Chapter 1: Wind of Change
Sunset Shimmer was pissed. These girls would not quit. It was as if Twilight's presence among the group was a driving force that was keeping them from ever cowering under her eternal wrath. " Why? Why won't you just stay down? " Sunset asked them. Rainbow Dash, being the smart-alec she is, replied:
" Because we're awesome. Duh "
" It's because we're friends. " Twilight said, giving a slight glare to her rainbow-maned friend. Rainbow had the decency to look sheepish. " And because of that you will never ever be able to keep us down."
Sunset looked at Twilight like she had grown a second head. Friendship? That's what kept them going? Sunset had to laugh. Friends only hold you back from your goals. She could not but help but voice her opinion on the current matter.
"Friends only hold you back. I never had friends, and look at me now. I am the most powerful being in not one world, but two! " Sunset let out an evil, howling laugh, causing the students not under her control to shiver in fear.
Twilight looked up in slight worry, wondering what had caused her to change from the upright, studious pupil Celestia first spoke of when Twilight was a young filly. Now it seemed as though Sunset had lost sight of what having friends truly meant. If only she knew how to show Sunset - wait, that's it!
"You may think you control the Element of Magic because you wear the crown, but the Sixth Element of Harmony only reveals its true power in the presence of the other five!"
Just as Twilight finished speaking, a rainbow-colored beam of energy raced from the crown to surround the Mane 6. Once the beam started to slow down, it revealed the girls had gone through some pretty major changes. A few of the onlookers gasped when they saw the group.
Applejack was the first to appear, and as a voice called out "Honesty!", it was revealed that she had pony ears just under her Stetson. Her blonde hair had grown to her boots and was styled into a braided ponytail. She was followed out by Pinkie Pie, who had undergone the same changes, just no braid in her hair. She was followed by a call of "Laughter".
Our next two to appear were Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash. They both had their hair grow to their calves, and an almost invisible aura surrounded the two. They each had also grown a pair of wings, which Dash immediately took advantage of as she raced around for a moment. Their respective Elements were "Kindness" and "Loyalty".
The last two to appear were Rarity and Twilight Sparkle. Rarity's changes were like Pinkie's and Applejack's, except she also had a small, almost unnoticeable horn protruding just under her hair. Her Element was "Generosity". Twilight had the most significant changes. She grew the ears and hair length, but she also gained wings like Dash and Fluttershy and a horn like Rarity. Her Element was "Magic".
Once Twilight's element was called a bright flash a light appeared, blinding everyone. When the light faded the mane six were seen floating in the air, surrounded by a magical glow. " Now you will see the true power of friendship!" Twilight called. The other five pony-girls made a heart shape around Twilight, a field of magic surrounding them. Sunset Shimmer looked at them in confusion and before she could recoup a beam of energy shot out from the girls into the sky, growing power before shooting down on the sunset. Just before it hit, the beam veered slightly and started surrounding the evil form of sunset shimmer in a rainbow-colored tornado.
"No matter where you are, friendship will prevail!" These words caused another beam to shoot out, this time towards the students affected by the controlling magic of Sunset Shimmer. Suddenly a blinding light emits from both the main six and the portal. Everyone covered their eyes in confusion and once the light cleared they lowered arms to take on the sight before them.
They all saw Sunset in the middle of the cater lay out in pain with the other students coming back to their senses. Both Principal and Vice Principal Celestia and Luna were making sure that the kids were okay and the girls were celebrating their victory. Twilight saw the blue-haired boy Flash Sentry walking up to her.
She ran to him "FLASH" she screamed and hugged him hard and tight however accidentally shocking him in the process "Err sorry about that" she apologized making him chuckled "Nah it fine I'm glad you are okay" best unknown to them Twilight had accidentally transfer her magic into Flash slowly causing his body to product magic.
Twilight then looked at the time she must hurried "Spike" causing the dog to appear "Yeah?" she took off the crown and gave it to him "Listen give this back to Celestia I will be there in a second we have to bring Sunset back to face her crimes" she explained making the dog skeptical but nodded "Okay see you on the other side" and he ran into the portal. She then walked up to Sunset who was crying poor girl Twilight pitied her "Alright Sunset it time to go I can't leave you here y'know" Sunset just nodded and Twilight helped her up and put Sunset left arm around her shoulder to keep balance.
While the two walked up to the portal "By the way I want to tell you that Celestia really missed you, hell during my first year as her apprentice she constantly mistaken me for you so if she can forgive Luna then she can forgive you" Twilight told Sunset who just nodded in silence.
However something burst out of the crater causing the round to shake and it appeared. They don't know what it is because the entity itself lacks a physical form.
"So Sunset have failed me what a shame indeed" it said "However princess it is far from over" and fired a bolt of dark magical energy Twilight at while everyone gasped, and Sunset yelled a warning, Twilight instinctively batted it away. The bolt of energy now mixed with some of Twilight's own magic slammed into the Horse Statue which contained the portal to Equestria. The Statute shuddered and disintegrated within seconds. The exposed portal turned several different colors in rapid succession before it collapsed into nothing, seemingly it was gone forever.
"No," Twilight said softly. She fell to her knees. Her only way home was gone. She was stranded here in this strange parallel world she in truth knew so little about. She could not be the Princess of Friendship in this world. Here she was nothing more than a teenager, a homeless teenager at that. How would she survive? What could she do? Twilight buried her hand in her hands. She began to openly sob.
"Twi are you alright?" Applejack asked her friend Twilight, however, remained silent.
"Twilight snapped out of it." Rainbow Dash said, shaking her friend's shoulder to no avail.
"Hehe that was perfect since you failed me Sunset you and the princess will be here forever" it chuckle sadistic
"Get out of here you, you, you monster you! Leave Twilight alone!" Pinkie Pie snapped.
"Yes darling, you've done quite enough already." Rarity said.
"Pfft, monster? I shouldn't even exist! however it is time for me to find a new vessel until we meet again Twilight and please call me Midnight HAHAHA" the now name Midnight crackled disappearing into the night.
"What are we going to do about Twilight?" Pinkie Pie asked. Her friend had not moved since the portal was destroyed.
"I'll take her home with me. My parents are away so that gives me time to come up with an explanation of why she needs a place to crash." Fluttershy said.
Flash gingerly picked Twilight up off the ground. Instinctively she put her arms around his neck. She nuzzled in close. Twilight desperately needed something, anything to hold onto right now.
"Sure thing, Flutter," Applejack said. Applejack had no idea what could be done about Twilight; she only hoped a solution would present itself, eventually.
