"I got some girl named Rachel Berry." Quinn looked around the room trying to find who her pen pal could have been. "I wonder who that is. Really it could be anyone. Who did you get?"

" Brittany S Pierce." Her eyes scanned the room, but it was useless seeing as there was no way she would be able to identify the mystery girl.

Before the two best friends could carry on with their conversation, the entire class turned their attention to the front of the room where Miss Holiday was going over the rest of their course and what the first week's lesson would be.

"Every week I will give you a theme for what you write in your letters but that will just be a baseline to give you an idea of what to converse on. Then you and your pen pal will exchange letters at the start of the lesson. However, you are not to mingle out of class in order to see if you can really connect on an emotional level without having to speak face to face as well as teach all of you how to emote through writing." The class all nodded in agreement. "Now that all the rules have been covered let's get into today's lesson. This week's lesson will just be the basics like siblings, past education, current education and blah, blah, blah."

Later that evening Santana found herself at her desk Infront of her typewriter. Yes, she knew it was a little old school maybe even dramatic, but she loved her typewriter. That and her record player are the only thing that she has left of her abuelo. He was her biggest supporter when it came to her pursuing her creativity.

She began to type out her letter for her pen pal.

Dear Brittany S Pierce,

As you already know my name is Santana Lopez. Well actually my full name is Santana Diabla Lopez. My family's Latino and Diabla fittingly translates to she-devil. I live on campus with my roommate and best friend Quinn Fabray, or as I refer to her as Fabgay. I'm majoring in Musical performance and my minor is creative writing. I've always gravitated towards the more creative aspects of life. For example, every Sunday when we would have Sunday dinners, I would gather my mom, dad, abuela in the living room with my abuelo down at the piano while I preformed whatever songs I had been practising that week. By the time I was 10 years old I had memorised and preformed the whole of the Rumours album by Fleetwood Mac and the soundtrack to West Side Story. My old high school was William McKinley in Ohio. You might be asking why I moved so far away from home for college? Well, it had always been me and Quinn's dream, since we were 7, to move to New York as soon as we graduated. I was on my school's cheerleading team and show choir club although I would never admit it out loud, but I loved show choir. I have an older brother named Puck, who is 1 year older than me, and a dog named Anita. Don't tell Quinn but sometimes I feel as if my dog is the only one who truly gets me which might be cheesy or whatever. Maybe you can relate?

Anyhow, I feel as if that is enough about me. I look forward to receiving your letter!

, Yours truly Santana

As Santana settled into bed that night, across the campus, Brittany sat up in her bed with her laptop. She had a desk but rarely used it as she liked to be comfortable while working on her studies.

Dear Santana Lopez,

I'm really excited to get to know you and hope we can become good friends. I've heard about you from around school and I would be lying if the stories didn't intrigue me. I have 3 siblings: my older sister Avery, younger sister Charlotte and younger brother Denver. Yes, our parents really did name us in alphabetical order. I have a cat, Lord Tubbington. I'm majoring in dance; I've always wanted to be a dancer since before I can remember. I took my first dance class when I was 2, it was baby ballet, and I was mesmerised. It was love at first arabesque! I had my first dance recital at 3, started cheer in middle school and had my first cheer competition 11. My roomie is my long-time bestie Rachel. We went to the same high school, Franklin Pierce High School, and at first I did find her very annoying, but I've grown used to handle her. Plus, when you remove her obnoxiousness and over dramatics she is actually a really loyal friend. We have a mutual friends called Kurt and Blaine who also go to NYAC and happen to be dating. So that's enough for this letter. I can't wait to get to know more about you than just stories from around campus!

, Hopefully your soon to be friend Brittany S Pierce
