CHAPTER 1
The sun's shine played off of the red haired girl's berret. The reflection of many diamonds danced across the walls of the bedroom, and dancing they were. The girl paced back and forth in nothing more than an anxious mess. Her heels clicked and clacked. She wanted to call her best friend, and ask him if he told his parents or not. However, the girl waited. She twisted the purple skirt, and rang it this way and that.
The sounds of customers coming into the bakery, and the smell of breads and desserts calmed her a bit. Comforting her, the smell of her father's career wrapped their arms around her. Gently it whispered for her to calm, but her thoughts argued back. He should have told them by now about the proclamation.
The red head looked over at the cat clock. It's tail swinging back and forth in such a mocking way. Still the girl waited patiently, even if she was becoming increasingly frustrated. She sat down in a chair, and then she stood up. Paced back and forth once more.
A sharp ring captured her attention, and the girl quickly dove for the phone on her bed. Sliding to a stop on her stomach, she saw the caller.
"Well? What happened?" The young girl said excitedly. She bit her thumb.
"Hi, Ben. How are you doing? I'm alright, thanks for asking, Antoinette. You're welcome, it's not like I ask you about how your parents reacted to your proclamation the moment I pick up the phone by yelling it in your ear," Ben moaned, mocking a would-be conversation between him and her. Antoinette groaned and rolled on her back, an arm flung over her eyes.
"You're right. It's not like this is the biggest thing to ever happen since, mmm, let's see. Oh, yeah! Since the Isle was made. Please, just tell me, how did your parents react to the proclamation." Antoinette rambled. A sigh on the other end of the phone told her everything she needed to know.
"That good, huh?" She asked. She could almost see Ben pinching the bridge of his nose, or running his hand down his face, as if trying to get rid of a despicable residue.
"Dad was pretty upset. Mom had to calm him down. I don't know. I feel like they're more worried than anything else," Ben explained.
"Well, I don't blame them. You're bringing over the kids of our worst enemies," Antoinette sighed,"but I will always support you."
"Thanks, Ant. I appreciate that."
"Good, now. Make sure you have your speech memorized for tomorrow. We're announcing it to the school, and I've arranged for several media and news stations to be there. So, be prepared."
"I know. I have to go, but I'll see you when you get back. I miss you," Ben said.
"I miss you, too. Just another week, and then I'll be back in Auradon," Antoinette replied easily, a smile crossed her lips. The two teenagers hung up the phone, and the girl finally allowed the smell of bread to lull her into a gentle sleep.
Antoinette watched the green trees as the car passed by them. She waited as the taxi stopped, and thanked the driver while handing him several dollars. Checking her make up one more time before opening the door, she prepared herself for more than just the day. With a quick reapply of her red lipstick, Antoinette decided she was ready.
She stepped out of the car graceful, her kitty heels crunching the gravel underneath. The little bows on her shoes stared back at her, telling her that she made the right choice to choose the pair.
The driver grabbed her attention by pulling her suitcase next her. Antoinette smiled her thanks once more, and dragged the suitcase behind her as the taxi drove back. Once she entered the school grounds, Antoinette saw several students pass by her. However, just as they did to her, she paid them no mind. Instead, she was monitoring the news articles. A text message noticed popped up on her screen.
Clicking on the notification, she rolled her eyes when she saw that it was from her cousin, under the nickname Moron Cous. Antoinette decided to ignore his random message, regarding her 3-D printer. She continued to read the articles in front of her. Several headlines followed her around.
ALMOST KING, MAKING ROYAL MISTAKE
PRINCE BENJAMIN RE-TELLING HIS PARENTS STORY: BEAUTY OR BEAST
MALEFICENT'S DAUGHTER TO COME TO AURADON, ALONG WITH OTHERS FROM ISLE
Antoinette turned her phone off when she reached her door to her dormitory. Setting her stuff to the side, she texted her best friend, who was affectionately named Beast Bro in her phone.
Media is having cardiac arrest, practically. I'll set up a press interview. Do you want to do this week or next week?
She set her phone down on her bedside table, and began putting her clothes away. Antoinette hung up her dresses with great care, and closed the doors as her phone went off.
What would you suggest?
Antoinette thought for a moment. Weighing the pros and cons of the choices. If they were to do it this week then the people would hear from their beloved prince quicker, but if they did it next week then the future king could prove that the villain kids were doing well.
I'll assign it late this week, early next week. I'll make sure they behave during this time. We don't need any mishaps.
Antoinette hit the send button, and let out a long sighed. A small headache forming in her right temple. She ignored the headache, and walked over to the full body mirror. She made sure her red hair was in the tight ringlets, similar to those her mother wore in her youth. The light purple shirt, and dark pleated skirt combination, in her opinion, was a good play of the palette.
Making her way over to her bed she grabbed a book from the bookshelf before laying down. She opened the yellow book, to reveal dates and time, quickly scribbling down the planned date, Antoinette began thinking of which media to invite. Normally, if there was an issue she would invite those opposed and then a few who didn't see it much as an issue. However, everyone in all of Auradon seemed to disapprove of Benjamin's proclamation. She flipped to the back of the book where a list of media outlets had been written. Antoinette looked through them carefully, she decided against the gossip magazines, the ones who were always looking to scrutinize the royal family, and was left with two dozen to go. It would be better to have only half a dozen though, so to avoid miscommunication. She continued her thoughts, and glanced over at her clock.
She became startled when she realized the time. Antoinette jumped up from the bed and grabbed the clipboard off of the desk. Four students' names listed, four opportunities to change everything. Antoinette slid her shoes on quickly, the little bows encouraging her to hurry along. She checked the mirror one more time, and then went off. Strutting through the halls, what few students were left moved out of her way. Click. Clack. Followed her down the halls.
Reaching the front doors she already saw she was late. The limo had pulled up with the four villain kids. The two boys seemed to be fighting over a blue blanket.
"You're late," Ben noted as she came to stand by them.
"Sorry, was trying to figure out who to invite to our press conference," Antoinette replied. Fairy Godmother glanced over at her as the two boys continued their wrestling. A girl with blue hair came out of the limo, amazement written on her face. Another female followed with a purple bob.
"Press conference? When?" Audrey asked, peaking around her boyfriend's shoulder with a piqued interest. Ben glanced at Antoinette, silently asking her to be nice to his girlfriend. Antoinette smiled with just a little bit of an attitude.
"Nothing for you to worry about," Antoinette responded smoothly. The commotion of the four other teenagers grabbed their attention.
"Leave it like you found it! And by that, I mean just leave it," Fairy Godmother said. Antoinette started to look at her clipboard. Crossing off the arrival time from the list, she wrote a reminder to tip the driver double then usual.
Antoinette smiled slightly at the one trying to flirt with Audrey, going so far as to call her "Foxy". She didn't need to look up from her clipboard, for Audrey's fake laugh told Antoinette she was just uncomfortable. Antoinette's smile grew in amusement.
"Welcome to Auradon prep. I'm Fairy Godmother, headmistress," The older woman said with a dazzling smile. The purple-haired girl perked up.
"The fairy godmother? As in, 'bibbidi-bobbidi-boo'?" Said the girl. Antoinette glanced up at the girl, before lifting up her paper. Purple hair, green eyes, aha! Mal. Antoinette crossed the name off to understand she had safely arrived. Her eyebrows pinched together as she recognized that the girl's birth certificate was missing. However, the conversation continued with several references to the wand.
"Yeah, I always wondered what it felt like for Cinderella when you just appeared, out of nowhere, with that sparkly want and warm smile."
"Oh," Fairy Godmother asked.
"And that sparkling wand," Mal continued. Antoinette finally spoke up and looked at her.
"You seem really interested in the wand. Any particular reason why?" She asked. Mal's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Just want to see all the goodness here in Auradon," the other girl giggled. Antoinette looked over at the girl. Blue hair.
"Mmmm, well, if you'd like I can arrange for you to see it. Along with other items from our parent's stories," Antoinette offered.
"Including Cinderella's slippers," Audrey mentioned, smiling at Antoinette. Antoinette's hand tightened on her pen.
"Maybe they'll get to see the spinning wheel. You know which one, right Audrey?" Antoinette said with a tight smile.
"You little-"
"That was a long time ago. And as I always say, 'don't focus on the past or you'll miss the future,'" Fairy Godmother said, while speaking louder to the students gathered.
"It's so good to finally meet you all. I'm Ben," her best friend said, greeting the group for the first time.
"Prince Benjamin. Soon to be king," Audrey cut in. Antoinette rolled her eyes. The blue-haired girl stepped forward and curtesied.
"You had me at prince. My mom's a queen, which makes me a princess," She said. Antoinette flipped to the right page. Blue hair, revoked royal title. Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen.
"The evil queen has no royal status here and neither do you," Audrey mentioned through a tight voice.
"She may not have a royal status here, Audrey, but she is still to be treated with kindness," Antoinette interjected. Her eyes still glued to her clipboard.
"And you would know all about treating people with kindness, right Antoinette?"
"Girls," Fairy Godmother warned. The two teenagers quickly stopped their small spat, but the red-haired girl still tightened her pen.
"This is Audrey," Ben said, while gesturing to his girlfriend.
"Princess Audrey. His girlfriend. Right, Bennyboo?" She said, standing on her toes, and trying to give him an eskimo kiss. Ben smiled and giggled like a schoolboy. Antoinette looked up with a blank look, and saw the boy across from her. White hair with white and black clothing. He looked slightly startled, but quickly realized she was simply showing him her annoyance with the couple. He grinned at her, and Antoinette winked at him. The boy turned slightly pink on the cheeks.
"And this is Antoinette," Ben said, reaching an arm out and giving her a side hug. She smiled slightly. The four new students looked at the pretty pink princess, waiting for her to give Antoinette's title.
"No title?" The boy with white and black hair asked. Audrey smiled viciously.
"Oh! Her title, well it's such a funny story. Her mother-"
"My mother relinquished her title, due to a family dispute. I have no title, unless you count keeping the paparazzi in line," Antoinette said with a joking tone at the end. She began shuffling with her papers once more.
"Ben, Audrey, and Antoinette are going to show you all around, and I'll see you tomorrow. The doors of wisdom are never shut, but the library hours are from 8:00 to 11:00, and as you may have heard, I have a little thing about curfews," Fairy Godmother said with a smile. She, along with most of the school, walked away. Ben approached the group and shook Mal's hand.
"It is so, so, so good to finally me-" Antoinette could see Ben pause slightly, Mal raising an eyebrow at him. Shaking himself, he continued, "-meet you all. This is a momentous occasion."
Ben shook Evie's hand with little incident. Antoinette stood in front of Mal.
"Mal, it seems I don't have a copy of your birth certificate, you wouldn't by chance have one with you?"
"No," Mal said with a tight smile. Nodding, Antoinette made a note.
He moved onto the youngest boy, checking her records Antoinette quickly realized he was Cruella De Vil's son. She moved down to the second girl.
"Evie, can you come to my room later? I seem to have a bit of confusion regarding your grades?" Antoinette asked patiently. The girl nodded with a confused look.
"Is that chocolate?" Ben asked as he licked the sweet off his thumb. He continued his greeting.
"Carlos. It seems there was a bit of trouble with your schedule, I'm always open to helping you figure out which class you'd like to choose, but you'll have to go to Fairy Godmother to finalize the schedule," Antoinette mentioned. Carlos nodded in understanding, his cheeks still a little pink as he refused to meet her eyes. She smiled sweetly at him.
"As the day our two peoples begin to he-heal," Ben stuttered. Antoinette heard a thump, and could only assume a punch had been used in between the two boys. Antoinette flipped to the last page.
"And, let's see, Jay? I don't seem to have any issue with your records, but please be aware that-" she looked up then, but wasn't expecting such soft brown eyes to be looking at her. Even with clouds covering the Isle, it seemed the boy, who appeared to be two years her senior, had been kissed by the sun. He was handsome, that much was easy to tell.
"Ant? Antoinette?" A hand came down on her shoulder, spooking her. She jumped slightly out of her stupor.
"Are you okay?" Ben asked with concern laced in his tone. She nodded.
"Yeah, totally. I, um, just lost my train of thought was all," she said. An unconvincing smile on her face. It was the future king's turn to nod, but he held a suspicious look. Smiling once more, she turned to the boy who had distracted her.
"As I was saying, please understand thievary is not tolerated here, so try to refrain from doing so," she said. Something caught her attention over his shoulder. She turned to look over at Ben.
"Benjamin, I'm feeling unwell. I'm going to go lay down," Antoinette stated. She placed her clipboard behind her back, and with both hands on it she walked away.
"Um, okay. Wasn't expecting that," Evie said, surprised from Antoinette's sudden change of demeanor.
"Oh, give it one second," Ben replied. "As I was saying I am so happy that our people can begin to heal from this process-"
A loud scream caught their attention. Turning the group saw Antoinette talking to a much older man who had obviously been startled.
"Camera. Please. Or I will email your employer and tell them that one of their employees is willingly trespassing on private property and invading the privacy of the future king," Antoinette said, holding out her hand.
"You wouldn't!" He cried, protectively cradling his camera. She raised an eyebrow.
"You stupid bi-!"
"Hey, watch it!" Antoinette replied. He handed her his camera with a grunt and stalked off.
"Honestly, don't you think you should get bodyguards?" Audrey asked Ben. Ben shook his head.
"I think Ant handles it pretty well." The girl in question began walking back to the group.
"Now before I was interrupted, I'm so so happy to finally meet you and for our people to heal."
"Or the day that you showed four peoples where the bathrooms are," Mal said, annoyed with having heard the statement three times. Antoinette began flipping through the pictures on the camera.
"A little bit over the top?" He asked.
"A little more than a little bit," She giggled back.
"Told you it was," Antoinette said, looking through the images. Ben shot her an annoyed look, before turning back to Mal.
"Well, so much for my first impression," He said, a grin easily crossing his face.
"Hey! You're Maleficent's daughter, aren't you?"
"Audrey, please stop," Antoinette tried to interject, however, her pleading fell on deaf ears.
"Yeah you know what? I totally do not blame you for your mother trying to kill my parents and stuff. Oh, my mom's Aurora. Sleeping-"
"Beauty! Yeah, I've heard the name. You know, and I totally do not blame your grandparents for inviting everyone in the whole world buy my mother to their stupid christening."
"Water under the bridge!"
"Totes!" Mal replied, both sharing a fake laugh. Antoinette rolled her eyes.
