You Think You're Uncomfortable Now, You Just Wait, Blaine Anderson
Just stay calm, don't hit him. Just stay calm, don't hit him. Just stay calm, don't -
"I'm going to be starting my senior year of college next fall. I'm majoring in dance at Julliard." I saw Kurt's eyes go wide and he immediately perked up.
"You go to Julliard? Well, what are you doing in Ohio?" Kurt practically breathed. This Ryan guy is really starting to piss me off. And not just because Kurt's so obviously taken with him. It's because he's so damn hard to dislike! He's just so freaking bubbly!
"Well, I'm on break. I'm starring in a musical in the summers that tours around the country. So, we stopped in Columbus and I decided to take a ride to Lima." Ryan shot Kurt a smile and I practically watched him melt. That's it.
I slammed my hands down on the table and said, "So, Kurt, we oughta head out." But Kurt merely waved his hand dismissively at me and their conversation continued.
"Why would you stop in Lima? I mean, it's probably the blandest town in America." Kurt mumbled something else incoherent about "ignorance included" and Ryan cocked his head in curiosity.
"Well, so far it's been really fun. Lots of flash mobs everywhere." He chuckled and I glared. He didn't seem to notice, however. "So, what year are you guys going into next year?"
"Um, twelfth?" Kurt said, followed by one of his adorable giggle-chuckles following close behind.
I was expecting (and hoping) that Ryan would be taken aback by our young age, mumble something, and waltz off, but instead his blue eyes seemed to go someplace else and he sighed. "I remember my senior year. We put on this insane musical all about the seniors, and it was awesome." He put his chin in his hand and sighed again.
Kurt smiled an almost devilish smile, and, like they'd been friends for years, jabbed him playfully in the side and sing-songed, "Who'd ya take to prom?" He immediately snapped out of his little trance and came back to earth, coughing awkwardly.
"Um, this girl Kelsie. She was cool, but we're more like friends. Actually, way more like friends…" he trailed off and looked at us like he was expecting us to hit him or go "ewww!"
Kurt looked at him sympathetically and simply said, "Pity date?" in an understanding tone.
Ryan chuckled and said, "Uh, my sister kind of set me up with her in a really messed-up way. It's a long story." Kurt shrugged and gestured for him to continue anyway. "Ok, but it's going to sound really nuts. So, I was telling you about the senior year musical? Well, Kelsie was the composer, and Sharpay - that's my sister - knew that she always gave our friends Troy and Gabriella the best songs, so she wanted me to take her to prom so Sharpay'd get those songs." Kurt raised an eyebrow and this time Ryan shrugged. "Yeah, I don't know."
Alright, I decided. If I'm going to make my presence known, I might as well put my dapper mask to good use, right? "Are you guys still friends?"
Ryan looked at me for, like, the third time in the last hour and replied kind of awkwardly, "She was kind of pissed at me for a while after high school because I told her I didn't want a…serious relationship."
An awkward silence settled over the table until Ryan jumped in again with, "So, how long have you two been friends?"
I coughed and said, "Uh, actually, we've been friends since the beginning of our junior year, but we started dating around half-way through the school year."
The blonde-haired boy looked at me, all bubbly-ness gone, and said quietly, "Wish I was that honest at that age."
Second awkward silence. Ok, so maybe Ryan isn't that bad -
"Well, Blaine, you're certainly one lucky guy." Kurt immediately turned pink and I raised my eyebrow, an ability I wasn't aware I possessed. Did he just call my boyfriend hot? And is he now winking at my boyfriend?
Kurt saw my mouth opening and immediately jumped in with, "Well! It's been terrific meeting you, Ryan, and we should definitely keep in touch."
Ryan nodded and grinned. "That sounds great!" he bubbled, and before I could object they were swapping numbers.
As we were driving away, I was still steaming. Kurt took in my expression and said, "Blaine, c'mon. He's, like, twenty."
"Technically he should be around twenty-one," I replied through clenched teeth, and he rolled his eyes from the passenger seat.
"You don't seriously think I'm going to cheat on you with someone that much older than us? Blaine, what happened to trusting your boyfriend?"
I sighed. This is not how I want this conversation to be going. "Kurt, I do trust you. I just - I guess I'm kind of the jealous type."
"Well, you have nothing to worry about. I love you, Blaine. You. Ok?" Slowly, I nodded, and he launched into a discussion about how Ryan's life was like "a miniature version of what I want to do with my life."
I trust Kurt. I do. But somehow the conversation we just had isn't making me any more comfortable with the situation.
I'm working out what happens next. This is basically just filler. I'm thinking Kurt and Ryan start hanging out constantly without Blaine knowing, and then Blaine like goes to Kurt's house and Ryan is there on the couch, like, watching Project Runway. :D
Until next time!
